So let me get this straight. GTR is more comfortable, more stable and balanced, faster 0 - 60, faster quarter mile, faster lap time even though it is less powerful, heavier and apparently doesnt brake better than the Z06. Well, call me crazy but the GTR is really something out of the ordinary.
Looks like you didn't watch the whole video. The Z06 brakes better, grips better, has higher skidpad numbers, much faster figure 8 test and in the real world on a drag strip runs 10.8s @ 127 which is faster than any stock GT-R. And then there's the price, which is $50k less than the Nismo GT-R, and that is INCLUDING the Z07 package and all the optional aero, and the highest trim level.
Apparently I did. GTR grips better where as the ZO6 is tail happy. He even drove with one hand, what does that tell you. I mentioned Z06 brakes better and real world ? You mean taking it to the track and the GTR comes first, taking it to the streets and it beats the Z06. The drag strip is where we ll find out what the driver is made of. Still, the GTR beats the Z06.

Dan Chang Get the fancy comaro for cheap hp, but power isn't everything. The handling is very poor, even when driving in a straight line cause it's poorly engineered and unrefined with too much power to handle. That is the difference. You have to be a highly skilled professional to drive that shit fast or kiss your butt goodbye. Don't be fooled by bias american journalists, whom seem to always over look the poor quality of american cars and their poor quality interiors. American cars are the crappiest, cheapest and most poorly built cars you can get. You get what you pay for, that is a fact.
yeah but the WRX is like 28k, not my choice of car but that thing handles like a beast and keeps up with Audi S4's easily. Awd, one of the best 5 speeds on the market, as fast to 60 as legitimate sports cars, and CHEAP. I've raced several in my G37 and were neck to neck the entire time. So it's not always about the money either. I personally don't like camaros but the mustangs are pretty good sports cars for the money. 35k gets you a 5.0 with independent suspension, a nice manual, decent interior, and a whole lot of fun. I don't put that much bias on where the car comes from as much as how the car actually drives.
This video was launched in February 2015 and the Z06's lap at Laguna Seca in Best Drivers Car was launched in September, and that was when they discovered the overheating issue with the Z06. I assume the reason why this was so slow, is because of overheating, that alongside the wheel out of alignment could explain that big gap with the GT-R
Kris Perez The GTR is extremely fast on Big Willow, the 8 Spd likely wouldn't have made that much of a difference. However the Z06 is already faster around VIR and will probably be quicker at Laguna Seca as well. It really depends what track you're on with these cars as they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
I don't think it has anything to do with it's transmission. The c6 Z06(in some cases) as well as the the Zr1 have had no problems beating the GTR on a track in the past (yes, I know it wasn't a Nismo) with a manual, so the transmission isn't the culprit. It's gotta be the ECU and heat soak problem it's been having combined with the heap of downforce it's aero package creates that hinders its acceleration. Because to go around the figure 8 in 22.3 sec compared to the Nismo's 23.1 and be slower by 1.5 secs around a track, it doesn't add up. Wouldn't you agree?

Arun Chinna Meyyappan The video was made way before things squared out. Motortrend admitted that the Z06 ran the lap with a misaligned rear axle. They reran it with the proper alignment as suggested in the user's manual and the Z06 handily beat the GT-R.
The Z06 looks and sounds way better than the GTR IMO! Being a Brit, I'm not usually a fan of either US or Japanese cars styling wise. But you Americans are starting to put the wind up the Europeans with cars as good as this Camaro and the Mental Mustang GT350! Fantastic!

I may get bashed for this (and probably will anyway, because Internet...), but ANY comparison to the Porsche 918, in any category, is a win in my book. That alone puts it in a category reserved for cars way above its price point. GM did a great job on this car, and anyone who inks otherwise is biased from the beginning and their opinion is tainted to begin with. Name a car that does what this car does (without aftermarket modification) for the same price. there's maybe a handful, if that.

Fast Furious I disagree. It's a really unfair match up. The base model GT-R is 101k which would have been a way better choice to compare against a 105k corvette. The base model GT-R would have been way more under powered and would not have beat the corvette. But that's just my opinion if we're talking about performance.

I'm a Vette man, and I give the head to head victory to tge GTR. People need to stop being fanboys. BUT, the margin is so narrow, it comes down to preference. I'll also say this, the Z06's gears are taller, so a simple gear change would leave the GTR in the dust, but even then, you'd have to be a really great driver and not make ANY mistakes, as the GTR can be driven by grandma and beat the Z06 with a novice behind the wheel. You cannot say which is truly better. It all comes down to preference. Give me 1/4 million $ to spend on a car, and I'd have one of each. These are BOTH winners. If you REALKT wanna be anal, and include orice, of course the Z06 wins, as a change in gear ratio would be marginal at best, so you really can't judge it by speed, but in an average race, my $ is on the GTR. In a modified race with experienced drivers, I'll take the Z06. My prefetence? I'd take the Z28 with hp and torque upgrades over both, then you'd have both cars fused into 1, and there'd be no need to have both. Give me $100 grand, Z28 ftw. Spank em both.

What I'm saying is, the Z28 has more potential, and with a few thousand dollars added, and/or a couple minor adjustments, the Z28 would walk away from the Vette, and there's nothing that could be done to change that outcome. There's no replacement for displacement. The Z28 having a much larger displacement leaves more room to play with. If the Z28 motor can handle twin turbos or a supercharger, no contest. Period. Hell, all you'd have to do is change the gearing to be honest! And your kids can film it from the back seat.

Well, the GT-R is a beast coming out off the corners with that AWD for sure. Guess the Z06's later braking advantage wasn't enough to make up the difference. Plus, the GT-R has that slick dual clutch that clicks off lightning fast shifts. Was really hoping they would test a Z06 with the 8-speed auto as it is supposed to be quicker around a track than the manual. Might have been closer. Still, I would take the Z06 over the GT-R. If you want comfort and a car that almost drives itself around the track, then GT-R. If you want excitement and a car that challenges you to become better driver, then Z06, IMO.
The auto Z06 is not faster than the manual. Why do you think GM keeps sending the manual car to the track events? The auto shifts faster, but robs more power and heats up faster.
Callsign Vega Well, I did say "supposed to be quicker". The media has been saying the auto is the quicker way around a track. It could be that short supply of the automatic version is the reason why you see manuals being supplied to testers. Heard at least one reviewer say they wished they could have got an auto for testing. I do know that in a timed event, such as quarter mile or track, you lose time due to manually shifting gears. You can easily lose more than half a second just in a quarter mile and that adds up on a long track.

Really the Z06 seems like a children's car I can see a smiley face there, with a big mouth, a nose and 2 eyes the leds on the lights even make it worst. It looks like the movie "Cars" especially the red protagonist. GTR looks more professional, slim, serious, powerful and it's harder to see a face.

