@@whenimmanicimgodly4228by "halo suits" I assume you mean Spartan armor and no wearing armor doesn't make you a cyborg, the only Spartan that's a cyborg in the games would be kat from reach.
@@whenimmanicimgodly4228 lol no it doesn't "a fictional or hypothetical person whose physical abilities are extended beyond normal human limitations by mechanical elements built into the body." Notice in the definition of cyborg it says "built into the body" Spartan armor isn't built into the body. Edit to add: by your logic ODST and marines are also cyborgs since their "armor is enhanced by technology" such as HUDs.
If Steve Downes ever stop being chief, I either want chief go out with a bang or saving the galaxy again and trying get away from a explosion making it in the last second, disappearing for another hero journey when he's needed.
There's this guy on RUclips who does instructional videos (how to do taxes, learning the ABCs, etc) in Master Chief's voice, which almost sounds like Downes' voice.
Nobody would have been able to identify or bond with an all-out emotionless cyborg. Even though John is a stoic man-of-few-words, he has a much deeper aspect of humanity to him than he would have otherwise.
Weirdly enough the original voice sounds somewhat similar to the voice of Agent York from Red Vs Blue, voiced by Sean Duggan, but a bit more robotic. Odd little comparison.
Originally They were planning to have the MC be a cyborg and based on some of the dialog in the original game it's not too crazy to believe that this was planned until well into development. "Hey, it's the new Mark 5" Which yes that's the armor but it's implied you are the mark 5. "The chief has gone rampant" and a few others that aren't coming to mind right now.
I saw how it was develop the first hello and what I Know about the fist one is that in change a lot during its development between 1998 to 2001 , I think that is more likely that they put that voice because that's what they had to show their demo , it's very disting the level of performance between the voice acting of the marines and at the time their new hero , Master chief
Honestly I think the Spartans should have voice modulators that amplifiy their voices because realisticlly you should be able to understand a thing chief or any of the Spartans are saying. Like Space marines in 40K they speak through voice modulators and it adds a lot to their presence as super soldiers built to kill
What do you mean "they *were* going to make him sound more like a machine, than a man"? Sir Halo sounds like an illegitimate son of Optimus Prime and Solid Snake. He is the machine. Killing machine
Ai wouldn’t have been able to do this. It’s was only a few years ago AI could somewhat sound like a regular person. This was clearly someone that they just put a heavy edit.
The voice is actually not bad. It sounds like a young Chief though. Maybe as a teen or young adult. But Downes for sure sounds better as a mature, battle-hardened Chief
This is why i think they should retire Chief at some point. I love Steve Downes, but I dont want them to try and keep using his voice after he retires IRL. Jerome is my pick for Chief's Successor.
Isn’t that what Jerome sounds like… Sadly the golden age of “badasses” voices in games and movies are gone. Exchanged with younger actors studios can get a 10 picture deal with and motion capture. Motion capture is cool, yet all we get are boring characters. In terms of developers using their likeness. There’s a reason why God of War scenes are epic = Because nobody looks like Kratos, so they hired a huge guy with a grizzly voice. Same applies for that guy who cosplays like Geralt. His voice is high. Compared to the actual voice actor.
I do somewhat agree with the Tiktoker. I don't like how people who self-diagnosed & use it as a trend, they don't know the struggles those on spectrum go through.
Nah that's not Master Chief, that's John Halo
Master Cheeks
@@Angry_Peanut_52master cheeze
The John halo thing still kills me 😂
Masta cheif
Jimmy Rings.
They do call him a cyborg in the first game, so I think this was definitely the intent originally
All the characters in halo suits are technically cyborgs. Cyborgs would have a normal human voice though, not a weird half robot voice.
Came here to comment this

I didn’t realize how close my childhood was from being destroyed
It would've been very different
They 110% made the right choice. Steve Downes isn’t just Master Chief, he’s Halo itself. Man is a legend.
No 117%
Rhulk what are you doing here?
Bro sound like the pull up warning on airplanes
Bro you are hilarious I swear that’s the first thing I thought of too like from star Fox or something 🤣🤣
Uh no, that voice is called “Bitching Betty” and it’s nothing like the original Master Chief’s voice😂
This is why I think no one could do Chief proper justice if Steve Downes retires. The voice of Chief is just... perfect.

@@mercenarydelta7351I'm pretty sure that's a ai generated voice but yeah I get you :D
The VA for Foward Unto Dawn Chief actually did pretty well.
It isn't really something he would retire from. It's a few days of studio time tops. Maybe just one. Massive paycheck for just a little work.
Sounds like Siri’s little brother
Hey Siri, I need a weapon.
I think he kinda sounds like either case or tars from interstellar
@@yeetus4868 agreed, I'm waiting for him to say "Cooper, this is no time for caution"
I kinda like the voice, wouldn't be as iconic though. Sounds like Carter.
Felt the exact same way.
Wouldn't mind having it as a AI
Sounds like Carter? What are you smoking?
@@dopiestthyme3365 Not exactly identical, but it does sound a bit like him, with a robotic effect placed overtop.
The robotic voice does sound pretty cool

