- June 22, 2015. We brought home a Bernese Mountain Dog and named him Sam. A friendly and gentle giant that would enrich our lives.
June 23, 2022, exactly seven years later, we had to put him to sleep and let him go. The vet had discovered several tumors in his body. We did not want him to suffer. Our world fell down, we cried our heart out when we carried him to his grave in our garden.
For several months I’ve been working on a tribute album with music of John Prine, one of my musical heroes. One of his musical heroes was Blaze Foley, who wrote this beautiful song ‘If I Could Only Fly’. I’d like to dedicate this cover to Sam. The lyrics went well together with some of the many pics and videos that make us smile and cry every time we watch them.
‘Sam Stone’ is the working title of the new album. This song was a smashing hit in the seventies for John Prine. we had Sam’s last picture was printer on a piece of slate.
The worst part of having a pet is saying goodby.😢💔

I love that song. Losing a fur baby is the loss of love and loyalty that only a dog can give. It is a tragic loss that most people can't understand. Blessings to you in your time of grief.

I lost my German Shepherd Tobi about almost two months. I understand your grief. There’s not a day that I don’t miss him and I still tear up for him. Cancer is the worst, but we did the right thing for not letting them suffer. Only thing we can hold onto is when our time is up, hopefully we can meet our furry buddies again.

RIP Sam. I lost mt sweetest baby girl 6 months ago today and I still cry everyday. I have never been more heartbroken over anything in my entire life. Her brother Bo is right behind her and it just hurts to think he will be gone in a matter of months and I am going to be crushed all over again. 17 yo pugs and they have been my heart, my life, my children. Goodbye Mandy, my sweet baby I will never be whole or the same again. I feel like I've been riding the bus of life and had to stop to let off my babies at the next stop, as they look at me while the bus pulls away with me still on it. It's hard to breath and I can't seem to cry enough.

They are so very precious. We just don’t understand why God doesn’t allow them to live longer. They become so much a part of our family. My ShihTzu was 18, crossed the rainbow bridge 5years ago. I still miss her today.

This is a wonderful video. Sam was a lucky boy to have such a loving family. I just lost my Berner, Harley in July so this caused a cascade of tears but also brought back many happy memories

Tomorrow will one week that I had to let my Kaliskablue go to heaven.. We were together for 14 years.. Her whole life by my side! She picked me that day so long ago! She was 3 1/12 weeks old when she crawled out from under the old couch where she had been born.. And from that day on she was my shadow and my protector. She was half Rottweiler and Queensland Blue Heeler and looked both of her breeds! She was my best friend and the only loyal one I ever had! Cancer slowly ate at her for over a year.. Her sister had been taken as well! It was us girl's until the end.. Kaylijo left us on December 28th 2020 and she was 13 when me and Kiki took her to the hospital.. I held them both in my arms untill they breathed their last breaths! I had Kaylijo cremated and I am now waiting for that same process for Kaliskablue! Her body was shutting down and I could see death hovering in her eye's.. But she wasn't ready to leave me in her mind and in her heart! She fought to live and her doctor had to give her a second shot! My heart broke twice last week as She lay in my arm's dying! That day the 26th of September 2022 is the hardest day I have ever had to live through! I feel as if I have betrayed her.. But I know she's in heaven with her sister and Jesus and I know she forgave me for what she had to endure! She is no longer in pain as she also had sever arthritis in her spine and all her joints.. She was having stokes and seizures and bleeding from her nose from the cancer going to her brain! Doc put her on Vitamin-K to stop the bleeds and 2 different pain meds.. But cancer is aggressive and it was time! I miss my girl's.. But Kiki.. Well She was the best.. I am sad from grief and Will always love her far above the rest! My heart is heavy today and tomorrow will be worse because it will just be a week that she finally slipped away! My only happy thoughts are in knowing she and her sister are up there waiting for me when my time comes to take my walk over that Rainbow Bridge! I'm 68 and my heart is getting worse and I know that We will be together in the so far off future.. So I know the sadness you are feeling too having to say goodbye to your best friend.. Who also up there waiting for you! Rest in peaceful bliss and run forever young.. All you fur babies in heaven.. Kaylijo.. Kaliskablue.. I love you! October 3rd,2022...💔💔🐾🐾🐾🐾👣❤❤💯🌹🌹
I have never heard of a dog breed called a Kaliskablue before and i don't think there is a breed called that i think you got the name of the breed wrong.
She is called a Blueweiler.
Wow, fourteen glorious years, she was so blessed bc you are the best mummy, by her side, night & day, days after days.....my queen also went to glory in Aug 2022, after literally spending her entire life 10 yrs side by side, next to me!