+Parnveer Bining The Corvette in this video is a C7 Z06, which is available with either a 7-speed manual or 8-speed auto. There is no C7 ZR1. The ZR1 was the top dog of the last generation (C6) Corvette line which ended production with the 2013 model year.
You know that paddle shifting it's not manual, and second there's no way muscle cars have paddle shifters. And besides the gtr it's a 6 speed semi automatic car, in other words, it's like half automatic and half manual. All you do in a gtr it's press the gas pedal and paddle shift next gear up, but you don't have the clutch pedal which in this case makes the gtr boring. But don't get all butt hurt, just because I prefer and choose the corvette over the gtr. You must understand that manual cars are fun to drive and there's no way an automatic or semi automatic car will replace the gift.

thisguy177 Dude you know very little about cars.. Yes on paper the Vet appears like the clear winner, but paper specs don't always bare full fruit when the wheels hit the road. I'm sure the vet could be tuned to get more performance out of it on that particular track, but the goal of this video was to bring 2 factory tuned cars and see what they can do.. I don't see any problems with how they tested these cars.

the z06 engine is smaller, lighter, and more understressed (low hp/L) so it'll last longer. plus, it delivers instant torque and sounds amazing (unlike a stupid little 6 cyl with turbos)

I'd take a GTR over a Corvette anyday! With AWD the GTR is an all year round supercar with 4 seats, more practicality, and better fuel economy than Corvette while the 650hp Corvette has too much power going only to the rear wheels, just search Corvette Crash Compilation and you'll see the RWD Corvette is extremely easy to spun out and crash like the Carrera GT did to Paul Walker, 400hp is the maximum I would want in an RWD car, 650hp would be fatal, any car over 400hp should be AWD, just to keep the power controllable and be responsible with that much power.
Good luck driving a GTR in the snow. Just because it has AWD doesn't discount the wide and track oriented tires. Also the Corvette gets better fuel economy at 30mpg highway. Paul Walker didn't crash because he was driving a RWD car and spun out either, it was because he was going 100mph on a public road and drove off the road. Finally, just because there's video compilations of a specific kind of car crashing doesn't mean its uncontrolable, if they made as many GTRs as they did Vettes, there'd be a compilation of them crashing too.
They retested the Z06 and found that it was faster around the track then the NISMO. This particular Z06 in the video had the rear alignment severely out of wack causing it to be slower.
NEVER count a GTR out! GTR can compete with super cars 3 times its price! Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever expected a NISSAN to be considered a SUPERCAR! RESPECT the GTR!
Lolman240 So odd when people say a car will do things by itself. The GTR won't do anything "by itself". It's still a car, which means it requires driver inputs for throttle, brake and steering (among other things). It's not automated or self-propelled. It isn't a shuttle craft on star trek. Have you driven one? It's absolutely exhilarating and it does push you to become a better driver. Perhaps you meant to say the z06 is more visceral? That, I would agree with.

The only reason randy says the corvette is hard to manage is because he's driving it at 100% of what it can do. I've ridden in a non z07 z06 on the track. It was my instructors car. No mods, completely stock and it ripped your face off in turns and braking. Never got side ways and I didn't knownyou could get on throttle that soon coming out of a corner with that car. It amazed me to be honest. For everyday people c7 z06 is not hard to control at all. I love that car.
@aaronvector4750 I know it had that, but I've heard him say that before and a lot of drivers have said it about corvettes. What I've found is that driving it at 100% is harder, not how a majority of regular people on the track would drive it.
They need to put in the description that they retested after fixing the alignment and the vette got a 1:25, but whatever. Gtr fanboys everywhere are using this video now as proof that there car is faster even though it's wrong. Thanks motor trend.

I love Chevy and I love corvettes but they are lighter, make more power and should destroy the GTR on paper. But the magic of Godzilla always pulls through. It's was originally 100,000 but I would still get the Nismo no matter what Bc it's very unique I want to drive a car that is not seen everyday Bc I always see vettes and muscle and every Porsche xD
no shame in losing the the nismo. its a 170,000 car with the same options they had on the vette. plus this GTR resembles next to nothing from the 1st one back in 2007. this is completely reworked from the engine internals to the shock set up to the chassis rigidity. other than interior or exterior its completely different.
I just thinking that when I show the video. It appears the aero is used to try to tame it. On the limit the aero doesn't work at lower speeds. GM should've delayed the car from being released. They know Randy will tell all that's not working in handling.

Not surprised for 2 reasons. 1 the nissan has had years to improve upon the gtr and 2 it has a great awd system. Tell you what, put the optional ceramic brakes and some cup 2 tires and the gtr would be even faster. Doesn't. Matter how much fun FR cars are they're Going to struggle with corner exit grip in high hp applications. I can just imagine how much the gtr fandbois are celebrating now lol. Good job with the video. ***** The normal GT-R has "performance tires" but they're pretty far from being a track oriented tire like the Cup 2. The Dunlop SP Sport Max GT600 DSST CTT is more geared towards durability than outright grip. This Nismo has the same tire with less treads.

The reason GT-R nismo accelerates quicker is because the setup of the car allows the driver to hit the gas sooner than the Corvette. As Randy mentioned, "the car rotates at corner exit". That's because ATTESA ET-S is 100% RWD, allowing throttle steer to gain turning angle during under-steer while the front will receive right amount of power once the rear starting to lose effective amount of both lateral and longitudinal grip. In other word, the sooner he hits the gas, more balance he'll gain from the setup. And that is how the nismo "out-accelerated" the Z06. Simple as that.
The ATTESA is rear-biased all-wheel drive system... the rear always have power, getting 50-100% (i think its 70 - 100, maybe a little too high on the 50) of engine power depending on the driving conditions with its Electronic Torque Split. When the sensors need the front, up to 50% (again, maybe a little too high. probably 30) of torque can be sent to the front wheels. I think all GTRs including skyline GTRs are like that. Its only 100% when you are not pushing it or on dry pavement meaning you probably never feel the full 100% rear at the track unless the sensors see or feel nothing that it needs 30% to the front. Whats impressive about the weight of the GTR is that it has more drivetrain parts than the Vette, yet it only weighs 120KGs more (Engine sends power to a gearbox at the back that weighs about half the weight of its engine. Gearbox sends that power back to the front with another shaft to a diff somewhere under the engine.) Also the Box is clever... it is an automated manual... not a full automatic. 2 wet computer controlled clutches which are simutaneously working together. 1 controls the odd gears and the other the even gears so before you even shift into second, the gears is already pre-shifted by the second clutch and the 1st clutch disangages 1st and so on. With the all-wheel drive system, the weight and the engine, the car is nearly perfectly-balanced with good handling and grip so that the driver feels confident and in full control at all times. The GTR was built with weight in mind thats why they wont get rid of it nomatter how much you ask. It has almost nothing going on on the outside and looks like a brick because its weight is its downforce. A car that weighs a lot, handles and in the hands of inexperienced drivers they need that weight which is why you will probably reach the GTR's lap than you would in the Vette. It reminds me mostly of the failed LMP1-H class Nissan GTR LM Nismo in the sense that it has no aero trickery like the class leaders on the outside but managed to record about the same top speed with 5 gears and a disabled hybrid system... (Looking at the size of that things gearbox, it was lugging around weight.) The thing weighs like an SUV but has shared a 0-60 with hypercars 4-10x its price with less than 1/2 their horsepower and a stock one once did a 10.8 1/4 The GTR should be worth more than it is even after the price of the Nismo... I recon it was way underpriced when it debuted and the current price should have been what it was worth but its a NIssan. I think Nissan did well by taking the GTR package for the RWD skyline and making it into its own product... the GTR But other than that, I agree with most of what you said on the last and half of second last sentence.

