Bought a manual tensioner and it will be here tomorrow. Kicking myself because I didn't see your video before I watched one saying I had to pull the tensioner out to reset it. Thanks man! Looks like I'm making a trip to harbor freight for some new tools for this project.
thanks sir worked like a charm 👍 didnt take everything off tho just lifted the tank and used a 8mm 6 in extension on a 1/4 ratchet 15 mins done thanks again
great video..worked on my zx6r 2005. Click isn't loud enough to hear when loosening the bolt if it's not dead silence, so it's better to use your finger to unscrew until you feel something clicking. Also you can do this without take de air filter out, just raise the tank and hold it up
Dude I just bought an MT07 at cycles 128 two weeks ago and came across your video because of the ticking noise. Brand New MT07. Brought it back to Cycles 128 and they said this was normal for Yamaha. It's driving me crazy in the low rpms because it is so loud. I thought it was a cam chain tensioner
I don't know how often you check your messages or comments or whatever but I was wondering I'm doing the same thing to mine and I was wondering do you tighten it do you turn the middle bolt or you just do the
Found extremely helpful this very helpful. I have a zzr600 and my cct was wicked easy to get to and i had been looking for a video on how to adjust it. I am also a resident of the dirty Q. Haha
I have a 1990 ZX10 engine was just rebuilt couple of years ago I'm getting ticking sound with cold start only. I'm guessing this might resolve my ticking I'm going to try this when I get a moment if I do it in the garage and it's super quiet will I hear the click just by ear or feel the click? I'm concerned I may not hear the click wondering if a mechanic stethoscope would be better?
This works for my 2017 Kawasaki z900. I had the exact same sound. Also, this was to blame for my high end rpm inconsistency. I'd be full throttle and once I get toward the top it would just get drunk but now it's just buttery smooth. Saved me some money!
Wow !! I had the same problem up to after watching this video. But y did u pull half the bike apart. I have 07 took 10 mins and never had to pull nothing off .
@chris moltisanti hey i just started to get this same sound on my gixxer600 2007 was it an easy job ? and how long did it take you ? what was the process please help thanks
Nice video. Thanks for the valuable information. I’ll try it out on my bike. I have some questions: Is the click loud enough to hear and “feel” when loosening the two bolts? Also, if I happen to loosen the two bolts a little too far out, will it cause any problems?
My bike don’t sound like that but my bike sounded like the chain came off & rattled up , but I pulled right over & see nothing & bike was fine , not sure what’s going on
it keeps tension on the cam chain so it doesn't slip gear teeth. the chain attaches the cam to the Crankshaft at a 2:1 ratio. the tensioner keeps that chain tight.
Good video bro I think you pretty much 100% on everything but I had found a video where they say to take the top bolt out then the bottom bolt in till you hear the click I'm about to do this now but with the information iv got plus ur video which was really helpful I'm gonna get this done. But I don't think u were wrong about anything u just didn't explain NOT to take the bottom bolt out then the top bc that would be wrong but u did say to pull them out at the same time witch is ok tho u are supposed to take the top bolt out then slowly take the bottom one in till you hear the click from what information I have received off the internet now I could be wrong but I don't know haha I'm about to do this and just wanted to inform u good video was very helpful and thanks ill let u know on how this goes thanks.
You lose the one from above to almost the maximum and after u lose the bolt from under till you hear the click this is the method wich worked for me , mine still has a little noise i think i would go for another click to se if is any difference , gl
ZJ Motovlogs Thanks man,my 05 is ticking pretty bad and stutters on take off, thinking maybe this is the issue.and gonna clean the throttle bodies while i have them off.I wouldnt of even tried to attempt this if it wasnt for your video man, keep up the good work.
Hey bro is this work on Ninja zx6r 2011 coz after I've done oil change this thick sound come out on the right side of the engine and I'm worried but I'm not sure if that sound come from cct.
Can I ask? How big was the gap between the face of the cct and the cyl head before you heard a click? I tried this today and it got to about a 3mm gap with no click. Can I chance going further out? Cheers
Thanks buddy. If when further out I don't get a click, I suppose I'll have to assume it's stuck / seized and get a new one. Thanks for replying so fast mate.
@@garywells6109 it's possible that the cam tensioner unit is so tight in the head that the cam tensioner itself isn't backing out of head to get the click
hey i had a question, i jumped time on my bike using the ape manual chain tensioner, i now have just installed a new used head on my bike that also came with an oem tensioner, will it click like it used to before i put the manual one in?
Solo Moto here is a video for an 2011 zx10 ruclips.net/video/Df61Gg4NIwU/видео.html he does it a little different but I would do the two smaller bolts until you hear one click
Cool clip dude! Don't worry about what other people say. I think I may have the "kawa click" would love if you could check out my clip and let me know if you think the same. First bike and first project so any advice is greatly appreciated.
I’m not going to say you don’t know what your doing and if you don’t I don’t care. You got your bike apart hey that’s what’s important and thanks for the video. Butt... but. A socket with an elbow and a really long extension? A swivel? Seams a little suspicious😂😂 lol. But also isn’t the tensioner designed from the factory to have a specific amount of force against the guide/chain? Just saying. I’m honestly not being a d***. I know as the chain wears the tensioner slides to push the chain more, and it’s a one way latch. Once it slides out it won’t slide back in that’s the clicking sound. On my bike (2008 gsx650f) if I pull in the clutch my “rattling” noises go away. This is not a d*** head comment. I just question everything I don’t even have a Kawasaki.
In your case sound is coming from the clutch not a cct that's why sound goes away when you use it. And on kawasaki bikes that is a common problem with cct. I own 1998 zx6r with 70k km on the clock and i start hearing noises like that too and cct failures are common some people on forums have said that they have changed cct every 5k miles so on kawasaki it's like an oil change xd

great video on adjusting the cam tensioner just fixed the infamous Kawasaki tick on my 06 zx6r
I need to do this for my 06 (should have when it was all taken apart over the winter). The click is real haha. Good video as always bro.
Will this work on a 2020 mt07?
One of the most informative videos on this subject! I did an easy fix on my klx 250. Thank you very very much!
thanks for the vid homie :)
does this work on yamahas aswell
do u just screew both of them, 1 at a time until u hear/feel the click and screw it back in fully?
Thank You
My bike making mild whinning noise. What could be the reason ?

