  • Today's video is from Innerleithen in the beautiful Scottish Borders. It's located about an hours drive south of Edinburgh and about a ten minute drive westwards from Peebles. If you're making a day out of it, it's well worth exploring after visiting Peebles.
In this video, I give you a quick tour around some of the best of Innerleithen's cafe's, shops and walks in and around the area. It's perhaps best known for St Ronan's Well, one of the first spas in Scotland, which has a lovely little visitor centre, garden and car park - well worth a visit.
With a growing reputation as a great base for mountain biking, the town is increasingly popular with bikers and there are a number of really good cycling shops and cafes serving hungry & thirsty cyclists. Nearby Glentress, with its world class mountain-biking trails, Osprey Centre and cafe/shop is also a must for keen cyclists & walkers (located just outside Innerleithen).
If you have time, take a walk over the beautiful stone bridge (B709) and walk up Pirn Hill in the Caberston Forest, to admire the amazing views of Pen Lee and the Tweed Valley. You might also like to have a stroll along the banks of the beautiful River Tweed, which runs past the town, or play a round of golf at Innerleithen Golf Course. Near the golf course is the lovely Leithen Water which has a great wee Fish ladder where you can see the occasional Salmon leaping! - October & November being the best months to see them leaping. Innerleithen is a great wee town, with so much to enjoy, and well worth a visit.

Hi Anne, thanks so much for taking the time to watch & for your very kind words. I deeply appreciate it. My family live in Peebles & Innerleithen now, so I’m extremely lucky to be able to spend lots of time there in the forests & rivers enjoying the beautiful scenery & wildlife. I love to capture smaller details which we’d often just walk by, it’s nice to just stop awhile and admire beautiful things. Hope you’re well and having a good weekend. Thanks as always for watching. Best wishes, David 🙂

Hi Romana & Ewan, so glad you liked Innerleithen, my parents retired there about fifteen years ago and it’s been a wonderful place for them to live. My sister lives in Peebles, so I’m lucky enough to be down there most weeks. The drive along the granite road is one of the Borders best kept secrets. It’s only half n’hour from Edinburgh but you could easily be in the Highlands. It’s really lovely. Hope you’re both ok and feeling a little better. Take good care of yourselves and catch up soon 🙂

Hi David, beautiful village, beautiful countryside. You are truly blessed to do the work you do and live in Scotland. Even though I'm here in the States, my heart is always in Scotland. I always looks forward to your videos. Thank you so much. Take care and be well.

Thanks Mike, I really do feel very blessed to live here. As a youngster I took it all for granted, but I fall in love with the country more and more with every passing year, despite approaching 50! The Scottish Borders are very overlooked by visitors rushing up to the Highlands and I can never really figure out why. With that in mind I hope to do a few videos from the Borders this summer, just so people can see how beautiful it is and just how much there is to see and do. Thanks for watching Mike, best wishes, David 🙂

A lovely video David 👍 It brought back some lovely memories. One of the major problems with the area is so many beautiful spots you need to be a passenger rather than a driver!!. Keep safe and well. C

Hi Clive, hope you’re well and having a good weekend. You’re absolutely right about the Borders. There’s so much to discover and I really hope to spend a lot more time there filming and discovering more of its treasures. I have family in Peebles & Innerleithen so I know them pretty well, but I really hope to enjoy uncovering other great Border towns soon. Thanks again for watching & your support. Best wishes, David

Thanks for your time and effort to show us this relaxing video David. Innerleithen is a lovely place and the area around. In the graveyard there, there are old memorial stones with insignia on telling you what the persons occupation was, including corsairs or pirates

Hi Harry, thanks for watching, so glad you enjoyed it. My mum & dad live by the old cemetery on the Leithen Road and it has a lot of atmosphere and interesting graves as you say. It’s a very lovely wee place with a surprising amount to do in and around. I fish a secret wee lochan high in the hills which is extremely beautiful and peaceful. Hope to feature more of the Borders this summer Harry, which I hope you’ll enjoy too. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Best wishes, David 🙂

Really interested to watch this having just visited Traquair House a couple of weeks ago. Don't think I've been to Innerleithen and need to explore this part of the Borders a bit more. Thanks for the tip and another beautiful video!

Thanks so much Richard, really glad you enjoyed it. My family live in Peebles & Innerleithen so I’m lucky to visit most weeks. Traquair is absolutely stunning. Catherine is the loveliest person and very kind. The Easter egg hunt in the maze at Easter is a great thing for kids. Planning to do a video soon, just hoping this dull weather improves a bit! Hope you’re having a good week and thanks for all your support. Best wishes, David

More lovely scenes in Scotland . Thanks David , really nice job . Noticed there was a Tweed River there.
In Invercargill NZ we have a Tweed St . Named by settlers to remember the old country.

Thanks for watching Maxine, really glad you enjoyed it. How interesting you have a Tweed Street. I’ve sadly never been to NZ, but I have spent a lot of time in Australia and always been fascinated by all the Scottish names. Thanks so much for watching and your support. It’s greatly appreciated. Hope to have a local nature video out next week and some more videos from the Borders soon. All the best, David