I love the Z06 but there is something seriously wrong with this car. On the straights it is slower in acc. The spoiler on the back is making it slower. Top speed has been cut. It over heats quick. They are struggling to get a ring time because i feel its slower than the old Z06/Z07 package. This car is fighting it's own self. This car could be a big flop for GM and it is there fault. This car has lost to so many cars on RUclips. Get the last Z06 and Zr1 do a comparison to this. It might Lose.
Let's say this baby has some issues. The dyno reading really show what is wrong with Z06. Torque spikes fairly quickly. Leaving nothing on the top end. You have say 600+hp till 130.After such speed heat soak,drag and ecu cuts timing. The highway pulls back December were a sign of things to come. GM claims the Ring lap was rained out. Throw in some race like fuel. Probably could get a great Ring time. Any less long back strait will kill this car top speed. We have to see what this CTS-V will do. It has similar engine but much better cooling management then Z06.
Jeffrey Williams it's the computer. it pulls timing to keep the engine alive. with the 100K warranties chevy has to keep the engine going. tuners said it pulls like 10 degrees[that's like 100hp loss]

Price dnt matter because its not the price that’s the problem. It doesn’t cost Chevy 60K to add more downforce. Notice the ZR1 has a huge wing and front pieces for downforce. Yet it’s still not a great drivers car everybody is saying the chassis feels like it’s to much power and hard to drive. Front engine rear drive with no advanced aero, 650-700 pounds of torque. That’s going to be tough to drive. Rather get a 812 super fast and pay the extra 200K
thats what tuning is all about. you dial each aspect of the car to get the best time. even badge on some car that you remove from the grill make it have higher speed or accelerate faster on top speed. this is why when manufacture make a higher end model it cost so much more but the component barely changes. the cost goes to the R&D and in turn, that makes the cost go up more and not adding more HP or component.
1) the gtr has the bigger motor...put them side by side and you'll laugh your ass off at how much smaller the v8 will be. 2) the z06 in the video had an alignment issue. read motor trends article about it, the realigned the car and it ran a better time than the gtr gtr loses to another corvette, as usual

So which video shows the Z06 beating this record? Just watched their Vette Grand Sport vs Porsche video, and it shows the 2015 Z06 as the fastest car they've tested at Willow Springs. It got an even 1:25:00.
There wasn't a video. After this test/video..GM checked the car and found the rear alignment was out. They also noticed that Willow springs track is so rough..that even on the softest suspension setting it was to stiff..which made the car skittish. GM reprogrammed the magnetic shocks...which I hoped they would have ran it again before they did that. (GT-R fan boys are Crying foul) The manual Z06 did 1:25.00, they also brought an automatic Z06 and it ran 1:25.76 (0.06 seconds slower than the Nismo 1:25.70). FYI, the ACR viper has the track record at 1:21.24. Ryan Nutter Non-American supercars have only held the top steps when it came to Drag racing in stock trim. AWD or rear/mid engine weight bias give them an advantage in launches/traction and the fact that all most all of them have DCT transmissions and American cars don't give them an 0.5+ ET advantage. Only the Z06 automatic is similar in performance (10.9@128mph) If only Dodge had a DCT/automatic available in the viper for the last year...would easily out run the Z06.(better traction and hp/lbs).
These are less of sports cars and more of track cars. Both are too uncomfortable in their sport or race mode. The base GTR is more appealing for both driving and it's price. The same goes for Z06. Z06 has wider tires than 918 (front) and are basically the stickiest semi slicks on the market. The trend with ever wider tires, especially in the front, and ever extremer aero packages to make fast track cars, is moving these cars from being sports cars to track specialists. Z/28 with worlds widest front tires (also sticky semi slicks) comes to mind. And too much torque is good in a track or race car, not in a sports car. If you want to do some inspired driving and reving your engine on a canyon road with Z06, I think you can only shift from 1st to 2nd and back. With that much torque you will be at insane speeds already in 3rd gear. And you could leave it in 3rd all the time with no need to shift. The base Corvette C7 with Z51 package is a much more appealing sports car than this track monster. GTR is close to ending it's cycle and it shows. Z06 could have been a nice sports car 1 or 2 steps above C7 but unfortunately it turned out to be a track car. Despite all the advantages Z06 has over GTR with much wider stickier tires, so much better brakes, more power and torque and less weight still lost to this old design GTR so decisively.
I must say all points are very inline. Z06 was actually developed with the race car. On looks that what it really is. Problem here is GM didn't tune Z06 properly. The claimed power is for a little while before computer says that's enough of the fun and games,lol.. To protect engine and other valuable parts ECU cuts power and timing some 10 degrees. From then on car is well under 600hp. GM wishes to see their engine last 100,000 miles. Tuning a supercharger based car is no easy trick. There must be all kinds of radiators to cool it. The Hellcat has a very different supercharger. The cooling on that monster probably adds 100+ pounds in weight. It appears GM didn't want to add such weight.I've looked over all the cooling components. I don't see this setup working out. They will have to add weight to get all right.If not ECU will just only allow a short duration of power. The handling is a issue too. GM should have delayed this car. The CTS-V has the same engine but with a different cooling system. I will have to see 1 tested for a better reference point.
Jeffrey Williams It's pretty ridiculous to have a 100,000 mile warranty on a high performance car like the Z06. Hopefully GM will tune the ECU differently so the LT4 won't be strangled.
Jeffrey Williams I think you're right about the handling. Such a track focused car with that much torque, extreme tires, brakes and aero should preform much better. I think they need to make some adjustments to the chassis.
NoReplacementForDisplacement I think we need to relax a little. For the first time Z06 is actually the better car not including the lap time. You could drive it more then this NISMO. The Stingray Z51 is still the best bargain. When the tuner contacted GM of the conservative tune issue I knew we were in for disappointment. GM came out and stated of issues in hitting emissions targets. The white flag was thrown for there on. The handling issues I read online. Z06 isn't a polish car. They haven't ironed out the minor things. If you want a old school wheel spinning tire burning car. This Z06 will make you day. I still see it as a tuners dream. This could be the car that wrecked at the Ring,lol. Might be a unfinished test mule. Maybe some details will come out about it. The auto should be the better car on track. I still think torque converter can tame the power out of corners. Not for use how long it will last either but hopefully a test of 1 happens soon. The warranty is the big killer here. It's damn hard to guarantee a track car for 100,000 miles. I mean come on, this is no Hyundai.
Jeffrey Williams GM's still got time to iron out the kinks so I don't mind that much, but strangling the LT4 so it has the lifespan of a family hatchback is beyond stupid to me. Especially on the Z07 package Z06. Vengeance racing was able to get 660hp/663tq at the wheels with a few minor changes to the LT4. Or there could be issues with this specific car, who knows honestly. I can't wait for MT to take the Z06 to Laguna Seca though.