"chief, mind telling me what are you doing?"
"sir, im booking a flight for a lobster"
Sounds like robocop
That'd be cool to have this voice available in halo infinite for our spartan
I love how it has Red vs Blue head bob...
That ain’t master chief that’s mustard beef
The voice is alright, just sounds like Master Chief when he was green :)
Nah, place holder voice
Dude i actually remember that. Thats crazy thanks for bringing me back and making me feel old
Pretty sure this was a placeholder
It absolutely is but that's not discussion or content worthy so they gotta make sounds like this was a finalized thing instead.
I’m pretty confident I read somewhere that this voice was always supposed to be a placeholder. There’s no “we almost ended up with this”
That old E3 trailer was still fire af tho, especially the part where cheif came over the hill and charged at that elite
It’s entirely possible they didn’t have a voice actor yet so one of the developers just did the lines to have something to show to the audience.
Yeah that's the most posible cause
That was the prototype Micro$oft Sam voice. Good thing they scrapped it, along with the fly-like head movements.
He sounds like a 40-60 year old serial killer with his current voice
Chief was originally gonna be a robot
This was a temp voice, they were originally going to have Jeff Steitzer voice Chief. But we ultimately ended up with Steve.
They definitely used the original voice as inspiration for the command voice in Halo Wars
I used to love watching that E3 video, it was so badass
He sounds like a robotic sandman from og modern warfare 3
I think this was at the point where it was narratively unclear (read: not decided yet) whether or not Chief was a robot
Sounds like a developer at Bungie took his phone and recorded a few lines for them
Weirdly enough the original voice sounds somewhat similar to the voice of Agent York from Red Vs Blue, voiced by Sean Duggan, but a bit more robotic. Odd little comparison.
They went from making him sound more machine than man to grappling with the question of whether he’s more machine than man
At least we can pretend that they wanted to hide his voice.
Whatever they would have decided to do would have ended up iconic either way
Brought back memories of red vs blue a little bit
Sounds like a voice you’d hear in rvb from a character that’s only in for like a season max
Originally They were planning to have the MC be a cyborg and based on some of the dialog in the original game it's not too crazy to believe that this was planned until well into development. They did leave the cyborg lines in the game since this is clearly early Master Chief
I kinda like the cyborg feel, especially since he was supposed to be one. While I do prefer the final voice, I wouldn't mind the other one.
Bruh that definitely sounds like Nolan North, even with the filter on I can still hear him.
Whatever voice actor did the original voice sounded like he couldnt be paid to give any amounts of fucks when recording
Chief was originally intended to be a cyborg. Plus, I'm fairly certain this was just a placeholder in order to show off the concept.
They should totally turn this voice into a A.I in infinite would be sick lol

Back when Marathon influence was still strong with Halo
Really sounds and feels like an old machinima voice, looks like it too with the head movements
The old voice sounded like Tom from Toonami but in his teens
Before he said it I was like.. that’s Daniel Radcliffe 😂
Nah he's Robot Chief.💀
They were trying to go for more cyborg in the first game
Halo: OCP
I'd buy THAT for a dollar!
Bet you 343 woulda been like “this voice will make us sales”

same with combines in half life, but the whole point of master chief having a human voice is to remind you that he’s human under the armor.
Oh man it would have been such a mistake You can imagine how they feel they've dodged a bullet
What do you mean "they *were* going to make him sound more like a machine, than a man"? Sir Halo sounds like an illegitimate son of Optimus Prime and Solid Snake. He is the machine. Killing machine
The reason his voice was so robotic was because they originally intended for him to be a combat robot or cyborg
Roosterteeth almost nailed OG Master Chief in red vs blue
Thank God cause this wouldve been similar to the original vs. final Shrek.
Can't believe they almost used ai voicelines in Halo. The internet would have been so mad.
Ai wouldn’t have been able to do this. It’s was only a few years ago AI could somewhat sound like a regular person.
This was clearly someone that they just put a heavy edit.
I've always wondered how he would sound if voiced by Gilbert Gottfried 🤔
They didn’t Sonic Masterchief. They Masterchiefed Sonic.
That’s not even close to what we could even be close to deserving
After seeing that, damn right the right choice has been made.
That's not master chief, that's basic soldier 💀
The voice is actually not bad. It sounds like a young Chief though. Maybe as a teen or young adult. But Downes for sure sounds better as a mature, battle-hardened Chief
that's robo carter
Dot and Carter had a baby.
The drop zone in those vocal chords. 😅
Nahh that ain’t Chief that’s Robocop
That's johnny rings. We don't talk about him 🙄

I haven’t seen the video…but that’s rooster teeth red vs blue 😂
voice reminded me of Transformers Animated
The almost voice would have been fine if they ditched the reverb.
The voice is fine (still nothing on Steve Downes) it's the post processing they added that makes it sound bad.
Yo don’t diss my movie there also I think that be John voice over intercoms but w helmet off it be his originally
Why did the dude he was talking sound like Colonel Hoffman from Gear of War
Chief hit puberty
Makes him sound bionic
Its cause he was cyborg in halo one they retconned it in 2 that its a suit not a robo cop gone soldier
We also the iconic ass of Master Checks
He could've been robocop 😂
Sounds like a dollar store mw3 overlord
He was suppose to actully be a robot, i thinks thats why he has a antenna on his suit
Yea Bungie made the right choice in chaning his voice
I was hoping it was Mike Tyson’s voice
Isn’t that what Jerome sounds like…

well he sure sounds a lot more like a john.
Thats not master chief that's Johnathan 58.5. (aka 117 divided by two)
Its not bad but it would probably fit a different Spartan
Heh, I remember those days

It’s not a bad voice honestly, it’s just…not Chief
