Just to see FloMo where they are now warms my heart. I remember we didn’t even have a marching band when I got there in 2003. We only had a pep band and played at the basketball games. I love it
It was great that these HBCU’s showed up and showed out for the community, middle school and high school band drum lines that battled! It was a great event inside and out!
You do realize that Cookman and Famu have 2 different styles. Famu has always played traditional with a style called the Moeller technique definitely not an easy concept. All 3 schools did a great job 👏🏾
❤❤❤❤❤ I love the fact that FAMU has a heavy set white young man as the center snare this year!!!!! It shows the change in diversity that is to come over the next few generations!!!! Great video! BCU: Coming from a long tradition history I expected that level of precision from SI. Definitely clean, while playing nostalgic cadences Flo-mo: First time experiencing this drumline. I like the direction it going, some positive critiques, snares, clean it up…practice a slower BPM (y’all have great material) but what good it it to have complex rudi when it’s muddy? And also play “through the drum” I see fl-mo being a drumline that will have the ME AC on the lookout! Famu. Not a fan of their style. So I don’t have much to say. Their tenors are probably the cleanest thing I heard from them in a while. I’m impressed.
Okay, I say BCU took it, I don’t like the way he counts off though, kinda corps style, count off with just the snare only. I wished that NCAT(Cold Steel), Norfolk, and Benedict drumlines could’ve been, would’ve been too tough to judge then.
Now Terrance I know you went to cookman but let’s be real you can’t murder no one playing warm ups (6-8 groove) it’s a battle if the book ain’t strong say so …. I’m just saying
I think it’s the richness of the grooves that fam has over anyone. Cookman has always been tight & very refined. But they grooves taste store bought. Famu’s taste like soul food. ESPECIALLY IN PERSON. If I closed my eyes & just listened. One always wins the rhythm battle & the other always wins the execution battle..

Noooo buddy.... Bcu use more hybrid rudimentary beats than Famu.. Famu does have a nice groove, just need to work on their snares. There were areas where they sounded dirty..
Is that white guy in front famu section leader? He is doing a great job if so. Fmu is going pass famu and bcu in a couple years. Love that band progression.
No offense…but this is the first time cookmans book has felt outdated to me. Also, despite being good cadences, they aren’t the best battle material. I’ll give BCU the slight edge over fam because of the execution. But if FAMU had less dirt ot would be a different story.

FMU: Cleanest snares BCU: Best bass drum line ( really nice splits) (surprised and about damn time). FAMU: Really great solo's across the line. Also, each school's quint/sextuplet was really good as well . Now, FAMU snares... y'all can't play the hybrids clean and trash the 9 stroke rolls 🤦🏿♂️ ( I love the material though!). BCU got swagg. The only thing I takeaway from FAMU is they Zs gotta be bigger than them 16s they swinging. Give ‘em some 20, 21s. So they can Swang them thangs. Ain’t nun like some clean dubs.
