There has been improvements to each model year GTR since it came out. So saying that it held it's own after all these years doesn't make sense considering how Nissan made improvements every year.
Brian Rojas While Nissan have been improving it throughout the years, we can't deny it's still an 8 year old platform, and the Jag is new. The current gen 911 (991) has upped the game, the new Turbo S and GT3 can easily surpass the current GTR. Therefore, I can't wait to see what the capabilities of the R36 is in stores.
Tonite Thats true, I heard rumors about the R36 GTR saying that it will have a hybrid set up to boost the HP output. Really looking forward to seeing how its gonna perform. Maybe it could even rival the other hybrid hypercars like the LaFerrari or P1
Tonite I'd say the R36 GTR is still few years away since they just refreshed the R35. In track times the GTR is still faster than the 991 turbo s but the turbo s is more of a GT not a track monster like godzilla.
Brian Rojas True, probably 2017 model year. The 911 turbo was the GTR's benchmark during development. The GTR is suppose to be an all around GT type car as well. Nissan wanted to match the 911T's performance, they achieved it, but Nissan could not tune a chassis/suspension with performance AND comfort like the German's do so well.
That Jag looks like ass and they have always been a girly sports car. Feminine body lines and now they have the same daytime running light shape as a stingray. Poooooo! GTR is aggressive looking and sick as fuuuuuu!
Stingray? The f-type was a concept car since 2003. I own a 2014 gtr, and yes its gruesome and intimidating to other racers, but I will always love jags for their vintage history and their crazy characters :)
IEATPLANETS YESIDO No need to hate.. I've seen people say the same thing about GTR. I guess they're all just opinions, and there are better ways to show your them without offending anybody :)
GT-R owner here too, pre "major" change. I would like to have more comfort such as much reduced ride harshness, interior noises. Other than that, it is a very well engineered track focused road car. If Nissan produces a next generation GT-R, I hope it combines R35's performance with R8 or Carrera turbos' comfort.
the 2016 Jag F Type R will be all wheel drive-will be a very close match up. However, both are extremely quick. The Jag just has the presence and sound that wins me over big time. Jag will tweak the F type over the next couple of years. It's going to be a contender for a long time. For me its between the Jag R or a Carerra 4s. GTR's are cool but just don't have that classy high end refined look I'm wanting. Love the Jag and the Porsche best. Jag best for the money though
That jag is a stunner. The key fob says it all pure class.say to someone on the street that you drive a Nissan and you know the reaction.say you drive a jag and doors open for you.
Car and EVO have done this comparison. On both occasions the turbo S mullered the GTR on both acceleration and track times. The Porsche was also a much nicer environment to be in compared to GTR
robleake Yes Rob you're right. But I want to see how Sutcliffe tries to explain it since he always talks about the GTR like it was God Almighty and nothing can maul it!
Well the race is no longer between gtr and the 911 turbo s, but between the gtr nismo and the 911 turbo s. When the regular gtr goes against the 911 turbo the turbo loses.
+VirusTornado So does the McLaren P1, which will drive circles around the 911 Turbo S. If you compare cars, they have to be in the same approx. price range.

