    Great video. However, when it comes to Thumb ABduction, you have to specify *RADIAL ABDUCTION* (which you did not show at all) from *PALMAR ABDUCTION* (which you showed). The radial abduction is in the same plane as the abduction of the other four fingers and also the same plane as abducting the entire arm away from the body.

      Radial Abduction: coronal plane
      Palmar Abduction: sagittal plane

      Radial abduction and extension are same or i am confused?

    • @adeboyegrillo3408
      @adeboyegrillo3408 Год назад +7

      @@sachinchauhan5853 when talking about the thumb, radial abduction looks a lot like extension but the joints involved are different.
      Radial abduction occurs closer to the wrist/radius. It occurs at the carpometacarpal joint.
      Extension on the other hand refers to unfolding your thumb if it was tucked under the other fingers.
      It occurs farther from the wrist/radius.
      It occurs at the interphalangial joints and the metacarpophalangeal joint.
      I hope I haven't lost you.

    I think you could add that opposition is a combination movement including abduction at the MC joint and flexion of the MCP and IP joint

    You should note that opposition is generally done with a straight thumb coming across to a straight finger. Thumb pad meeting finger pad is the full form of opposition; thumb tip to finger tip is a structural/functionally weaker version of the same. Forgive me for being so bold!

    If you adduct to the point where the thumb moves away from the palmar plane in the dorsal direction, is it still adduction? (At least I’d think you are using the adductor muscle?)

    Whats the deal with thumbs? Everyones thumb is different, some bend back some go straight. But as i get older i feel like i can utilize less muscles in my hand, and that larger ones are taking over the smaller ones, like theres two ways i can move. One way thats gonna tie me up, one way thats gonna let everything move free. It must have something to do with your heart and circulation. I feel like somethings changed since i went from a teen to 22. Like im not growing, like im slowly receding

  • @Prtyh
    @Prtyh Год назад

    Depends what you read. According to AM4 moving the thumb laterally away from the hand is radial abduction and moving the thumb towards the palm is adduction. Also if you adduct the hip or shoulder, you are moving it away from the body not in front of the body. So really I am totally confused right now.

    Is there a name for the movement of an opposition type movement, (flexing at the base of the thumb), then extending the thumb back at the metacarpalpharangeal joint, and flexing at the IP? That’s how I hold my pen.

    • @vineshmanohar2060

      All the above mentioned movements are with respect to the Carpometacarpal joint of the thumb! What ur saying is flexion of the Interphalyngeal joint of the thumb. Both are different movements at different joints.
