Awesome. So many folk are trying to achieve benchrest accuracy or what a traditional single shot (built right) can achieve with a seasoned wind reader.... truth is, magazine fed rifles are built with compromise to have reliability in having to feed. Dedicated benchrest actions like the 2500x can utilize tighter chambers and more jam. Usually can't extract a live round and barrels with tighter bore which aid in accuracy but have significant cold bore shift or need warming up Realistically, what are the targets your aiming at. You nailed it show casing it here.
Good information all around. Thank you for what you do! In New Hampshire we do a monthly Aspirin Shoot at Chester Rod and Gun Club which requires cutting edge accuracy, sub minute 10 shot capability, to be in the running to win the match. To date, nobody has shot a perfect score. Competitors have Vudoos, Rim-Xs, Bergaras, CZs, Remington 40Xs, Winchester 52s, Anschutz, Custom Guns and a host of others to vie for top honors. Shooting is done off benches with bags and bipods supporting the guns. The course of fire starts at 50 yards with 10 aspirin (.4") glued to a cardboard backer. One shot per aspirin is allowed. The second stage is shot at 100 yards on 10 TUMS tablets using the smaller sized TUMS tablets (.6") glued to a cardboard backer. One shot is allowed per tablet. The third stage is shot at 150 yards on steel plates descending in size from 8" to 3" for 5 shots followed by 5 shots on a 3" target. Each target must be hit in sequence in order to continue to the next target. Our range is in somewhat of a bowl which makes reading the wind challenging to say the least. While stage one and stage two have been cleaned multiple times by a few of the top shooters, the TUMS have been our nemesis to date with only 9 hits recorded twice in the three years that the match has been held. It's a fun match open to the public where the shooters can bring any .22 Rim Fire Rifle and see how they stack up with the rest in the accuracy department. It's a friendly bunch that is quick to help those that need it and make everybody feel at home so they will get the bug and come join us on a regular basis. Love to have you come join us sometime! Keep up the Good work! George Harris
Great video. I shoot my first NRL22 this weekend, and it’s easy to get consumed with finding the perfect ammo. I spent a couple of weeks comparing ammo performance, and getting hung up over a 0.1” difference in group size at 50 yards. In the end, that will matter not compared to my technique and ability to account for wind. Thanks for allowing me to get off of that merry go round!
Valid point: don’t spend extra money to hit a nearby big barn. However; if a little barn far away needs hitting, accuracy can’t hurt. I’m a benchrest shooter. I need consistent 0.6 MOA accuracy to hit a 1/8” dot at 50 yards without wind. On windy days, I’ve tried shooting 2nd tier ammo thinking that the wind was a bigger variable than the ammo. It hasn’t worked well for me when my competitors were shooting great ammo.
Bracketing the wind for the max and min of wind speed and direction when finding that day's zero is the key from my experience. We have shot on days when wind direction typically can shift around 90 - 120 degrees (clock face between 3 and 7 for example) with changes in speed (gusting) around 5 to 10 miles an hour at 25 yards, and where you can have the opposite conditions down range past 100 yards. High Desert winds of El Paso are tough, very humbling.
Great video, Josh. Btw, I noticed your finger forward grip style when shooting. Have you tried the Chad Heckler forward vertical grip? He sells them at 5x5 Precision.
Hey Josh, I really enjoy your content. I’m wanting to get into 22lr target shooting. Was thinking about the CZ 457 MTR or AT-ONE. Which would you prefer. They are both out of stock at my local shop but I’m on notification. The AT-ONE is the cheaper of the two. I figured the cheek riser and adjustable length of pull would be better than the MTR. What’s your thoughts? And thanks in advance.
.2 mil groups at 150 is sub-MOA we are happy with that for random match ammo. That will win any PRS/NRL match if the shooter executes accordingly! Time is better spent on positional practice rather than lot testing for the PRS/NRL discipline.
L3i, I parked my rimx with a solid benchmark barrel since I started shooting your barrel. I am very very happy with its performance. Keep up the good work!

Looking to get into the .22 rimfire world. Any recommendations would be appreciated I'm not into building a gun would like one that's finished out. I'm used to airguns like the Fx line. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. 1" groups @ 100yrds would be my goal
I recently got a Bergara BMR for fundamentals training and I was think the same thing. why is everyone wanting such small groups? I got some CCi Blazzer and Winchester Target and Game ammo that I am going to shoot. I hope its not too bad of ammo choices.
It's a little interesting that "practical accuracy" and it's a big scope, a chassi worth more than my whole .22LR, precision barrel shooting at a range over 100 yards. I shoot at waterfowl coming swimming when I hunt and would never shoot at more than 50-75 meters/yards, close too 100 meters/yards and up I take the .222Rem. But I would like a .22WMR but they are really hard to get here in Finland. Someone has decided that .17HMR is the way to go even if I would like the JSP ammo for hunting...
@PursuitofAccuracy Yes, I understand that. It was a failed contemplation regarding the different "connections" a phrase can make. I should have kept it to myself, sorry for that 😔...
There is a big difference pinpoint accuracy and just hitting a given target at a given distance. One you care where you hit it. The other you only care that you hit it. Is that the point you are making?
You said .3” at 50 yards, or .7” to less than 1” at 100 yards was adequate accuracy for 22lr shooting sports like NRL22 or PRS. That is still very skilled marksmanship with wind calls and is not your average 22lr rifle either. Sub 1MOA shooting is exceptional and requires a lot of skill and good equipment. I am short of both. I think the target size for NRL22 caters to the very skilled shooter with very capable gear. They say you can bring your Grampa’s gun to an NRL22 match but not really and only if you like shooting dirt and grass. One match director said target size has gotten smaller as skill and equipment has risen. Was he kidding?
@@aireydc nrl22 monthly matches have 2-3 moa size targets typically. At 100 you can expect to shoot at 2.5-3" targets. The nrl22x matches and prs matches will have smaller targets.
Its unfortunately necessary if your chasing down the absolute best ammo for your rifle. But most good ammo is more than adequate for most shooting disciplines outside of bench rest.

You are spot on. Different tools built for different purposes. NRL/PRS shooters aiming for benchrest accuracy are going to be disappointed every time.
I gave it a fair shot but the L3i barrel is just not as good as the Lilja (it's really not even close)