The retest was because gm was so butthurt they got beat by the underdog NISMO and to save their pride made up so lie about an alignment issue just so they can tweak it to fit the track. ya the GT-R used to be the most amazing because of its price to preformance ratio. $60,000 and hand built everything, attention to to detail was amazing for price as well.. now starting prices are $110,000 but i think the 2017 even at $110,000 is insane value for money they really hoping power even on base model to old Nismo edition specs. and people thinking Vette is better value, it really isn't, I priced one out myself and they nickle and dime you everywhere. like buying a German car, everything costs extra.. everything.. can't ever buy just a base model, never it will atleast have one extra to jack up its price so they can haggle. the GT-R has set feature sets. no nickle and diming. base model is their luxury premium model.. nice comfy seats that hug you in corners, you get 4 seats infact, nice Bose audio system, leather all around, great amount of sound deadening, so pretty surprising how fast it really is once u get used to it quietness, and slightly more compliant suspension, nice large touch interface, well spec'd and trimmed. then Nismo Edition, which all of the same, plus more power, more exhaust, more rear wing, more track tuning and more aggressive awd system. then black/track edition, this strips out bunch of luxuries, adds even more power, more exhaust, and even more aggressive tuning. and if your really soft in the head or have more money than possibly know what to do with and donating and helping humanity seems unappealing .... then have theres the Alpha editions GT-Rs. these are black edition GT-Rs with special under the hood tuning. range from modest 800WHP. to 1200WHP.
Here on the old continent (Europe) they are about the same price. And the Vette (and I love it, the new ones are great), is VERY expensive to own due to the high engine capacity. The vette's engine makes in Belgium 3600€/Year in road tax. The GTR is only 1200€/Year. And gasoline costs 1,5€/liter = 5,6$ US / gallon. I had a GTR R35, drove it in terrential rain, snow, in the summer on the Nurburgring, at Spa ... I ferried people with their luggage to the airport (4 usable seats and very big boot). So if our tax system would change again (currently I would pay 19500€/Year in tax on a GTR/Vette), I'll get a new one. They are great daily drivers (but very hard). Or ... a new C7 automatic. :-)
I've hear there has been trouble with the new LT1 engine, I'll bet if they put it on the dyno it's not making 650 horse. Wing or no wing with lighter weight more power and stickier tires it should be leaving the Nissan in the straights.
DAK454 People have already dyno'd the Z06 it makes 650 hp and torque. It's most likely the ECU pulling power. Also the problems with the LT1 have been fixed and the Z06 uses an LT4.
So Motor trend just tested the regular ZL-1 here and they got 1:25.87 tire pressure adjustments. I can't wait until they lap the 1LE variation of the ZL-1. It's going to be so funny when it beats it's big brother the Z06 on the track.
why didnt they use an automatic with the zo6? its 2.9 to 60mph and the 1/4 mile time is like 10.9 not 11.4. how could you get 3.3 0-60mph when it was 3.1 with manual 2.9 with automatic. quarter mile manual is 11.1 with auto its 10.9. only .2 seconds difference not much but enough to matter.

thisguy177 From what I've read auto is the better overall package. MT had a mag deadline to meet. GM pretty much gave MT what was available. They should've told them NO. We are working on some issues with the cars. Model in video was a early prototype brought up to spec.Not sure how it was used in development. Results show car had some issues to work out. Hate to see this happen. Maybe next time will be a different story.

Look up 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Track Retest - Motor Trend. The manual Z06 ran a 1:25.00 and the automatic a 1:25.76 to the NISMO’s 1:25.70. The rear suspension was out of alignment during the first test. So the manual is ever so slightly faster and the automatic is practically identical to the NISMO.
James Barnes $150k nissan beats most supercars costing twice as much. and the brand isnt as attractive as a lambo or ferrari nor the looks of the GTR. and the Z06 is only $78k.... hella cheap

It's why I can say the Nismo GTR was quicker here, when you say the worked Vette had a faster time. I've clarified how it was worked to you in a different reply elsewhere here, along with the simple example on how you take what I say out of context. Finally, a car's ability to produce more G's in any given circumstance is a good example of how a car is exceptional balanced; why would they bother with those test's if it wasn't? Plz entertain me with a reply to that. You see, even the ZO6 here has momentary pauses when going through a corner; this is done to give the driver a break & enjoy the ride at the cost of decreased mid corner altitude & manuverability. The GTR does away with these pauses, so even if a car has one stronger G reading like the Vette; a single stronger G cannot match multiple ones only slightly weaker in comparison. That's precisely what the GTR accomplishes. As for how the GTR accomplishes this, that's in the realm of sensitivity & wonder to the Nissan engineer's. The only problem I have with it is the tyres, less grippy tyres do make 4 wheel steer easier; but the Vette's tyres would completely change it & take it to another level. I assume that Nissan made the GTR into a G generating machine to aid stability, why not equip it with tyres that do this much better than the current stock ones if that was there approach? Good thing owner's are doing this anyway to see the difference.

Which was done to the Vette with the 1:25 time. It did have a rear alignment done to fix, what you claim; didn't need fixing. But they should have left it at that. As a result, the GTR is quicker than the Vette you claim isn't broken; (😂) because it was stock.

wait shouldn't the Z06 be compared to the track edition GTR? not the nismo... and no shame in losing the the nismo. its a 170,000 car with the same options they had on the vette. plus this GTR resembles next to nothing from the 1st one back in 2007. this is completely reworked from the engine internals to the shock set up to the chassis rigidity. other than interior or exterior its completely different.

To all you GTR fan boys.... the gtr wasn't developed any better or worse than the Z06. The reason the Z06 lost the track battle is the same reason the Zr1 beat the viper gts at Laguna Seca...driver confidence. The Gtr's 4wd system allows you to be more confident, relaxed, and less strained on not how much throttle to give it out of the corners but, when and how much earlier can I give this thing full throttle. 4wd give you more traction, more traction means a more confident driver, which equal up to faster lap time. The end.
Dont get me wrong I dont hate the Gtr I just hate the fan boys that try to make it seem like Nissan engineered their car soooo much better than GM did the Corvette. Trust and believe if you disable that front axel on the gtr it would be a different ballgame. Both cars are the best in their individual drive trane layout.
So prius would be magically faster than corvette if the driver is more confident? This goes for the situation where cars are equal but one gives more confidence. In this case on paper corvette has all the edges - it has more power, more torque, a lot less weight, way better brakws, way better tires. Basically all the simple understandable things are better.
Aur0n a prius lol really lets be adults and keep things in perspective, a prius no but something like a hot Megan, fiesta, or 208 gti in a super tight technical course (topgear uk fiesta vs corvette in a mall), yes the small front drive would beat a much much more powerful rear drive car....power, torque, less weight, good brakes and tires don't mean jack shit if your suspension and aero settings wont allow you to put all that power to the ground properly. Well at least at thos particular track. Now somewhere like the N-ring the vette would just power buy the gtr with its long high speed sweepers and straights. The vette, with a softer suspension setting cause the ring is bumpier than hell, would be rock solid stsble with tge stage 3 aero kit. Not to say this track is small but it was the right size and the right amount of corners for the gtr to blast out of each one. Thats the real beauty of Awd. Lol no pun intended.
BigGuz53 chasis recalibration and a pissed off Randy. Ralph Giles ,ceo of SRT at the time, said Randy was always afraid of the Viper which is why he was reluctant to push it to its limits. Randy made sure to make ole Ralphy a lier the second time around.
This Z06 had alignement issues and the manual Z06 beat the Nismo's time during the retest. The automatic was slower than the manual Z06. It was barely slower than the Nismo with a time of 1:25.76 vs. the GT-R's 1:25.70
You know what sucks and yet is awesome about cars? There will never be an automobile that is the best, because the next day will see a stronger, faster, overall improved version of the older one.