Would be interesting to see this match up take place now with the same Jag R having all wheel drive. GTR may still squeak it out, but it's going to be close on a course.
Autocar, love your channel.. watch every new post you guys upload. That said, lets see more of these type of short, closed track time trials! Brilliant! Simply one of the most entertaining ways you can compare and test two vehicles head to head!
Always a pleasure watching Steve. I still take the Jag because the way it looks, handles and sounds like a 50cal through those pipes. The Nissan will always be a Nissan and with a ride like setting concrete on the open road, it's not for me. Happy days.
Yes GTR is faster and higher potential but I'd take the Type R. Fantastic looking car with great performance. Also, you won't see many out there so you'll stand out a bit.
I don't care how many people say how good the GTR is but the fact is people who drive them are mad people (probably been to a psycho unit at 1 stage and are maybe a gangster). The car is to clinical and unlike Ferrari's, Lamborghini's or Mclaren's, it has a boring non crazy design like a supercar should. The jag on the other hand doesn't need it because it's not meant for that, it's not its character which means it fits in well:) it's great looking and has an optional v6 or v8 and best of all is that it's European and that means it is good quality (not being racist) but everyone knows Japanese stuff is cheap.
damn.... seeing these vids u can definitely see how the Nissan has built an excellent engineered car using computer to overcome the laws of physics, I mean the GTR has the same HP as the Jag, less torque, weights more. But from the vids u definitely notice that the 4wd system is giving it soooo much traction, u dont even notice any big slips from the tires at all. I mean many people including me dont like the idea of using too much computer and technology in modern sports cars, but the fact is that all manufacturers are moving towards this new trend. I mean I used to really appreciate the fact that Porsche still offered manual in some of their top range cars like GT3, but it does seem like ever since GTR came out it changed the way manufacturers approached making supercars. No need to use big V8, V12, no need to use super light and expensive materials, no need to make to look super slim to be aerodynamic. Ive gradually started to pay a lot of respect to the guys making the GTR, especially Kazutoshi Mizuno!
Stephen R well the 4WD system is still controlled by computers, Im not an expert in car technology. But you cant really drift the GTR like you do with other RWD cars like 458, SLS, M6, C63 even if u turn everything off. Im not really that sure, but I think the 4WD system will always be there to detect slip and traction of each wheel up to 10 times/Second no matter if you have turned everything off or not
The GTR has similar AWD system to the Mitsubishi Evo. It can dial more power to front or back and side to side. Where most AWD systems can only send power to the back, the GTR can send power to the front and to the outer wheel that is losing grip. Not many system can do that which is why it weighs so much. I don't think a Jaguar AWD system can beat the GTR because it will weight more but does not have the sophisticated AWD system of the Evo or GTR.
Hats off to Nissan's devoted engineering that has kept expanding the potential and horizons of the GTR. I hope the R36 GTR beats the Jag in terms of not only price and performance, but also looks and sound. Autocar too has done a very lovely job with these amazing comparison footages.
Finally they took a leaf out of the Japanese from Best Motoring using the "Touge" to get a feel of the car's handling. Nice work Autocar. love your videos!
just few disappointments in gt-r and f-type convertible 1. GT-R (2012) 4 months of exploitation: changed oil and gas pumps, front brakes and suspension ball joints. Also renew interior (aesthetic reason) and 9lbs of noise insulation, because the sound from the gearbox sometimes is bloody annoying. The performance wasn't as good as I expected, light forged rims, ecu tuning, armytrix exhaust (no cats) and zero resistance filters improved it significantly. 2. F-type V8 Convertible (2013) almost 3 month of exploitation: faced the brake fade as there's lack of brake system ventilation, engine overheat (typical jaguar) and the rain leaks through the tiny connection above the driver seat (fixed), interior looks well, but once you've mentioned bad stitching and leather "moving" you can't ignore that. Also be ready to stock up on set of tyres as the f-type provokes you a lot and earplugs as hearing the V8 "gargling" in the traffic jam will drive you crazy. Verdict: bmw M6, bentley gt or 911 are the best options.
GT-R wins in performance but i'd still rather take F Type R home. Imagining crusing down the hwy with a sexy lady in passsenger seat or going out to a nice elegant dinner somewhere in a suit. Jaguar fits all that more to me. When you're not driving fast Jaguar probably better to live with
obviously he's a great driver but it seems extremely risky to go flat out like that with no helmet or roll cage and a shitload of trees at the edge of the road
When it says the cars make and model @1:05 Nissan GTR MY14, my guess would be "MY14" stands for: Model Year 2014 or '14. Thats just mu educated guess though. Does anyone else believe something different or have any proof otherwise? I know its sort of pointless information but I'm just curious of what its relevant to. Thnx..
If you do a time trail, obviously the gtr would be quicker, it's a absolutely brilliant car with four wheel drive so grip is an never ending story. But do you do time trails every day? I don't think so. I'd get the Jag every day of the week.
Really amazing how similar those two cars are in price, design and execution. AWD beasts of machines, this is no Lotus Evora, 500+ hp engines. Watching the Jaguar F Type pounce over the road while the Nissan GT-R chases it around in the woods is gold
