- I started my job as a motocross journalist in 1990 at Cycle News, and I can honestly say that since then, I have probably ridden every mainstream production motocross bike made. If you figure that in the "old days," we did 125, 250, plus the occasional 500 shootout each year, then factor in the "transition" years when we had to do 125, 250, 250F, and 450F shootouts, and add in the current "Factory Edition" shootouts...this year's 2025 450 Shootout could be my 60th comparison test! A couple of weeks before our big comparison test, I had a big endo at a race when I landed on another rider's bike and absolutely blew out my groin muscle. While therapists said that cycling would help rehabilitate my leg, it didn't help as much as I'd hoped and I basically couldn't turn right well on any of the motorcycles. Made it through the day though...
Listening to your stories about you Dad made me think of my Dad and all the great times we had at the track. Thanks for sharing Donn.
Great stories Donn. I remember when you wrote about your Dad just after he passed away. I didn't realize it was back in 2000, wow time flies. I'm happy he's back on the trails he loved, best!

By the time we get together for back to back testing most of us have spent a lot of time on all the bikes. I spent more time on the honda as I hadn’t ridden it before. I’d say 20 - 30’min with each bike is the norm. It’s a long day

Thought this was a 450 shootout, don’t think I heard any feedback or conclusions except you liked the Yamaha mapping. And there was more MB footage than Moto. Don’t like to be a hater, but what a waste of my time.

It was an installment of the LOTW blog. Life.On.Two.Wheels. It included the BTS of the shootout but it's not specifically the shootout episode. And MB are definitely 2 wheels. Sorry man you made the decision to watch it through. If you think it was a waste of your time then that's kinda on you.
