In this video i explore one of the most famous ships in the star citizen universe. Drakes interplanetary Kraken. This capital ship is classified as a light carrier and able to carry a respectful fighter wing. It has numerous functions and features that allow it to truly be a versatile and multirole vessel. Plenty of onboard fire power and the ability to launch fighters is certainly something that many organisations and citizens will want in there fleet. There is after all only one KRAKEN!

I got a kraken for my husband because he loves carriers and I got myself a Banu Merchantmen. I’m hoping there’s going to be a way at some point that our ships can do some insane teamwork like possibly using the merchantmen to resupply the kraken so it can stay out longer 😁
Awesome im jealous! I think the merchant man would make a excellent kraken supply ship. I'm sure there is plenty of team work to be had between those ships..!
This is cute. I like the BMM as an org support ship, as you can stock your shops with common components, armor, and weapons and then sell them at cost to org mates, so they don't have to go back to a station to rearm. I think they work well together.
Use the bmm to sell high tier goods while the kraken defends it OR, use the BMM for your premium goods and use the privateer to sell your your more common items right next to it.
so when you inevitably divorce him, do you only take 1 ship? or all of them?
This just made me think of something. Since the Kraken doesn't have Escape pods, then one internal hangar can be dedicated to an escape ship. Perhaps a Cutlass Steel would be ideal for that, if it fits.

9 turrets and one pilot is already a 10 men crew thats needed ,add the fighters wich could be single seaters or multicrew and you have room for at least 18 crew , they said in a Q&A that extra bunks will be available .

It's crazy it's only 30 longer then a Banu Merchantman. It's going to be interesting how effective the base line capital ships like the kraken, Polaris and Merchantman will be when fighting the top tier ships

I'm sure they will, but more than likely I would guess that cig are waiting to have a few more systems in game first. Because stanton would be crazy with kraken and alike running riot.
My 1st thought is to use it with a mining team. So example an Orion with necessary support. Perhaps the Kraken and run the ORE back and forth. Looking forward to trying it out to see what works.

They have gone away from the civilian/military/stealth/industry/performance according to what John Crewe said during some Q&A. So you should be able to equip all type of components. It might change again of course.
Not what I got from what he said.. What I got from it, is that they changed the focus from having industry, civilian, military etc grade components. But you are limited to how high tier you can use, and in what mix depending on your ship type. So if tier 10 is the highest you cant use this in a XS ship type, due to size and requirements to cooling/power f.ex. And you cant max all components because of requirements to cooling, power, computer..

They felt it didn't stop the min-maxing and it limited choices. The names of the categories will still remain.
@@doodlePimp Yeah I watched that, and yes I remember it a bit wrong. But they only answerd half the question. That the restriction of a Civilian ship cant equip Military Component. That is going away, as it is a artificial limitaion. But Military, industrial Civilian components will have different upsides and downsides. But they didnt answer if a ship can equip any component. And I dont think you will be able to equip a RSI Aquila with a rare Esperian Cooler component you found in the verse. That might be limited to Espserian ships, or MISC/Banu because they use tech from Alien species already. And you still got S/M/L components, so a XS ship cant use a Large shield.
I bought mine during IAE 2950. Will be my orgs flagship once she is released. Can't wait to see her launch my orgs fighters and working-class ships can also use it to ferry other players and their ships in dangerous areas. Thanks for the wonderful content on the Kraken

I own two Krakens and one Kraken Privateer. They’re collecting dust in my web hangar lol.
For a hologram model it sure is extremely detailed. Im sure this behemoth will have 80+ week production schedule when it goes into it.
I got a couple of Krakens. They are a logistics enabler. Just like the Idris, but you have medium ships in there... like a Tali, MSR, etc. if you have a large fleet it can help moving ships larger distances
I own the Kraken and Privateer for the exact reason you mentioned. I see the kraken resupplying ships and the privateer rearming crew for a planetside attack and a source of income to purchase fuel, ammo, weapons, and armor. I would like to dock them side-by-side.

I never thought of a Carrack with a Paint Job, it would be pretty cool to see them with Org Liveries, red and blue themes with white stripes and patterns
I would put the privateer modules on it and hover over Jumptown selling fuel, repairs, guns, meds, etc. for people that want to conquor jumptown or just need a refuel to get back to a certain station at Crusader

I mean just imagine with the docking caller have three together having a small deep space city traveling the universe together all working together as one. Like that would be dope lol
CIG just said they are planning to have resource management in the game next year which is a huge step toward capital ships.
I can't imagine needing one of these early on in game.. As you start to acquire more and more stuff and pals in game though..
In game goal for a reason this one, not essential but by god it is cool and will be the first if not only super capitol ships I will buy in game (nice end goal).. Not that fussed about the idris and the javalin 🤷♂️
I would prefer to add some refining facilities to this ship rather than the markets (cousin crows)..
Glad to get one on wave 1 at this year's IAE. It was my hardest 10 seconds I ever had ^^ so much stress an sweat and tears :) but it was worth it!