CCZ Z06 tested was over 100k. There are no do overs. Nismo won fair and square. You can't take a test, lose, then make a number of changes and run a dozen or so laps to get a better time.
CSM1470 It wasn't fair and square. The rear suspension was out of alignment on the Z06. If you think that test was fair, then you're an idiot. Proof from MotoTrend: "The real reason the Z06 was slower was because Chevrolet gave us a car with the rear suspension out of alignment. It was supposed to be running 0 degrees of rear caster. Jeffrey Williams Wrong in their latest article. z06 ran a 1:25:00 they retested with the auto as well which ran a 1:25:76 nismo ran 1:25.70. the Z06 won ;) with manuel. oh and it did it with out octane boost which the GTR had Z06 ran pump gas

In real life it comes down to driver. At the track I see way more Vette drivers pushing their cars then GTR drivers. The confidence is key. Even though the GTR is more stable around the track. It lacks personality. And that’s why so many GTR owners don’t connect well with their cars.

Domination was shorted lived. Z06 did have issue in rear. Driver in video is clearly having difficulties with it. GM came out to Willow like I knew they would. Many thought all was set in stone after these results. After retest Z06 was over 2 secs faster then first tested. New time is 1:25.00.

There is a stg 1 package with SS tires. Someone posted similar Z06 on winter tires. The Cup2 are for track performance. On the street good luck with them in damp conditions.

So let me get this straight. GTR is more comfortable, more stable and balanced, faster 0 - 60, faster quarter mile, faster lap time even though it is less powerful, heavier and apparently doesnt brake better than the Z06. Well, call me crazy but the GTR is really something out of the ordinary.
Looks like you didn't watch the whole video. The Z06 brakes better, grips better, has higher skidpad numbers, much faster figure 8 test and in the real world on a drag strip runs 10.8s @ 127 which is faster than any stock GT-R. And then there's the price, which is $50k less than the Nismo GT-R, and that is INCLUDING the Z07 package and all the optional aero, and the highest trim level.
Apparently I did. GTR grips better where as the ZO6 is tail happy. He even drove with one hand, what does that tell you. I mentioned Z06 brakes better and real world ? You mean taking it to the track and the GTR comes first, taking it to the streets and it beats the Z06. The drag strip is where we ll find out what the driver is made of. The handling is very poor, even when driving in a straight line cause it's poorly engineered and unrefined with too much power to handle. That is the difference. You have to be a highly skilled professional to drive that shit fast or kiss your butt goodbye. yeah but the WRX is like 28k, not my choice of car but that thing handles like a beast and keeps up with Audi S4's easily. Awd, one of the best 5 speeds on the market, as fast to 60 as legitimate sports cars, and CHEAP. I've raced several in my G37 and were neck to neck the entire time. So it's not always about the money either. I personally don't like camaros but the mustangs are pretty good sports cars for the money. 35k gets you a 5.0 with independent suspension, a nice manual, decent interior, and a whole lot of fun. I don't put that much bias on where the car comes from as much as how the car actually drives.
That being said, I wouldn't trade my G for the world. damn that thing is nice. and fast too

This video was launched in February 2015 and the Z06's lap at Laguna Seca in Best Drivers Car was launched in September, and that was when they discovered the overheating issue with the Z06.
I assume the reason why this was so slow, is because of overheating, that alongside the wheel out of alignment could explain that big gap with the GT-R

Kris Perez The GTR is extremely fast on Big Willow, the 8 Spd likely wouldn't have made that much of a difference. However the Z06 is already faster around VIR and will probably be quicker at Laguna Seca as well. It really depends what track you're on with these cars as they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I don't think it has anything to do with it's transmission. The c6 Z06(in some cases) as well as the the Zr1 have had no problems beating the GTR on a track in the past (yes, I know it wasn't a Nismo) with a manual, so the transmission isn't the culprit. It's gotta be the ECU and heat soak problem it's been having combined with the heap of downforce it's aero package creates that hinders its acceleration. Because to go around the figure 8 in 22.3 sec compared to the Nismo's 23.1 and be slower by 1.5 secs around a track, it doesn't add up. Wouldn't you agree?

Chevy is late to the game of track time cars. They were mainly focused on cheap muscle cars for decades. It's only the last 10 years did they start to take it seriously. They've improved quite a bit. I'd not buy the Corvette if forced to spend $100k on a sportscar, but still respect it for its performance for that price.

Arun Chinna Meyyappan The video was made way before things squared out. Motortrend admitted that the Z06 ran the lap with a misaligned rear axle. They reran it with the proper alignment as suggested in the user's manual and the Z06 handily beat the GT-R.

Fast Furious I disagree. It's a really unfair match up. The base model GT-R is 101k which would have been a way better choice to compare against a 105k corvette. The base model GT-R would have been way more under powered and would not have beat the corvette. But that's just my opinion if we're talking about performance.

I'm a Vette man, and I give the head to head victory to tge GTR. People need to stop being fanboys. BUT, the margin is so narrow, it comes down to preference. I'll also say this, the Z06's gears are taller, so a simple gear change would leave the GTR in the dust, but even then, you'd have to be a really great driver and not make ANY mistakes, as the GTR can be driven by grandma and beat the Z06 with a novice behind the wheel. You cannot say which is truly better. It all comes down to preference. Give me 1/4 million $ to spend on a car, and I'd have one of each. These are BOTH winners. If you REALKT wanna be anal, and include orice, of course the Z06 wins, as a change in gear ratio would be marginal at best, so you really can't judge it by speed, but in an average race, my $ is on the GTR. In a modified race with experienced drivers, I'll take the Z06. My prefetence? I'd take the Z28 with hp and torque upgrades over both, then you'd have both cars fused into 1, and there'd be no need to have both. Give me $100 grand, Z28 ftw. Spank em both.

What I'm saying is, the Z28 has more potential, and with a few thousand dollars added, and/or a couple minor adjustments, the Z28 would walk away from the Vette, and there's nothing that could be done to change that outcome. There's no replacement for displacement. The Z28 having a much larger displacement leaves more room to play with. If the Z28 motor can handle twin turbos or a supercharger, no contest. Period. Hell, all you'd have to do is change the gearing to be honest! And your kids can film it from the back seat.

