- Snapper fishing off the rocks in Sydney Australia can be a more difficult gig compared to areas away from the big smoke. But there can be some awesome snapper fishing in the heavily populated city.
In this video I'm using my Alvey set up. When your locked into a sizeable fish that is capable of taking line, you have to palming the spool on plain model Alvey is something you should experience.
I'm just on the rocks, having some fun, loving the adrenaline rush of just being there with all of the experiences in this hostile environment where all of your senses are heightened. Hope you enjoy this video.

Outfit:
• Rods- Wilson MT7144 12 foot two piece. Alvey Rock and Beach Special 62 two piece 7kg.
• Reels- Alvey 650S Stealth. Alvey 650B
• Line- J-Thread Nylon 20lb or Tortue 8 to 10kg IGFA (note that Tortue breaks under the line strain on the spool)
• Sinkers- 00 to 4 ball.
• Hooks- 2/0 to 4/0 92554 or 92247.

Fantastic stuff Alex. I’ve been on several rock and beach fishing charters with Alex and I highly recommend a charter with Alex. He has a wealth of knowledge on; locations, all fish species, when to fish and for what species, different fishing methods…… His enjoyment of fishing in infectious.

Alvey reels and the non drag model I use. The drag is using your fingers or palm of your hand on the side of the spool when a large enough fish need to be given line. You can increase or decrease pressure according to how much drag you need to apply. More complex but a lot of fun and challenging. Thanks heaps for watching mate 😎👍

Hey mate just enjoying it as much as I can. Past my mid 50s so limited years left for the hard to get to rock spots. Your a fair dinkum angler yourself. Just love being there in the salt air, the adrenaline, the sights, the great people you meet are just some of the positive things about our sport. .

Mate thanks heaps for liking the video ,very much appreciated. Sometimes I keep those bigger reds but this one was in food condition. I put it in a ‘recovery pond’ and felt comp to release it. The other two more than enough for a feed👍

one thing worked really good for me with tennis elbow was hold a weight stretch your arm out and move your wrist up and down many times as you can and do it a few times a day

@@chepachii yeah mate i was in alot of pain and my thinking was with tennis elbow was to rest the arm but a doctor i went to said no do that exercise and 15 years later it has come back a couple of times but mild and i just repeat that exercise for a few days and goes away good luck hope it helps.

The lower light periods are best. Being a deeper water species they will venture in closer off the rocks to feed during these periods.

Cracking vids mate what hook set up you using please running sinker , patanoska leader hook size and sinker size mate I go fishing off the rocks and snag at least 10 times a session :(

Hey mate yes in this video I used half to three quarter pillies. Also like using squid and large prawns amongst some of the baits I use.
Another cracka Alex!! What’s the trick to stopping the mono from twisting on the Alvey’s ? Mine do my head in and I’m always cutting off massive lengths of line after a session or two

I get them before and after a big blow. There are times they are in good numbers inshore so a sharp barometric drop or a bug blow not needed.

Yes nice reds on the outing. Great sports fish on the lighter gear
when i chase reds off the rocks i lock the drag up try and make sure his head is turned right away. even then the real big ones will bust you up.

Yes have some footage of plastics snapper and kings but crap footage. Can be hard to get the right footage. Most vids don’t make it.