zx6r 2007 sounds like this hahaha. Will do on the weekend with new oil and coolant!
Found extremely helpful this very helpful. I have a zzr600 and my cct was wicked easy to get to and i had been looking for a video on how to adjust it. I am also a resident of the dirty Q. Haha
Hey bro so I don't need to buy a manual cct, I could adjust the automatic cct. I have a zzr too
The question is...WHY THE CCT IS NOT PUSHING ENOUGH AND U NEED TO DO IT ?
is that cam chain or lifter noise?
I have a 1990 ZX10 engine was just rebuilt couple of years ago I'm getting ticking sound with cold start only. Stay off the helium 😂 great vid helped me adjust my cam chain on my z1000 😁👊🏻
Nice video, and clean bike bro!
Thanks for the vid. Have the same issue with my 05
Will this work on my 06 zx14? It only happens on start up and goes away...
i went 3 clicks by accident. how do i loosen it if i need to lol. i dont hear any noise but curious just incase it ends up being too tight
The 07 has a different engine and frame, the tensioner is not buried like it is on the 05/06.
I want to confirm that this did work on a 2007 gsxr600. Worked for a short while but noise came back. Think I need to try again with another click.
@chris moltisanti hey i just started to get this same sound on my gixxer600 2007 was it an easy job ? and how long did it take you ? what was the process please help thanks
What if you did all that and it still is ticking?
What all did you take off that was not in video
Nice video. Thanks for the valuable information. I’ll try it out on my bike.
I have some questions:
Is the click loud enough to hear and “feel” when loosening the two bolts?
Also, if I happen to loosen the two bolts a little too far out, will it cause any problems?
holy shit i'm watching this in a room of the homewood suites bout to fix my gsxr in the parking lot
My bike don’t sound like that but my bike sounded like the chain came off & rattled up , but I pulled right over & see nothing & bike was fine , not sure what’s going on
What is a cam chain tensioner?
it keeps tension on the cam chain so it doesn't slip gear teeth. the chain attaches the cam to the Crankshaft at a 2:1 ratio. the tensioner keeps that chain tight.
Thanks for that, appreciated 👍

So were you right? Was your method able to work?

I bet her neighbors secretly hate her
Hi ! I'm from Portugal i've a Fazer 600 with the same problem hope i can fix it now! i'll Thank's!
Did it work? Same problem on a 93 fzr 600
Will there be a click for both bolts-so 2 clicks or one for both?
ZJ Motovlogs Thanks man,my 05 is ticking pretty bad and stutters on take off, thinking maybe this is the issue.and gonna clean the throttle bodies while i have them off.I wouldnt of even tried to attempt this if it wasnt for your video man, keep up the good work.
What's the link to his video.
Hey bro is this work on Ninja zx6r 2011 coz after I've done oil change this thick sound come out on the right side of the engine and I'm worried but I'm not sure if that sound come from cct.
Couldn't you just replace the spring inside the tensioner?🤔
Garry T correct sir, if you get no click I would replace it. Take it out and inspect it first but none the less replace it🍻
@@garywells6109 it's possible that the cam tensioner unit is so tight in the head that the cam tensioner itself isn't backing out of head to get the click
ZJ Motovlogs do we need to hear a click for each outside bolt ? So two outside bolts = two clicks , then tighten back up?
Good job man!!! 👍🏾
hey i had a question, i jumped time on my bike using the ape manual chain tensioner, i now have just installed a new used head on my bike that also came with an oem tensioner, will it click like it used to before i put the manual one in?
the manual caused it to jump time because the two mounting bolts self loosened
Parker Nishida you mean you didn't torque them correctly or use blue loctite? 😂😂
Save yourselves time skip to 5.59
Nice kawasaki goldwing 👌
will this work for a zx10r?
Solo Moto here is a video for an 2011 zx10 ruclips.net/video/Df61Gg4NIwU/видео.html he does it a little different but I would do the two smaller bolts until you hear one click
thank you very much mami chula.
Phoenix!!!! i fucking love that bike ZJ. Im glad she is back in the fleet she's a bad bitch👍👍👍
Just took the tick away from my 03 r6 while yamaha said it would run me 500$ or more cause they can’t adjust the one that I just adjusted.....
Can you show us how you can adjust the cam tensioner on the s1000r?Don't you have a rattle problem there??
Just used this to adjust my vfr cct, noise gone away
So just the two small bolts ?
I tried but it didn’t click
ZJ Motovlogs it just fully unbolted out with no clicks
Btw clean bike bro
good job but you can do that without remove nothing .
Cool clip dude! Don't worry about what other people say. I think I may have the "kawa click" would love if you could check out my clip and let me know if you think the same. First bike and first project so any advice is greatly appreciated.
helllo !!! im from italy i have and sv650s 2001 whit the same problem, now i fix my bike thank you very much !!!!!
just so gsxr owners know... you can't access the cam chain tensioner on a 2003 gsxr 1000 by simply removing the right fairing.. i tried and failed :(
It's a manual tensioner 😂
Some guy doesnt know what he is doing so goes on facebook to talk smack about someone who does. The age we live in my friend...
