- Steve Lawrence has been at the top of his craft since 1957. Here, at age 40, he sings a big-band version of Cole Porter's "In the Still of the Night" on "The Carol Burnett Show" [S9E17] which aired January 10, 1976.
He makes singing seem effortless! His silken tenor voice and comic acting chops made him a favorite guest star of the variety shows of this era. Sadly, we no longer have great vocalists or musical arrangements like this in this new millennium.
.
One of my good friends who is a Sound Supervisor for the BBC requested me to do the [DES] Digitally Extracted STEREO audio conversion of this incredible performance. I was very happy to do so!
Technical information:
I used a combination of audio softwares: iZotope RX-7, SPLEETER, moises.ai and PhonicMind.com to isolate the Vocal, Accompaniment, Drums & Bass into 4 separate tracks. [Whichever stem or mixdown of same-stems sounded the best, that’s what I used]. Adobe Audition was used for Dynamic Range restoration, Delay, Reverb, EQ and final mixdown.
Written by Cole Porter and published in 1937 for the MGM film "Rosalie"
Enjoy my MONO-to-STEREO conversion of this classic TV performance of Steve Lawrence singing "In the Still of the Night" with a superb arrangement by Nelson Riddle.