I have a privateer, always figured I would use it as an autopilot mobile shopping mall until it's needed elsewhere and used as a assault carrier for hire. But, does anything ever turn out the way you hope it does? lol. I wish every year they would load up the model like they did for whatever it was on Loreville so you can see it versus seeing it as the hologram.
I got one at this year's IAE2951 my hope is to get to use it next year. My guess is that is possibly gets released soon after the Pyro system comes online.
Would love to see some PDCs as part of its defensive capabilities (as long as that keeps it balanced)

Hate to tell you, but CIG confirmed the Kraken is not under development. So I'm guessing 2 years + before it goes live. First version you will see will be the pirate version, without interior, much like the Idris we currently have in the PU as UEE or in the harlington gang missions.
It’s not in active development. But we don’t know what state it’s in? There’s also allot of unanounced ships being worked on. They could have been doing this on the back burner the last couple years… it may even be almost complete there just not releasing it yet… nobody knows.

hopefully you could fit 2 Redeemers on pad 5 and 6, and 2 Ares in Bay 1 and 2, that would make a very dangerous org
I’d likely never own one, but I certainly would want to be friends with someone who does. I have a Corsair and a caterpillar and that’s big enough for me and those ships could support this capital. Since it seems the Corsair will fit on the medium pads at least you’ll be able to operate off a Kraken.
The Kraken is certainly the most versatile capital ship, perhaps not as much as the endeavor. But using this to carry whatever ships your org uses would be adaptable to any org.
This is a great ship to buy together as a guild that would be so cool !! Small home base for guildy's !

A great use for this not mentioned is you could also make a decent amount of money ferrying players and their ships between dangerous jump points like pyro.

Haha this is a Beast of a ship...I do see a much larger crew needed when it becomes a reality. So far all the big boys have grown in size and scope from Concepcion. Cant wait to see it

Honestly the big ships are in a odd situation in that all the announced ones are carriers. We really need a large battleship or cruiser, cause unless the carriers are already set up they could get wiped by a squad of Polaris
the only problem I face (specifically me) is that the capital ships require a massive ammount of crew which i dont have that many friends (only 1 at most). I own a kraken and privateer but im probably gonna use the privateer to get the Idris. Theoretically my fleet would have 2 capital ships: kraken (for general support / utility, acting as the aircraft carrier) and the idris (as the main firepower and muscle with a few extra fighters) with a few support ships like Polaris, Perseus and others. But then again, im not part of any Org (dont like them too much, too much formality) and i dont have the people to crew these big fleets. I’d probably be running one of the 2 capital ships (probably the kraken). Lmk your thoughts
I own two attack carriers, the second one went through :) this is a RRR powerhouse and a last line of defence good escort for the cargo and mining ships. While the Idris has more of attack role
Nice video! Light carrier?! I can't wait to see the heavy carrier. If you're in an org at any time flying this, you would need to have escort fighters orbiting at all times especially if it was planet side. You know there are going to be people looking to catch this thing with it's pants down just to say they did it.

they actually had the heavy carrier- the Bengal- in game during fleet week. Thing was effing MASSIVE, dwarfed the Javelin and Idris escorts it had

With ship like this, I hope the game will have as many star system as Elite Dangerous, and that the "bubble of habited planet with space ports" is what we're starting with, I want to colonize where no one ever went, settle somewhere someone never will think of going, etc!
The Kraken is my “in-game goal” I may break down and scoop one off one of my friends that has been thinking of selling it. But am trying to have a reason to play or something to play towards. But I would use it as a flying base to go from area to area to pirate and loot and drop off at Kraken and repeat. It would take a while to load up that 3500SCU with tons of armor and guns, rare items, etc…. Then fly back to UAE territory and sell.
It's cool and all and I'm excited to see it in-game eventually but there's just absolutely no need for it right now in the 'verse. Currently we only have Stanton and there are so many stations and cities to land at that a Kraken would just sit there with nothing to do. Once we get more systems in the verse, particularly system that are a long way away from any kind of civilization, that's when the Kraken will start to shine.
Then again, we just got our FOURTH exploration ship announced and in white-box so what-the-fuck do I know?!
The Kraken can carry 8 Aries Heavy fighters on the top and 1 Buc on the inside and all without clipping
Will be epic to see this released but not neccesary for the game yet. The release of the Liberator is easier to release with the Pyro system, to allow us to transport ships and vehicels until the game is closer to done and they can deliver ships like the Kraken, Endevour, Hull D/E, Genesis
I hope the Dragonfly bay can be configured for Anvil Pisces C8R, make for great rescue recovery.
That they use "max crew" is such a misnomer. It makes it sound like you cant have more than 10 people. It really should be "recommended crew" or something like that.

@@Spaceman-PIN it's something about the Polaris that reminds me of submarine gameplay Hit and run. The Perseus reminds me of the little guy standing up to the big guy with a knife in a phone booth to Big ships.

