I hooked up to marlin on the opposite side of where you're at a few years ago. I dropped a pilly on a set of gang hooks about 150m out in some reef with my drone looking for a spanish, but hooked up to a small black. Hooked up to a small black and watching it tail walking while you're on the beach is MENTAL!
Remoras and Cobia are very closely related, which helps explains your initial species misdiagnosis... Cobia hang around with sharks like Remoras do, so I imagine at some stage in their evolutionary past, some branched off to specialize in sucking onto larger fish, to save energy by catching a ride and to eat scraps & parasites from their hosts, thus creating a new species. Either that or they both share a common ancestor.
Ideally, your frames should cover as much of the area surrounding your eyes as possible. That’s because sun rays can enter from the sides, bottom, and top too, and not just from straight ahead. Remember, harmful sunlight reflects off the ocean and white sand - and it can hit your face from any angle.The pupils will naturally dilate when someone wears sunglasses to allow more light into the eyes. If the frame is not large enough, the UV light will get around the edges of the lens and have an easier time entering the eye when the pupil is dilated and damaging the eye. cheers

I’ve seen people perch themselves atop a lightweight fiberglass ladder out in the water to get higher in an effort spot fish......of course, you do have a boat, but might be an option if you were land based and didn’t have a super long walk in to your spot.

Living in Key Largo and fishing and spearfishing offshore throughout the Florida Keys I've seen big sharks and plenty of Remoras but that had to be the biggest damn Remora I've ever seen. Even crazier still would be trying to catch Marlin from the beaches. Oz is definitely a bizarre place.

lost my brand new daiwa bg at the jetties yesterday, it was on this rod with a 50 pound weight capacity, had it in a rod holder on our wagon, that rod bent insanely far and it broke the rod holder and my bg went flying in the water. i didnt even catch anything with it yet.