Well, the GT-R is a beast coming out off the corners with that AWD for sure. Guess the Z06's later braking advantage wasn't enough to make up the difference. Plus, the GT-R has that slick dual clutch that clicks off lightning fast shifts. Was really hoping they would test a Z06 with the 8-speed auto as it is supposed to be quicker around a track than the manual. Might have been closer. Still, I would take the Z06 over the GT-R. If you want comfort and a car that almost drives itself around the track, then GT-R. If you want excitement and a car that challenges you to become better driver, then Z06, IMO.

Callsign Vega Well, I did say "supposed to be quicker". The media has been saying the auto is the quicker way around a track. It could be that short supply of the automatic version is the reason why you see manuals being supplied to testers. Heard at least one reviewer say they wished they could have got an auto for testing. I do know that in a timed event, such as quarter mile or track, you lose time due to manually shifting gears. You can easily lose more than half a second just in a quarter mile and that adds up on a long track.

The Corvette in this video is a C7 Z06, which is available with either a 7-speed manual or 8-speed auto. There is no C7 ZR1. The ZR1 was the top dog of the last generation (C6) Corvette line which ended production with the 2013 model year.

You know that paddle shifting it's not manual, and second there's no way muscle cars have paddle shifters. And besides the gtr it's a 6 speed semi automatic car, in other words, it's like half automatic and half manual. All you do in a gtr it's press the gas pedal and paddle shift next gear up, but you don't have the clutch pedal which in this case makes the gtr boring. But don't get all butt hurt, just because I prefer and choose the corvette over the gtr. You must understand that manual cars are fun to drive and there's no way an automatic or semi automatic car will replace the gift.

I don't see any problems with how they tested these cars.

I'd take a GTR over a Corvette anyday! With AWD the GTR is an all year round supercar with 4 seats, more practicality, and better fuel economy than Corvette while the 650hp Corvette has too much power going only to the rear wheels, just search Corvette Crash Compilation and you'll see the RWD Corvette is extremely easy to spun out and crash like the Carrera GT did to Paul Walker, 400hp is the maximum I would want in an RWD car, 650hp would be fatal, any car over 400hp should be AWD, just to keep the power controllable and be responsible with that much power.

Good luck driving a GTR in the snow. Just because it has AWD doesn't discount the wide and track oriented tires. Also the Corvette gets better fuel economy at 30mpg highway. Paul Walker didn't crash because he was driving a RWD car and spun out either, it was because he was going 100mph on a public road and drove off the road. Finally, just because there's video compilations of a specific kind of car crashing doesn't mean its uncontrolable, if they made as many GTRs as they did Vettes, there'd be a compilation of them crashing too.

They retested the Z06 and found that it was faster around the track then the NISMO. This particular Z06 in the video had the rear alignment severely out of wack causing it to be slower.

The only reason randy says the corvette is hard to manage is because he's driving it at 100% of what it can do. I've ridden in a non z07 z06 on the track. It was my instructors car. No mods, completely stock and it ripped your face off in turns and braking. Never got side ways and I didn't knownyou could get on throttle that soon coming out of a corner with that car. It amazed me to be honest. For everyday people c7 z06 is not hard to control at all. I love that car.

This sheds some light on the Nurburgring crash/ lap time delay situation. The car is a handful when pushed to the limit.
I just thinking that when I show the video. It appears the aero is used to try to tame it. On the limit the aero doesn't work at lower speeds. GM should've delayed the car from being released. They know Randy will tell all that's not working in handling.

Tell you what, put the optional ceramic brakes and some cup 2 tires and the gtr would be even faster. Doesn't. One little tips, the 1,720 kg GT-R nismo won't out-accelerate a 1,600 kg Z06 with 50 horsepower less and 170 lb/ft torque less... Use some logic man. Close gear ratio and aerodynamic isn't everything... The reason GT-R nismo accelerates quicker is because the setup of the car allows the driver to hit the gas sooner than the Corvette. As Randy mentioned, "the car rotates at corner exit". That's because ATTESA ET-S is 100% RWD, allowing throttle steer to gain turning angle during under-steer while the front will receive right amount of power once the rear starting to lose effective amount of both lateral and longitudinal grip. In other word, the sooner he hits the gas, more balance he'll gain from the setup. And that is how the nismo "out-accelerated" the Z06. Simple as that.
The ATTESA is rear-biased all-wheel drive system... the rear always have power, getting 50-100% (i think its 70 - 100, maybe a little too high on the 50) of engine power depending on the driving conditions with its Electronic Torque Split. When the sensors need the front, up to 50% (again, maybe a little too high. probably 30) of torque can be sent to the front wheels.
I think all GTRs including skyline GTRs are like that. Its only 100% when you are not pushing it or on dry pavement meaning you probably never feel the full 100% rear at the track unless the sensors see or feel nothing that it needs 30% to the front.
Whats impressive about the weight of the GTR is that it has more drivetrain parts than the Vette, yet it only weighs 120KGs more
(Engine sends power to a gearbox at the back that weighs about half the weight of its engine. Gearbox sends that power back to the front with another shaft to a diff somewhere under the engine.)
Also the Box is clever... it is an automated manual... not a full automatic. 2 wet computer controlled clutches which are simutaneously working together. 1 controls the odd gears and the other the even gears so before you even shift into second, the gears is already pre-shifted by the second clutch and the 1st clutch disangages 1st and so on.
With the all-wheel drive system, the weight and the engine, the car is nearly perfectly-balanced with good handling and grip so that the driver feels confident and in full control at all times.
The GTR was built with weight in mind thats why they wont get rid of it nomatter how much you ask.
It has almost nothing going on on the outside and looks like a brick because its weight is its downforce. A car that weighs a lot, handles and in the hands of inexperienced drivers they need that weight which is why you will probably reach the GTR's lap than you would in the Vette.
It reminds me mostly of the failed LMP1-H class Nissan GTR LM Nismo in the sense that it has no aero trickery like the class leaders on the outside but managed to record about the same top speed with 5 gears and a disabled hybrid system... (Looking at the size of that things gearbox, it was lugging around weight.)
The thing weighs like an SUV but has shared a 0-60 with hypercars 4-10x its price with less than 1/2 their horsepower and a stock one once did a 10.8 1/4
The GTR should be worth more than it is even after the price of the Nismo... I recon it was way underpriced when it debuted and the current price should have been what it was worth but its a NIssan. I think Nissan did well by taking the GTR package for the RWD skyline and making it into its own product... the GTR

I love the Z06 but there is something seriously wrong with this car. On the straights it is slower in acc. The spoiler on the back is making it slower. Top speed has been cut. It over heats quick. They are struggling to get a ring time because i feel its slower than the old Z06/Z07 package. This car is fighting it's own self. This car could be a big flop for GM and it is there fault. This car has lost to so many cars on RUclips. Get the last Z06 and Zr1 do a comparison to this. It might Lose.
Let's say this baby has some issues. The dyno reading really show what is wrong with Z06. Torque spikes fairly quickly. Leaving nothing on the top end. You have say 600+hp till 130.After such speed heat soak,drag and ecu cuts timing.