Way late to the party, but IMO the Kraken might not be so bad in atmo because in the brilliant design of the ship, all the landing pads have a dual purpose as wings. You can see this in the holoviewer. Taking off from a planet might require the Kraken to fly in atmo circumnavigating the planet, rising up and increasing speed as you gain altitude, not just pointing the nose up and taking off or VTOL straight up.
Does CIG offer a payment plan ? Or a rent to own for $10 bucks a month

If I could afford a Kraken, I'd use it as a mobile support and repair ship.
You pay a 10% convenience fee over cost of refuel, repair, re-arm, medical, food, respawn point/lodging, etc...
Of course, if I had a Kraken, I'd likely be using my RAFT to run resupply for it, more than I'd actually be ON it. 🤷♂️
I will most certainly load the flight decks with tanks and ballistas for some serious broadsiding. Its a pirate ship after all.

The tech is the same as space station tech. There not going to release it as a 100% complete with ai’s and fuel hoses physically plugging on. It will refuel/repair/re-arm just like a space station pad. And when the tech comes, it will get a rework/polish.
Does it have medical bay? and what lvl? this is a main answer to name it mobile base

The ships that have escape pods waste so much space on them. They aren’t even usable and when they are usable, no one will use them… I am glad they will be using that space for something useful.

You forget you have hangar space for Ships also on board this bad boy, so you could stash fighters in the hangers an park ships on landing pads. Also shields do no good Vs Torpedo's or Missiles they are not energy weapons that is why its best to run solid mass weapons and some Energy. So the thing that protects you from those would be Armor only and I don't see many ships taking many size 10 torps to go BOOOOM

@@Spaceman-PIN See I agree there with escape pods the places they are positioned makes very little sense, you would have thought CIG would have went with something like Star Trek Pods where they are some in every area of the ship and they stack inside the tubes like bullets so first person launch's out and then so on and so on.

What are the running-cost for fuel? A 890J to refill, cost around 60k aUEC and the Kraken? 90k? Or 120k aUEC or even more than that? Did someone have info? Kraken(270m) is the biggest ship what can land on a Planet. So the burn of hydrogen-fuel during fly, land and takeoff on a Planet will be insane!

I think the game would need to support more concurrent players at once to really take advantage of a ship like this. If they have 50 max players in one instance a Kraken fully manned with 10 people and then outfitted with multiple fighters onboard would be like half the available player slots for an instance. Like how would two kraken go at it if fully manned and supported? Either way, such a badass vessel.
Server meshing and more systems are required before cig even consider releasing this ship.

i have both Idris P and Kraken in my fleet. Couldn't get the Javelin as its an F5 fest which i failed and got unlucky with. Basically no availability. But im Happy with my purchases

It feels weird how they're doing the crewing for ships in the game. This ship is far larger than the destroyer I deployed on, and we had a crew of almost 400. Yet this thing only needs 10. I know that the game won't be simulating all the personnel or jobs needed to actually run a ship of this size, but 10 seems very small.
I think I would be hiring more players personally or even npc's to sit in turrets ( if not bladed) i was surprised. I would think a crew of at least 20 would be far more efficient. Only one way to find out i guess lol. Time will tell
i will own this ship this is the #1 dream ship of mine but i wont own it for a while after game goes live unless i can CCU to it from my polaris....

I would buy 2 krakens 1 military 1 privateer I would use the privateer as mining carrier and supply ship and the military kraken to be used as protection and security

Will the Kraken suffer the Drake durability Tax? I love Drake, I just don't like how after a few patches of release, the ships go into the toilet.

your welcome to fly mine when shes in game. We also disagree on teh best view from the ship. you said bridge, I say the main turret, overlooking the ram. you also get that sense of power when you have a pair of size 8's and can issue orders like, "Set collision course. Engauge at flank speed. All hands, abandon ship!" While fire at the shields above a Idris's bridge and laugh like a mad man...
If this game becomes fully physicalized to the point where it is like real life, imagine being able to mount a size 10 Idris railgun underneath the ram

Well ships are a huge part of there funding which enables them to develop new technologies. Once server meshing is implemented vulkan will be implemented. Once this happens optimization can begin.
Kraken goodship but not for me I don't have one and don't plan on getting one it's not going to work for the play style I went do but if I was to have one I would probably use it as like a mobile transfer hub for example if I was using or selling my services to a Odin has smaller ships that are collecting the pots and then sending them over to the Kraken which is then transfer it over to a processor and then processes the material to better quality and then it on to a cargo ships and then they either sell the refined materials or use it for whatever other game mechanic state may or may not add
"everyone loves the cutlass" yeah, nah... I think the cutlass is shite to be honest. Most hated in the game personally.
The kraken looks amazing tho. Gonna be fantastic to come across one in game.

don't buy the kraken with real money buy the Orion and you should in theory be able to buy just about any ship you want in game i keep struggling with the fomo but its a drake ship it shouldnt be too hard to be able to buy one in game i imagine if it can be obtained by pirates that it shouldnt be rep locked the bmm however is said to be hard to get in game due to it being banu so i would advise buying this ship with cash as well if you are wanting the ship
