    So far, for pistol, I've only reloaded 45 acp. I always run my reloads thru a case gauge just as a final sanity check. It assures your reloads will fit a SAAMI chamber. When I bought brass and bullets for my new 10mm I also bought, you guessed it, a 10mm case gauge.

    Thank you so much for posting this! Very informative and I love what you said about upgrading to the 24lb recoil spring for the hotter 10mm loads. I am an avid rifle reloader; however, I have never reloaded for 10mm. I have the exact RCBS 40/10mm does that you have and this video was priceless for getting me started! I have a Rock Island 1911 10mm with a double stack 16 round magazine so it is a 16+1 set-up. Again, thank you sir-you video was PERFECT! Please keep them coming. Thanks

    Hey Ed,
    Nice to see a new reloading video, youtube scared a lot of people from making them.
    I especially like this 10mm video, that round is the wifes favorite to shoot, and I reload to save money.
    I just got into big bore rifles, the first was the .458 SOCOM then .50 Beowulf and just got the .450 BUSHMASTER, a good 3 months, those .458 SOCOM rounds are like 3.00 each, in my shop, I'm at about .50, can't beat reloading.

    Hello. I’m a new subscriber and I really enjoyed this video. I have my reloading set up that is coming in the mail tomorrow. One of the weapons that I want to reload for is my Glock 29. So the info that you shared here is very helpful. I have a question for you. When does case trimming come into play? I have some brand new .223 rounds that are coming in. Do brand new cases need to be trimmed? Or is this something that should be checked on a case by case basis? I have heard that rifle cartridges typically need to be trimmed but not so much so with pistol cartridges because pistol cartridges are full length and without a shoulder. Is this true? Sorry for all the dumb questions but I’m a noobie to all this and just learning. Thank you.

    • @biged7175

      Yes that is correct bottle neck cartridges need to be trimmed more frequently than straight wall cases.

  • @yartp
    @yartp 4 года назад

    If you told me the Kimber choked on those loads, it wouldn't surprise me. Nor would it if you told me it caused the front sight to break off. That same loading (though my bullet was an 180 fmj) yielded me those results early on.
    I mentioned on your previous video mine would not feed ammo >1.250". As of yesterday and almost 2,000 rounds later, it'll feed my hand loads at 1.260" even in the factory mag. I've put in a 22# spring and had Kimber install a traditional front white dot sight being it doesn't appear as fragile. Also, I've cut back a little on the charge. For me that meant going from 1327fps to just under 1300. It shouldn't take this much effort to get it running but it was a heck of a deal on a solid 1911 10MM. I suspect its ramped, fully supported barrel doesn't aid in feeding. I am amazed at how well it minimizes brass expansion even with max loads.

    • @biged7175
      @biged7175  4 года назад +1

      I'm going to work on it today, i've got a wolf 24lbs spring and a Wilson GI guide rod with flat wire spring i'm gonna try both.

    • @yartp
      @yartp 4 года назад

      Hope that means we'll being seeing a review soon.
      For me, I don't feel the 22# spring affected/increased the reliability, it just minimized the slide from slamming back so hard. I have slowed down my flagship 180fmj load down to 1250fps which seems to be a good match. I'm more to blame a tight extractor for the 3 point jams it was initially plagued with. But now when I shoot .40 180 coated, they have a tendency to "jump the extractor" leaving the spent brass in the chamber. This appears to be more of a problem when using a fast powder and not so much with something like Unique, 231 or similar. Looking forward to seeing how it goes for you.

      @@biged7175 when you say "reliable", what malfunctions are you having? I have 2 Kimbers, 45acp and a 10mm. The 45 I've had for many years and ran good out of the box... except for magazine problems which are a known issue for the supplied mags, and easily remedied with Wilson's. I also experimented with a Wolf spring pack and found what I consider the perfect weight because it lines back up to target perfectly after cycling.
      My 10mm I've had about 6 months. Ordered Wilson mags immediately but I did use the supplied mags while waiting for their arrival. The malfunction, other than mag related, was the rounds not going fully in to battery. At least 1 or 2 rounds per mag. With the Wilson's I still get 1 or 2, but it is during 4 mags, so a huge improvement. So like you, I will be playing with spring weights to try to achieve full function.
      I think the issue with the Kimbers are that they are "semi custom". A high grade, tight toleranced 1911. But they do not spend the extra time tuning them. The other issue is 10mm. It is impossible for them to tune them appropriately for the huge variety of 10mm loadings, between bullet weights and power. Like you, I am sticking to loading 1 cartridge for mine. It will make tuning the pistol much easier. They would make everyone's life simpler if they told you what they were set up for to start, and recommendations for spring weights for various loads.
      I also have a Ruger gp100 match champion in 10mm. That one is literally a blast to shoot.

      Glock 20 or Glock 29 will get you a lot closer to 100% reliable. Never tried a Glock Model 40 yet, but they are probably as reliable as 29 and 20. This reliability is with OEM factory springs and 425 to 776 ft-lbs for the cartridge ratings.

      @ChristopherKnN 4 года назад +1

      Any semi auto or lever action ammo needs to be crimped. It is actually just good general practice to crimp all ammo. If the bullet happens to get knocked back in the case it significantly increases pressure of the round and can be extremely unsafe, potentially causing a catastrophic failure of your firearm. The only rounds that are "ok" not to crimp are those to be used in revolvers.

    • @biged7175
      @biged7175  4 года назад +1

      @@ChristopherKnN Chris please don't spread faulty information on my channel. The only rounds ok to not crimp are to be used in bolt guns. Revolvers probably need the strongest crimp of them all since they can shoot very powerful rounds in a light package. It's called jumping the crimp and can lock a revolver up rendering it useless. I own many revolvers, bolt guns, levers and semi's. I have videos covering all this. I'm guessing you've never reloaded and are just parroting misinformation.

    • @ChristopherKnN

      @@biged7175 incorrect. I've been reloading for a long time. I crimp everything. The only time it is safe to fire a bolt gun with no crimp is single loading, no loaded magazine. The reason why I said "ok" in a revolver is because a revolver is less likely to have a catastrophic failure.

      @@biged7175 yeah beyond that I've actually given up on the 10mm I'm consolidating my clamberings to just the most basic (9mm, 45acp, 5.56, 22 LR, 762x39) ect. Maybe in some years once I've reached where I need to be with the aforementioned calibers I'll venture out again with another 10mm and some others I'm interested in like 45-70, 5.45x39, 7.62 tokarev, 8mm Mauser, 9x21 there's this S&W Scandium frame 44 I like alot too you know shit like that. Maybe one day

      @@beachdrugpanda Good stuff Beach, I've shot the S&W I think its the 327 or 329 scandium frame 44 Mag. Great gun to carry for bear protection but zero fun to shoot hurts like hell. I'm also in the future in the market for a new 10mm 1911.

      @@biged7175 yeah I held it at the store I think you're right its 329 I just dont know if I can completely get on board with the 1911 format personally I traded a rifle for a ria double stack 9mm and it shoots better than any other 9mm I have I literally kept a mag in a fist sized hole at 25 yards but never the less this gun too will be soon gone I believe I really need another rifle more than another handgun. My minds made up on a robinson arms xcr-L