Price dnt matter because its not the price that’s the problem. It doesn’t cost Chevy 60K to add more downforce. Notice the ZR1 has a huge wing and front pieces for downforce. Yet it’s still not a great drivers car everybody is saying the chassis feels like it’s to much power and hard to drive. Front engine rear drive with no advanced aero, 650-700 pounds of torque. That’s going to be tough to drive. Rather get a 812 super fast and pay the extra 200K

thats what tuning is all about. you dial each aspect of the car to get the best time. even badge on some car that you remove from the grill make it have higher speed or accelerate faster on top speed. this is why when manufacture make a higher end model it cost so much more but the component barely changes. the cost goes to the R&D and in turn, that makes the cost go up more and not adding more HP or component.

So which video shows the Z06 beating this record? Just watched their Vette Grand Sport vs Porsche video, and it shows the 2015 Z06 as the fastest car they've tested at Willow Springs. It got an even 1:25:00.
There wasn't a video. After this test/video..GM checked the car and found the rear alignment was out. They also noticed that Willow springs track is so rough..that even on the softest suspension setting it was to stiff..which made the car skittish. GM reprogrammed the magnetic shocks...which I hoped they would have ran it again before they did that. (GT-R fan boys are Crying foul) The manual Z06 did 1:25.00, they also brought an automatic Z06 and it ran 1:25.76 (0.06 seconds slower than the Nismo 1:25.70).
FYI, the ACR viper has the track record at 1:21.24.

Ryan Nutter Non-American supercars have only held the top steps when it came to Drag racing in stock trim. AWD or rear/mid engine weight bias give them an advantage in launches/traction and the fact that all most all of them have DCT transmissions and American cars don't give them an 0.5+ ET advantage.
Only the Z06 automatic is similar in performance (10.9@128mph) If only Dodge had a DCT/automatic available in the viper for the last year...would easily out run the Z06.(better traction and hp/lbs).
These are less of sports cars and more of track cars. Both are too uncomfortable in their sport or race mode. The base GTR is more appealing for both driving and it's price. The same goes for Z06. Z06 has wider tires than 918 (front) and are basically the stickiest semi slicks on the market. The trend with ever wider tires, especially in the front, and ever extremer aero packages to make fast track cars, is moving these cars from being sports cars to track specialists. Z/28 with worlds widest front tires (also sticky semi slicks) comes to mind.
And too much torque is good in a track or race car, not in a sports car. If you want to do some inspired driving and reving your engine on a canyon road with Z06, I think you can only shift from 1st to 2nd and back. With that much torque you will be at insane speeds already in 3rd gear. And you could leave it in 3rd all the time with no need to shift. The base Corvette C7 with Z51 package is a much more appealing sports car than this track monster. GTR is close to ending it's cycle and it shows. Z06 could have been a nice sports car 1 or 2 steps above C7 but unfortunately it turned out to be a track car.
Despite all the advantages Z06 has over GTR with much wider stickier tires, so much better brakes, more power and torque and less weight still lost to this old design GTR so decisively.
I must say all points are very inline. Z06 was actually developed with the race car. On looks that what it really is. Problem here is GM didn't tune Z06 properly. The claimed power is for a little while before computer says that's enough of the fun and games,lol.. To protect engine and other valuable parts ECU cuts power and timing some 10 degrees. From then on car is well under 600hp. GM wishes to see their engine last 100,000 miles. Tuning a supercharger based car is no easy trick. There must be all kinds of radiators to cool it.
The Hellcat has a very different supercharger. The cooling on that monster probably adds 100+ pounds in weight.
It appears GM didn't want to add such weight.I've looked over all the cooling components. I don't see this setup working out. They will have to add weight to get all right.If not ECU will just only allow a short duration of power.
The handling is a issue too. GM should have delayed this car.
The CTS-V has the same engine but with a different cooling system. I will have to see 1 tested for a better reference point.
Jeffrey Williams It's pretty ridiculous to have a 100,000 mile warranty on a high performance car like the Z06. Hopefully GM will tune the ECU differently so the LT4 won't be strangled.
Jeffrey Williams I think you're right about the handling. Such a track focused car with that much torque, extreme tires, brakes and aero should preform much better. I think they need to make some adjustments to the chassis.
NoReplacementForDisplacement I think we need to relax a little. For the first time Z06 is actually the better car not including the lap time. You could drive it more then this NISMO. The Stingray Z51 is still the best bargain.
When the tuner contacted GM of the conservative tune issue I knew we were in for disappointment. GM came out and stated of issues in hitting emissions targets. The white flag was thrown for there on.
The handling issues I read online. Z06 isn't a polish car. They haven't ironed out the minor things. If you want a old school wheel spinning tire burning car. This Z06 will make you day. I still see it as a tuners dream. This could be the car that wrecked at the Ring,lol. Might be a unfinished test mule. Maybe some details will come out about it.
The auto should be the better car on track. I still think torque converter can tame the power out of corners.
Not for use how long it will last either but hopefully a test of 1 happens soon.
The warranty is the big killer here. It's damn hard to guarantee a track car for 100,000 miles. I mean come on, this is no Hyundai.
Jeffrey Williams GM's still got time to iron out the kinks so I don't mind that much, but strangling the LT4 so it has the lifespan of a family hatchback is beyond stupid to me. Especially on the Z07 package Z06. Vengeance racing was able to get 660hp/663tq at the wheels with a few minor changes to the LT4.
Or there could be issues with this specific car, who knows honestly. I can't wait for MT to take the Z06 to Laguna Seca though.

The retest was because gm was so butthurt they got beat by the underdog NISMO and to save their pride made up so lie about an alignment issue just so they can tweak it to fit the track. ya the GT-R used to be the most amazing because of its price to preformance ratio. $60,000 and hand built everything, attention to to detail was amazing for price as well.. now starting prices are $110,000 but i think the 2017 even at $110,000 is insane value for money they really hoping power even on base model to old Nismo edition specs. and people thinking Vette is better value, it really isn't, I priced one out myself and they nickle and dime you everywhere. like buying a German car, everything costs extra.. everything.. can't ever buy just a base model, never it will atleast have one extra to jack up its price so they can haggle.
the GT-R has set feature sets. no nickle and diming.
base model is their luxury premium model.. nice comfy seats that hug you in corners, you get 4 seats infact, nice Bose audio system, leather all around, great amount of sound deadening, so pretty surprising how fast it really is once u get used to it quietness, and slightly more compliant suspension, nice large touch interface, well spec'd and trimmed.
then Nismo Edition, which all of the same, plus more power, more exhaust, more rear wing, more track tuning and more aggressive awd system.
then black/track edition, this strips out bunch of luxuries, adds even more power, more exhaust, and even more aggressive tuning.
and if your really soft in the head or have more money than possibly know what to do with and donating and helping humanity seems unappealing ....
then have theres the Alpha editions GT-Rs.
these are black edition GT-Rs with special under the hood tuning.

