    If anyone wanted to know about the pilot.
    A 64-year-old pilot who lost consciousness in mid-air, leaving his passengers with no flight experience to land the plane, suffered a tear in his heart's main artery, according to the doctor who brought him into emergency surgery at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.
    Kenneth Allen of Lake Wales was released from the hospital Monday, six days after the emergency landing at Palm Beach International Airport. The grandfather of six will recover locally for about three weeks before returning home.

      As someone who has dealt with numerous life threatening situations, I remember the first time was pure panic. I could not get my shit together. Luckily, no one got hurt but they definitely could have. Now, as long as you can stay calm, you have the max control you can. It gives you the best chance. You kind of just have to accept that this is happening and you're dealing with it whether you want to or not.

    • @castillejan
      @castillejan 11 месяцев назад +11

      @@kevinsun3244 You realize that "they" has been used as a singular pronoun for hundreds of years right? Hell, "you" used to be a plural pronoun that changed into a singular pronoun. This recent nonsense with people being upset over pronouns is incredibly silly. Language evolves and changes, and having gender neutral singular pronouns is super useful. For instance, if you wanted to discuss something someone said but didn't want to provide any identifying information that might reveal who they were. See? Singular they.
      If your issue stems from thinking "the whole pronoun thing is stupid" on a political level, I can probably help shine some light on that as well. The reality is that pretty much no one actually cares very much about 'their pronouns', but normalizing including them in an introduction helps protect certain vulnerable community members from having to out themselves in order to be referred to by the correct pronouns. Additionally, even as a straight white dude I've personally found it incredibly useful on a professional level, such as when I'm involved in an email conversation with people I've never met in person, and who's names don't give a clear indication of gender. It's very useful for avoiding embarrassing mistakes.

    Really guys, trust me, when you "played" on Flight Simulator some tens of hours when you were a young teen, that can have *a lot* of incidence of what can happen if you're suddenly put in that kind of situations ! You won't be the best pilot ever, but you'll certainly not panic when it will happen, and it's half of the problem that dissapears !
    I've been a pilot and instructor in the French Navy. I used to take some rides with recreational planes when off duty. The amount of scared people when they were totally unaware of anything vs. when they had enjoyed at least a bit of PC flight sims/games is just extremely different ^^.
    So if you're scared on a plane, just play sim games. Many times it helps to be quieter, because "now you know" what happens (at least to a certain extent).

    After watching several aircraft emergency videos, I’m amazed at how often controllers make pilots change frequencies.
    I’m a retired firefighter and we were trained to leave a firefighter having an emergency on the frequency and switch everyone else.
    When shtf, even if well trained, cognitive ability is reduced and it’s easy to foul up simple tasks. The pilots, especially in this case, have their hands full already.

    • @andrewfidel2220
      @andrewfidel2220 Год назад +55

      The problem is the various radios are often fixed frequency and power, so they can't stay on say the approach frequency and talk at 50 or 100 miles out. Sometimes they can't use a more powerful transmitter with the same frequency because they'd stomp all over a local channel at a nearby airport thus causing a safety issue. So unfortunately when you've got a plane moving at high speed sometimes it's just not possible to keep them on the same frequency at an arbitrary range.

      I used to play "hangman" with my homeschooled kids. We used the International Alphabet in order for them to learn the letters.
      It's easy for kids to learn stuff like that and it stays with them for a lifetime.
      (They also memorized the first 25 elements, and how to diagram them (solar system diagram).)
      I had flash cards for those things and they got excited when we were going to learn a new one. :)

      @@leslieschott754 different times put different weight on different topics. School classes older than mine also learned astronomy but it was never part of my curriculum. Instead we had power point presentations weekly and learned excel and basically how to use a computer. Neither generation is better than the other for what was taught to them at school, it is simply guided by the needs of the labour market around them.
      Somebody once had to learn how to spin wool and use a typewriter, that doesn't make them better than those who learned how to sew by machine and use a computer keyboard.

    Why do americans say 'in rowt' for the French en route?
    Pronounced...'on root'.
    Do you say rowt 66..or root 66?

      it actually varies by region/dialect whether we say root or rowt. it is pronounced both ways here. i hear “en root/rowt” not “in” or “on” most of the time, and that just comes down to most people not knowing how french words are meant to be pronounced. americans who don’t speak french read it phonetically going by english rules, that’s it. plenty of brits and aussies and other english speakers pronounce it incorrectly too