@laurenloukinen5425 She didn't get the breed wrong, that was the dogs name. She specifically says she was a cross between a rottweiler and a blue heeler.
Reminds me of my old dog who loved the sea but now he can run free in the sky with god but I know I will see him again in about 100 years

I lost Mr Mew one of my cats when he had kidney troubles and such. He was eight and a half years old. Letting go was hard. At least he ain't suffering anymore.
I'm sorry for your loss. I know how it feels. I lost my Black Labrador last summer due to kidney failure. I have him 7 almost 8 years before the vet had to uthenise him.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm watching dog tributes most nights since my big girl died from cancer suddenly, just before Christmas in 2023. She was the best. The love of my life. It feels like I lost a limb. Very disorienting and wildly devastating... and yet... she is still here. She is Everywhere now. I feel her and I feel peace! She did not suffer for long... My heart goes out to all of you dog people. It's a huge, huge loss when they go. ❤🩹

This video is a testament to the love and loyalty that you both gave to each other in those seven years together. Sam was a happy and loved boy. Everything in this video reminds me of my sweet Husky girl, Xena. We had to make the same decision for her as well. Cancer tumors cut her life short. It's been 4 months, and I am still feeling her loss. 😢 We were so blessed 🙌 to be her parents for 10 years. She can only live in our hearts ❤❤forever until we meet again. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have everyone's ashes, they and Mom and Dad will be put in a Biodegradable Urn and then in the Ocean for eternity.
I am so sorry for your loss. I understand the pain 100%!! They are so much more than pets, they are family and that makes them loved ones too. There are no words that can be spoken or actions that can be taken to stop the pain, only time. We NEVER get “over it” as some people have said. We will never forget or get over their loss, we only learn to live with the pain and emptiness as time goes on. In time, you will smile when thinking of the fond memories and funny antics. I hope you can find comfort in knowing that death is NOT the end, it's the beginning for both human and animals!! I know this because the bible tells us ALL innocent creatures go to be with our creator God the Father upon death and that includes the animals! Only humans have sinned, all animals are innocent. Human's have a choice but not animals, they live and function on instinct. Just as people receive new bodies the animals do as well. Their bodies will be those that were before the fall of creation. When Adam and Eve ate of the fruit, everything fell from perfection. Birds even began singing in a different key! The breath of life that God breathed into Adam and Eve is the same breath of life that God breathed into the animals, except God breathed into the animals first! Genesis 2:19-25 - God created animals first and Adam named every living creature or beasts of the field! The animals were important to God. When God breathed a spirit into Adam’s body, Adam became nephesh: “living being” or “soul”. The same Hebrew word “nephesh” is used for both animals and people! Genesis 1:30; 7:15, 22 Genesis 2:7 that animals and man have the same breath of life!
The bible even speaks of a child placing his/her hand into the hole of an Asp (deadly snake). The animals also spoke before the fall of creation! Remember the serpent spoke in the Garden of Eden Numbers 22:28 - The donkey spoke through God, the donkey’s tongue was loosened. The donkey could also see the angel, this shows intelligence. Are the animals closer to God than man? Yes, for they are totally innocent and know no sin! They also were a substitute until the birth of Jesus. In the book of Enoch, which is one of the lost books of the bible, Enoch speaks of the animals testifying against man at the great white throne judgment! Those who are born-again and have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will spend eternity with our loved ones who went first and that includes the animals!
Romans 8:21: That the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Luke 12:7 - God provides for animals just as for man. He knows when a sparrow falls, none are forgotten before God. Joel 1:20 - The animals cry unto God just as mankind does. Jesus loves the animals! Imagine our love on earth. Jesus has perfect love (agape love), after all he suffered and died an agonizing death on the cross for us. His love for the animals and his creation is perfect and as humans we cannot begin to understand. Proverbs 12:10 - The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but even the kindness of godless men is cruel”. Prayers for all those left behind.
Animals aren’t created in God’s image nor are they equal to humans, however we are their caretakers. Nevertheless, there is biblical evidence animals have non-human souls. Nephesh and psyche are translated “soul” for mankind, but these are also used with animals. God made certain the animals were saved from the flood, and we know from scripture they most certainly are going to be on the refreshed, new earth. When Moses and the Hebrews left Egypt, their animals went too. We need to see that animals and man share something special - we are both living beings. Something one must remember is that Adam and the animals lived happily in the Garden before the fall and will again. Don't forget, when God cursed the 2 people, the animals and whole earth fell under that same curse! That is why some animals now have a “less than loving” nature. Once we’re enjoying the new earth, they will be as they were in the Garden of Eden!
Proverbs 12:12 (NLT) - We are to be stewards of animals. We are caretakers, but they belong to God, not us. For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. Every bird of the mountains and all animals of the field belong to me Psalm 50:10-11, Psalm 148:10-13, Revelation 4:8-9; 5:13 Animals also praise God. We fail to zero in on scripture that says the “living creatures” that cry out “holy, holy, holy” are animals dwelling in God’s presence. Our Lord Jesus Christ in Revelation 21:5 proclaims “I am making all things new”. Revelation 5:13 - Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praised and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
Romans 8 - Creation itself will be free from its bondage, the whole creation has been groaning. Man sinned, animals did not but they were still brought down by human sin. That is a terrible truth of sin; it effects both the innocent and guilty. Romans 8:21 - Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
I am so thankful my mother and I were able to do this study, she died shortly after. Being human, we are selfish and want to keep our loved ones with us forever. As long as I/we are on earth, I will always miss her and wish she had not left us. I can't wish her back here out of heaven, that would be the ultimate act of selfishness!! I would not want her to suffer further because now, she is free of all her pain and is in paradise with Jesus (Luke 23:43). My mother was born-again and so am I, so I will see her again. Most of all we will spend eternity in heaven with Jesus. I look forward to that day.