well, the gtr is the faster and more hi tech car. but the jag is beautiful, fun, luxurios... the gtr just has that sort of cheap car feel to it. if you were to drive to a good restaurant you'd just want to get out of a beautiful jag, not a brutally fast nissan. the gtr is excellent and an engineering masterpiece, but i'd just prefer to see the jag standing in my driveway.
I guess we all have to accept the fact that the GTR is a milestone in automotive history and made other manufacturers go back to drawing boards and calculators like no other car has. I'm sure it will be dethroned by something else in the future, but the punch it delivered will be one to be remembered for many years to come.
I think everybody needs to have a spin in a Nissan GT-R, the acceleration is awesome, you feel it pressing in your whole chest. I'd have it over the Jaguar F-Type R without question.
I bought that Jag from a Jag dealer. Only had three weeks before I saw this video and found it on Top gear (The perfect road trip 2). It was also was a safety car for Donnington race circuit plus a press car and other bits of advertising. The Jag dealer took it back straight away with a full refund as they didn't know about it passed life. I was worried about its resale value when I came to sell it. Did I do the right thing or do you think it would be worth more with all its provenience?
Nice..very nice review, and good driving also. In my opinion, it is just a matter of tastes, both cars are superb... Jaguar has made good progress, and I think this is just the beginning.
What a good honast review, well done the jag is so nice but if you cant use the power then why buy the r version? Im very fortunate to own a GTR & drive it in London & its no more of an issue then any other car & IT always puts a smile on my face
I would go for the F-type, but r the F-type V6S cabrio. I did a test drive in the F-type V6S coupe and just felt in love with looks and the soundtrack. In a coupe you enjoy the noise even more and have the sun and wind in your hair. Can't affort 1 now but I will buy a second hand 1 in 10-15 years. The GTR is a phenomenal car: the speed it can deliver for the price, amazing; but not what I'm looking for. Sat in GTR and didn't like the interior at all. Maybe the speed could have changed my thoughts but didn't have the luckk to enjoy that part yet. What I look for in a car is good looks and fast nice ride, shouldn't be the fastest of the bunch because I'm not a racing driver anyway, I would get cocky and crash it.
BTW: I have to admit I doubted the reliability of jaguar as well, but my father owns a XF for 5 years now. Never had any problems, the Mercedes he had before was constantly broken....
I know I should but the GTR ,its good looking & not to mention faster and better at the corners but if given an option I would buy the jag F type cause it has the best "voice" I have hear in any 6 cylinder car(or any other for that matter). The only other car with such a great noise is the eagle speedster. FYI my childhood car was a Skyline GT
JusticeObligationKindnessEmpathyRespect Totally with you! I reckon the GTR's good epic! Seen one the other week, irl they srsly look AMAZING!.. so wide and powerful. The F-Type was nice when I saw it but not really a stand out as such maybe cause so many Audi, VW, BMW coupés and other Euro bland sports cars here. The GTR really looks like like a Godzilla on the roads. Hard to explain sorry guys.
Wow! 😂 that R35 is just simply the best sport car for the money I mean it does everything right and is one the quickest production vehicles on the the road, I don't know how Nissan does it😃 they just keep getting better and better. Yeah I know I sound crazy! But it's really unbeatable.
Yes is its down to speed and track time and of course the GTR is going to win, but as an all rounder its gotta be the Jag, that V8 sound is spine tingling. Beautiful car
A closer test would be a C7 Corvette vs the F-Type. Though the Corvette is MUCH cheaper than the F-Type it is just as fast and more composed in the corners.
That Jaguar looks fantastic, but I didn't even expected that it will be fast as GT-R. On this type of road, car with engine in front and rear wheel drive don't have any chance compared to AWD...
The driver of this video. You is my new super hero. I like the way you drive and give good car reviews. You don't favor one car more then others. Can you make a video teaching how to drift.
The Jags have come a long way and are really nice looking good cars, but looks like the poorer man's Aston. For me it will always be the GTR that comes out on top. Someone did mention the 911 though. Now that's one car that would top my overall list most days of the year, but it's a different price range. Good review.
For an A to B all weather sprinter it has to be the GTR. True it doesn't have the style or pedigree of the Jag but then it's cheaper AND has four wheel drive, a must for the UK and its shitty weather
I have had Jaguar XKR, Jaguar XJ (new model) and a Nissan GTR R35. The Jags are wonderful, great cars ... but for me (and that is personal) the GTR is the best, greatest car I ever owned. It is Mega, Turbo, Galactic Fantastic! :-) (and also in the rain, in the snow and in the sun ... has 4 good useable places, huge boot ... and a hyperspace button)
First things first, I'm a massive fan of both cars so there's is no way I'm going to say anything negative about either of them. The F-type coupe is also available in AWD, would be pretty interesting to run that against the GTR. Running a RWD against an AWD is pretty unfair, especially if your up against Godzilla :P F-type AWD vs GTR AWD thumbs up if you too would like to see that happen!!!
That Jag really has stolen my heart. One day I will get you F Type Coupe R, one day!
I'll buy you one
I just got 17 R a few weeks back and i love it! Traded in my supercharged C7 and i have no no regrets
That day has come? Already passed 7 years...
Wow, both amazing cars! Can't believe the GTR is still holding it's own after all these years. Can't wait to see the R36 GTR