Here on the old continent (Europe) they are about the same price. And the Vette (and I love it, the new ones are great), is VERY expensive to own due to the high engine capacity. The vette's engine makes in Belgium 3600€/Year in road tax. The GTR is only 1200€/Year. And gasoline costs 1,5€/liter = 5,6$ US / gallon.
I had a GTR R35, drove it in terrential rain, snow, in the summer on the Nurburgring, at Spa ... I ferried people with their luggage to the airport (4 usable seats and very big boot).
So if our tax system would change again (currently I would pay 19500€/Year in tax on a GTR/Vette), I'll get a new one. They are great daily drivers (but very hard). Or ... a new C7 automatic. :-)

I've hear there has been trouble with the new LT1 engine, I'll bet if they put it on the dyno it's not making 650 horse. Wing or no wing with lighter weight more power and stickier tires it should be leaving the Nissan in the straights.

DAK454 People have already dyno'd the Z06 it makes 650 hp and torque. It's most likely the ECU pulling power. Also the problems with the LT1 have been fixed and the Z06 uses an LT4.

So Motor trend just tested the regular ZL-1 here and they got 1:25.87 tire pressure adjustments. I can't wait until they lap the 1LE variation of the ZL-1. It's going to be so funny when it beats it's big brother the Z06 on the track.

why didnt they use an automatic with the zo6? its 2.9 to 60mph and the 1/4 mile time is like 10.9 not 11.4. how could you get 3.3 0-60mph when it was 3.1 with manual 2.9 with automatic. quarter mile manual is 11.1 with auto its 10.9. only .2 seconds difference not much but enough to matter.
MT did ask for a auto. GM couldn't provide 1 in time.

thisguy177 From what I've read auto is the better overall package. MT had a mag deadline to meet. GM pretty much gave MT what was available. They should've told them NO. We are working on some issues with the cars. Model in video was a early prototype brought up to spec.Not sure how it was used in development. Results show car had some issues to work out.

Look up 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Track Retest - Motor Trend. The manual Z06 ran a 1:25.00 and the automatic a 1:25.76 to the NISMO’s 1:25.70. The rear suspension was out of alignment during the first test. So the manual is ever so slightly faster and the automatic is practically identical to the NISMO.
They didn't just change the alignment, Chevy also added an aftermarket suspension calibration that is not available on the stock car.

You see, even the ZO6 here has momentary pauses when going through a corner; this is done to give the driver a break & enjoy the ride at the cost of decreased mid corner altitude & manuverability.
The GTR does away with these pauses, so even if a car has one stronger G reading like the Vette; a single stronger G cannot match multiple ones only slightly weaker in comparison.
That's precisely what the GTR accomplishes.
As for how the GTR accomplishes this, that's in the realm of sensitivity & wonder to the Nissan engineer's.
The only problem I have with it is the tyres, less grippy tyres do make 4 wheel steer easier; but the Vette's tyres would completely change it & take it to another level.
I assume that Nissan made the GTR into a G generating machine to aid stability, why not equip it with tyres that do this much better than the current stock ones if that was there approach?
Good thing owner's are doing this anyway to see the difference.

Since the Z06's rear end was just out of alignment, it was neither "worked" nor "broken". When they set the rear suspension back to factory spec, it was faster than the GT-R. Just like it has been on every other track.

The softened track mode damping via ECM is a $350 suspension upgrade for that model Corvette, it doesn't come set up like that from the factory.

plus this GTR resembles next to nothing from the 1st one back in 2007. this is completely reworked from the engine internals to the shock set up to the chassis rigidity. other than interior or exterior its completely different.

To all you GTR fan boys.... the gtr wasn't developed any better or worse than the Z06. The reason the Z06 lost the track battle is the same reason the Zr1 beat the viper gts at Laguna Seca...driver confidence. The Gtr's 4wd system allows you to be more confident, relaxed, and less strained on not how much throttle to give it out of the corners but, when and how much earlier can I give this thing full throttle. 4wd give you more traction, more traction means a more confident driver, which equal up to faster lap time. The end.
Dont get me wrong I dont hate the Gtr I just hate the fan boys that try to make it seem like Nissan engineered their car soooo much better than GM did the Corvette. Trust and believe if you disable that front axel on the gtr it would be a different ballgame. Both cars are the best in their individual drive trane layout.

In this case on paper corvette has all the edges - it has more power, more torque, a lot less weight, way better brakws, way better tires. Basically all the simple understandable things are better.

Well at least at thos particular track. Now somewhere like the N-ring the vette would just power buy the gtr with its long high speed sweepers and straights. The vette, with a softer suspension setting cause the ring is bumpier than hell, would be rock solid stsble with tge stage 3 aero kit. Not to say this track is small but it was the right size and the right amount of corners for the gtr to blast out of each one. Thats the real beauty of Awd. Lol no pun intended.

CCZ Z06 tested was over 100k. There are no do overs. Nismo won fair and square. You can't take a test, lose, then make a number of changes and run a dozen or so laps to get a better time.

Proof from MotoTrend: "The real reason the Z06 was slower was because Chevrolet gave us a car with the rear suspension out of alignment. It was supposed to be running 0 degrees of rear caster. Instead, it was running positive 2 degrees. This made the rear dampers less effective at controlling the rear suspension and as a result made it more difficult for the Z06 to put power down. This is exactly what Randy Pobst complained about during our test."

In real life it comes down to driver. At the track I see way more Vette drivers pushing their cars then GTR drivers. The confidence is key. Even though the GTR is more stable around the track. It lacks personality. And that’s why so many GTR owners don’t connect well with their cars.

Domination was shorted lived. Z06 did have issue in rear. Driver in video is clearly having difficulties with it. GM came out to Willow like I knew they would. Many thought all was set in stone after these results.
After retest Z06 was over 2 secs faster then first tested. New time is 1:25.00.

+MrChow408 I agree, sure, it may have been slightly faster in the 1/4 mile than the z06, but the vette looks better, sounds better, performs better on the track, costs 1/2 as much, and manages to do all that speed with a manual transmission AND rear wheel drive, both of which make it more fun than the GT-R.

The thing is the Corvette will bounce back and I hope they do, it will just spur others on, to make their cars better. I just hope they don't rely on the big sticky tires like on the 2012 ZR1/Z06 had, or the MPSC ZP tires, for the next update! Because you cannot use them daily! No matter the BS they feed you about semi slick tires! Great on a track no so on the road, and that's where you are going to be using your beloved 100K car!
The GTR did well here! Simply it will probably get beat on the Laguna Seca! (this version is a little different to the pre-production one they tested last year).

There is a stg 1 package with SS tires. Someone posted similar Z06 on winter tires. The Cup2 are for track performance. On the street good luck with them in damp conditions.

You'd be surprised if you looked an Nurburgring track times then as a $40,000 z28 is only like 2 seconds slower than a Porsche 911 GT3 that costs about $100,000 more. You know, because american cars can't handle.... oh did I mention the corvettes from the last 10 years corner better, or a mustang GT350R, etc, etc.
