@@v9927 - Karajan has probably got a lot more than one performance of the Coriolan Overture. Which one are you talking about. The one on RUclips I've listened to is mediocre, both in sound & interpretation (my opinion).

Personalmente avrei dato maggiore importanza agli ottoni in alcuni punti, soprattutto nel fortissimo finale prima della coda... Cosa che Karajan faceva... Per il resto è un'esecuzione modello!!

Ricardo always looks the part - though the sound does not always match his visual. The continual wide angle shots of the stage are spectacular. If only there was a little more real gusto - Fritz really owns this work.
Agreed. So many better versions including Furtwangler and Carlos Kleiber.
Its a matter of taste, but to me Fritz Reiner uses too many different tempos and accelerandos to sustain the sense of brooding fury and inevitability that I get from Muti. And Reiner's relatively fast tempos mostly obscure the cellos and basses at the closings of the main theme. (I prefer to be able to distinguish the eighth notes in the bass.)

A good one, but Carlos Kleiber's is the best.
Fire that Video Director. Too much footage on Muti. The guy's not making Gold. Let's see the musicians, I don't want to see some guy waving a stick around. Muti's work was done in rehearsal. The Orchestra now knows the tempo. Muti could fall off the stage and the Orchestra could still play, unless there is a fermata ( holding the note). It's "RUclips" I want to see ALL the musicians play.