The crackle of the Jag's exhaust sold me the first time I heard it.. who cares if it's a second or so slower than a GTR, it's a bloody amazing car!
2 seconds over a 35 second lap? no competition at all......
GT-R still kicking heads like it's 2009, but that jaguar is just gorgeous
But no on can deny that a jaguar is the most beautiful of the two for sure. But of course the GT-R will always be a beast.
I love that you guys actually know where to put a camera in a car. The onboard footage is excellent.
Being a GTR owner it's a happy video for me, but DAMN that jag is SEXY.
was never fan of jags until f type R
That Jag looks like ass and they have always been a girly sports car. Feminine body lines and now they have the same daytime running light shape as a stingray. Poooooo! GTR is aggressive looking and sick as fuuuuuu!

The Jag is just GORGEOUS! It's so beautiful that I don't care that Godzilla is faster.
Shut it noob
@@GoodMan-bf1ns no you shut it noob!
Agreed the GTR is a tired old design next to the Jag.
Indeed, it's just like looking at a lizard and a jaguar. :) (...and I am a cat lover:)
Loved the onboard footage ^^
The F-Type looks and sounds infinitely better.
the 2016 Jag F Type R will be all wheel drive-will be a very close match up. However, both are extremely quick. The Jag just has the presence and sound that wins me over big time. Great video. I would still pick the Jaguar over the GTR any day.
Agreed!!!!
So you like slow cars
@specialforce616 i like more how it looks and how it sounds and what people think about me so yes i take the jaguar
Thanks for this video. I was having a hell of a time deciding between these cars and you've given me that last little push I needed to choose GTR.
Jaguar any day over GTR. Much more enjoyable car , happy tail , sound 100x better , looks 10000x better. No question about that.
Is your boyfriend taking you to the hairdressers to get your c*nt bun trimmed up in the Jag?
Pants were shat at 1:52
And for that reason, you have to have the Jag.
Hahha
That jag is a stunner. The key fob says it all pure class.say to someone on the street that you drive a Nissan and you know the reaction.say you drive a jag and doors open for you.
Come on Autocar when are you going to compare the GTR with the 991 Turbo S on that road. It needs to be done!
Car and EVO have done this comparison. On both occasions the turbo S mullered the GTR on both acceleration and track times. The Porsche was also a much nicer environment to be in compared to GTR
robleake For twice the price so it should
robleake Yes Rob you're right.
TheCa007 Isn´t the nismo supposed to be nissans hypercar. If you want a match for that the 918 is your answer.
It's not all only about speed guys, the jaguar is definitely the better looking car in my opinion and the also the better car.
F Type looks + GTR performance = Best car ever.
Enter the all-new 911 Turbo S LMFAO
The price gap between the Jag/GTR & the 911 would be way too big VirusTornado
I know, but the car exists...
+VirusTornado So does the McLaren P1, which will drive circles around the 911 Turbo S.
If you compare cars, they have to be in the same approx. price range.
No no no, sorry, just no! Always take the slower lap time over the awd!

Nice video..
Anyone know the color of that Jaguar. I'm going to buy it.

Very nice review/battle. Keep´em coming please.
Was the GTR's victory ever really in doubt?

No kidding, even the Jaguar knew it was going to lose to the Cheetah.
John Vu cheetah?
Did I stutter? Are you really wanting me to clarify this?
John Vu no one has ever called the GTR a cheetah.

Good comparison. These are the two 100k (US) cars I'd be most apt to buy. That is until the new Z06 comes out...
Yes GTR is faster and higher potential but I'd take the Type R. Fantastic looking car with great performance. Also, you won't see many out there so you'll stand out a bit.
A226044 Ive seen two F-Types in 2 weeks (one red one silver) and have seen one R33 in about two or three plus MONTHS.

