It is worth noting the accomplishments of Booker T. Washington for his tenacity in getting TU started. Also, George Washington Carver who was probably the most influential agricultural scientist of the 20th Century. He taught at TU for 47 years. Both men have National Monuments at their birth places. The GWC National Monument in Missouri is wonderful and very interesting. The history of these men is becoming lost, but, I encourage all who read this to learn about them.

I notice in most Tuskegee videos that there is hardly any reference to the University's previous name which was Tuskegee Institute before it became Tuskegee University in the 80tys. Also the high school referenced here is not the one majority of students attend which is Tuskegee University High School off college campus, located in Tuskegee Institute, Alabama.

We went july 3023 and stumbled upon the town. When we drove the other way out toward the freeway, lots of abandoned homes, and some were buried in thick overgrown brush. Very sad to see an old town like that. Im glad theyre taking care of the downtown.

Never thought I'd ever visit the South but I've also gotten more into history as I've gotten older and decided to plan a trip. I want to visit all of these historic cities since I'll be in Mobile next month. I saw that there's a Tuskege airmen museum, so that seems like a must see while I'm there.

That was Jefferson Davis statue. A lot of plantation mansions are around rural communities in Tuskegee. You didn't travel those roads but 3 were on the road where I grew up. The Taylors, Ledbetter's and the Whatley plantations on Old Columbus road.

Just found a Henry .44 civil war era rimfire cartridge within a mile or two from brimer cutoff. The third relic of that era there so far, including a 12” cavalry saddle shield. I can possibly get you access if you’re ever interested. Surface finds btw, and it’s never been detected.

You left out Tuskegee lake and the only real RedWood tree growing in Alabama .
When you turned right and headed towards Auburn , Tuskegee lake was on your right on the way out ,
The RedWood tree was on the apposite side of Tuskegee square .
