Great video! The Asian market does get more fancier Zippos than we do in the States lately. Another perfect example of design copying are Zorro lighters. You know I like my Zorros too. A Zorro solid copper is so much cheaper than a Zippo one. Plus you can get one with a copper insert🙂. Even those heavier Zorros with the machined hinge are available in copper. Been thinking of getting one of those.
I will say this. A great thing about Zippo inserts being ripped off by Chinese factories is that it makes getting parts for them incredibly easy. I was able to order a new flint wheel and install it myself, in about a week, instead of waiting 3-6 weeks for the Zippo repair clinic to fix it for me. Personally, I really don’t care if the parts come from China. I just to be able to get my lighter functioning again in a reasonable amount of time.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors If Zippo sold replacement parts I’d buy from them instead. But they don’t so I buy parts from China. I really have no choice. 🤷♂️
Zippo is too expensive nowadays. It's like buying jewellery but brass. About Zippo insert, why can't Zippo create their own dual flame (yellow and blue 2 in 1) insert? It is what people need. btw, people from China love Zippo only because it is "Made in USA", if Zippo changed that sales would go the other way around. China has a city manufacturing just lighters alone and all types of lighters. They have all kinds of lighters to supply the entire world (and doing so).
I have seen in my other interests where top-quality companies move their production to Asia and quality suffers. And you are correct the next thing you know the product is being copied and undersold. The Asians do it to their own companies. They will certainly do it to Zippo.
Most of the Armor Zippos with any kind of engravings/inlays on the case are listed at about $120-140 US on eBay, is that a ripoff or about the going rate now? When you can get a regular Armor Zippo for $20-30 it's pretty hard to justify the massive price increase
@Zippofanatic77outdoors i really like this one called "King II/King2" apparently it's a Japan exclusive from what I can gather, but $140 for a lighter is a lot to spend
@@honeyblunt5150 yeah I hear ya bro. I’m at the point in my collection where I will never buy another one. There’s nothing I need or want. Over 100$ for a lighter is insane. Especially since they sell the same lighter for 15$ without any of the fancy stuff attached
That's why I will never buy those inserts not made in USA. I also worry that they are dangerous. That's why I stick with the good old fashioned insert made in the USA. Anyways I always preferred the regular zippo inserts over others. Having to hold down a button down for fire is far from my preference. Plus i dont like how very noisy jet flames are, regular inserts are more subtle, still windproof enough and no need to hold down a button or lever. Plus if broken (regular inserts granted i never had one fail me, i tried thunderbird jet flame insert and that one failed), i can just simply buy the components like wicks, flint, cotton, hinges etc unlike if one of those newer inserts failed then your likely to buy another new insert cuz you really cant take them apart by piece unlike the regs. Lol the only insert i bought thats an exception is the bit screwdrivers insert but i dont have to worry about that becoming hazardous if a mechanism fails. I'll take the little extra maintenance of the regular ones, besides for me its quite theraputic to change wick, flint and add more fuel.
I would assume many Asian consumers, are after the more western style artwork on the lighters. So I would not be too concerned about the artwork becoming too over saturated with Asian art. The inserts need to be made in the US for sure. That said, they are really Zippos only hope here. Less ppl are smoking in the US as vaping is really taking over. They need to advertise and push the new inserts way more. The new generation doesn't wanna deal with wicks and cotton and lighter fluid taste, that's the cold truth. That's the only path I see that'll help US sales anyway.