Anyone know the tune at the beginning of the video?

it's because metric people do 0-100 kmh. 100 kmh is 62 mph. And metric is generally the dominant unit.

well, the gtr is the faster and more hi tech car. but the jag is beautiful, fun, luxurios... the gtr just has that sort of cheap car feel to it. if you were to drive to a good restaurant you'd just want to get out of a beautiful jag, not a brutally fast nissan. the gtr is excellent and an engineering masterpiece, but i'd just prefer to see the jag standing in my driveway.
Great driving, Mr. Sutcliffe!
ここの評価はいつも信頼出来ますね。レポーターが優れている。Nissan > Jag
Beautiful driving matched by equally beautiful footage and of course the stunning F-Type. Now what was that other car again?
I guess we all have to accept the fact that the GTR is a milestone in automotive history and made other manufacturers go back to drawing boards and calculators like no other car has. I'm sure it will be dethroned by something else in the future, but the punch it delivered will be one to be remembered for many years to come.
But that jag looks and sounds so much better :)
Both great cars :)
which is better looking?
the aston martin vantage or the jaguar f-type ?
I think everybody needs to have a spin in a Nissan GT-R, the acceleration is awesome, you feel it pressing in your whole chest. I'd have it over the Jaguar F-Type R without question.
That the GTR is more than 2 seconds faster over such a short course is amazing.
This is at longcross chertsey test track! Only drove an audi r8 there last week
What year is the jag?
Both cars are amazing , the jaguar have more luxury , the gtr have more smart power
whats that song in the background i hear it all the time
i dont get people why dont like the look of the Gt-R i think it sexy as hell
JusticeObligationKindnessEmpathyRespect Totally with you! I reckon the GTR's good epic! Seen one the other week, irl they srsly look AMAZING!.. so wide and powerful. The F-Type was nice when I saw it but not really a stand out as such maybe cause so many Audi, VW, BMW coupés and other Euro bland sports cars here. The GTR really looks like like a Godzilla on the roads. Hard to explain sorry guys.
intro music please!!!???
Steve, when are you going to come get on Twitter??
Wow! 😂 that R35 is just simply the best sport car for the money I mean it does everything right and is one the quickest production vehicles on the the road, I don't know how Nissan does it😃 they just keep getting better and better. Yeah I know I sound crazy! But it's really unbeatable.
2 of my most favourite sports cars that im most likley to own. great video
Nice fair review as usual !!!
Gtr model year 2014 ?
Yes is its down to speed and track time and of course the GTR is going to win, but as an all rounder its gotta be the Jag, that V8 sound is spine tingling. Beautiful car
Gtr Nismo Vs Porsche 911(991) turbo S , will be a nice comparison.
99% of the viewers cant afford GTR
bellend
so right ....I can't even afford GTI so let go the GTR lol
travis browne and antonio silva could :))
You're an idiot. GTR's are NOT even that expensive. Completely affordable if you have a decent 6 figure job and aren't a dumbass with your money.
RyanSlays yeah right troll..
because every one has a 6 figure salary, and is a car nut.
what was the average salary again ? :)
Why don't more people film cars like this? The speed is visible, it's tangible, it's car filming done right.
Why chose? Take one of each...
A closer test would be a C7 Corvette vs the F-Type. Though the Corvette is MUCH cheaper than the F-Type it is just as fast and more composed in the corners.
9yrs ago I'd pick GTR, now i want the Type R
Good review.
ill take one of each...they're both fantastic
GTR even beat the Jag times with its traction control on and the Jag off. The GTR has always been above the Jaguar and Aston Martins.
Going pretty hard there Steve, with no cage or helmet. Consequences of getting a slapper on landing that jump?
For an A to B all weather sprinter it has to be the GTR. True it doesn't have the style or pedigree of the Jag but then it's cheaper AND has four wheel drive, a must for the UK and its shitty weather
Jag > Nissan
Until it breaks down...
Dude, I had an XK for 5 years without a single problem, so you can take that shit and ram it.
Yeah yeah... you were lucky. The fact is British cars suck at reliability
dimekoza
Jaguar models have been MUCH higher on the JD Power list then Mercedes models these last couple of years. This is not 1990 any more ... ;-)
(and also in the rain, in the snow and in the sun ... has 4 good useable places, huge boot ... and a hyperspace button)
First things first, I'm a massive fan of both cars so there's is no way I'm going to say anything negative about either of them.
The F-type coupe is also available in AWD, would be pretty interesting to run that against the GTR. Running a RWD against an AWD is pretty unfair, especially if your up against Godzilla :P
F-type AWD vs GTR AWD thumbs up if you too would like to see that happen!!!
