If you’re here as someone with a Bachelor of Arts degree wishing to switch to Software Engineering, this isn’t for you.
She has a degree in Electrical Engineering which in my own experience as a Software Engineer (and also hires Software Engineers), this is one of the MOST COMMON degrees you’ll find.
If you wish to switch to IT from whatever field you’re in, here’s what you can do:
    1) look for the Information Systems sectors of companies in your industry
    - say if you’re in a bank, find some contact who develops those in-house apps/tool you use
    2) start as a Business Analyst / QA tester
    - we software engineers, love working with people who are familiar with the user perspective - you can use this as your point of entry without development knowledge right away

Yeah I have an art pedagogics BA and doing masters in sociology switching to front-end web dev. So maybe the arts part can help but I don't think it helps a lot :') I would love to start as a QA tester or in customer support

So happy I came across your channel. Very insightful. I am also an EE graduate considering SWE and found your channel searching for videos on this type of career change. I worked at a fortune 500 company in the downstream energy industry as a graduate engineer for approx 2 years and quickly realized that the energy sector was not as technical and design-oriented as I had hoped. At least your internship was software related!
My capstone final year project was in Machine Learning, and I had to develop a Biometric Passcode using facial and speech recognition :).Thoroughly enjoyed it! Yet at that company, I felt so alienated as the technology studied was based on the plant assets and more conservative, reliable solutions. My role was more of a project manager anyway, with my technical interests only being satisfied with reading reports on assets, field walks and especially spending time with the technicians.
Back at my university, we had some programming courses that I had always enjoyed, hence my present inclination for CS. My only issue is I feel as if I need to get some ROI on my EE degree :(.
Anyway, subscribed! :). One burning question though: how many months of self-learning and interview prep did you take before applying around for the 3 months?

BELIEVE ME IN ORDER TO MAKE TRANSITION FROM ELECTRICAL TO SOFTWARE YOU NEED TO BE VERY VERY ORGANIZED, PLANNED, AND FIND 25 HOURS IN A DAY.... you also need to keep doing competitive programming too... although since it was an IIT hence it was not difficult to find the internships.

I currently study electronics engineerings. I was given the opportunity to apply for a second major. Right now I'm stuck between electrical and software engineering. I want to focus on programming skills, that's why I've considered software to be the best option. However, I think electrical engineering could give some stronger foundations on physical and mathematical skills that could be valuable later. Could someone give me some advice?

One question, do you miss the math and physics stuff that you learned as an engineer but will never use here. My friend who made the jump has forgotten all the math he learned. He is kind of sad.

I have a management degree and I want to change my career path because my degree not worth it anymore. I start learning python coz it's easy to understand. As a fresh learner, your story gives me strength. cheer for that. But I want to ask one question
. After python language do we learn more language programs or after python, we can enter the programming world?

Im a highscool graduate, and there's no computer science degree being offered in our place. So by following your steps and tips, can I be a software engineer??

UCSD EE majors are the most respected people. EE courses at UCSD are the worst and hard to get a good grade at. I'm a CSE major at UCSD

You majored in EE means you are smart. You took a lot of math and physics classes which are need in CS as well. This means it wasn't hard for you to learn to program.

CS is more about logic and problem solving than straight math.

Did the embedded software course helped you as a software engineer ? I’m studying embedded systems in a French college but I’m also interested in web dev so I wonder if I should stay in embedded software and learn by myself the langages needed for web dev or if I should take other courses that’ll allow me to be a front end dev ? Maybe you could help me about this :)

I’m going into high school and we have something called PLTW ( Project Lead the Way) there are three different choices you can pick from and I’m super interested into becoming a software engineer, what i’m confused about is which one I should take to become one, computer science or engineer?

Wow, i’m studying electrical engineering but i want to work with code, but i still don’t know if i will drop my actual course to change to cs

You can still learn coding being an EE. I graduate next month with an Electrical and Computer Engineer degree. Coding is definitely my favorite. Also being an EE, your school might FPGA courses. I recommend looking into that.

I'm also an electrical engineering fresh graduate and thinking of taking a bootcamp in web development and eventually making it my career. But my question to you is: do you not feel like you wasted those 4yrs in EE? I know from researching and doing self-study in web development that you will not be able to use the things you learned in electrical engineering.
So im kinda in a limbo right now if i'm gonna "throw" my electrical engg degree for a web development job.
    Please help.
