In Invincible after Rex Splode dies saving his entire team against one of Invincible’s Variants during the Invincible War, we see as every hero in the community comes together to honor him at his funeral with Robot taking the podium first. He says that he and rex didn’t always get along, and infact he was always pushing his buttons which would be something he would’ve laughed at if he were here. Robot says he didn’t like Rex at first, but he ALWAYS idolized him because of how confident he was, and how Rex was everything he wanted to be but now that he’s gone he’ll miss him more than he’s even able to express, and as a way of keeping Rex with them, Robot says that from now he’ll be taking on Rex’s name for his own, so that atleast in that small way, Rex can always be by his side. Now knowing some future events of the series this comes across a little fake by Robot but we DO see Rudy crying off to the side and since he’s the one telepathically controlling the Robot Drone infront of everyone we do know that he’s genuinely very sad about the death of Rex here in this moment, no matter how much it actually benefits him in the end. From here the funeral takes a turn when Atom Eve takes the stand and tries to start giving a speech, however all she can say was Rex was her first… everything.. As she breaks down into tears, and this funeral continues.

I think you misunderstood robot. Rex's death is one of the catalyst that drove him into becoming a dictator. He didnt want anyone to suffer and the best way he can think of is by force.
That and the centuries he spent as a slave and then ruler of a planet

Ehhhhh yes and no. I get what you’re saying and I’m inclined to agree, but when Rex kills *redacted* and takes over he tells Monster Girl that he doesn’t have emotions and has been faking it the whole time. However I haven’t read that moment in a while so I could also be misremembering the dialogue a bit.
I think it was him living like a thousand years while being both a slave and the ruler.

What im saying is they would need to change a buncha shit to keep him alive past the angstrom arc pt2. @@coolusername9077it’s not that he doesn’t respect the original story but now that he has finished the comic series, he wants to use the animated series to make the changes he would have wanted to do in the comic series. (if he knew ahead of time how the entire story was going to pan out). I get wanting them to copy the comics 1 to 1 but I try to look at it like I’m getting a slightly different story with new surprises.

Deadass, this part of the comic threw me off so much haha I was like “deadass?? This mfs not even in the ground and you’re taking his name??” By the end of the series it made much more sense though. I really like to think that this was foreshadowing, but honestly with some of the other crap that happens in the series sometimes I wonder if the writers were even human lol.

Robot is such a f^cking narcissist. Rex hated him stealing his DNA, he absolutely would have hated him stealing his name.
I hate how everyone just goes along with it too. No one ever calls him out on it, and from then on, the name ‘Rex’ is synonymous with ‘Evil Tyrant’ instead of ‘Friend who gave his life to save us’. (Meaning the original Rex pretty much just gets forgotten)

To make it clear. What happens with robot eventually doesnt make this scene any less true, or any form of manipulation.
Its clear in the narrative what became of robot was DUE to continual strings of emotional and mental turmoil he was never prepaired to deal with in his life, and instead of facing it or getting help decided to turn away and become more of a machine than he had ever beein while stuck in the pod.
There was a time Rudi truly did want to be human. It just didnt stay like that in the end.

So I think it’s safe to assume that it was Rudy and not Rex who was in the Robot suit in the season 2 episode 8. Eve called him Rex and now we know why.
