I have an easy fix for putting your pedal back together, before you take it apart just compress the pedal about half way down and then drill a small hole about 2mm right through the 2 pieces of the piston and insert something like a 2mm allen key right through and it keeps it together already compressed so you can just undo the bold and lift it out as one.

Very good video thank you! You finally make me take the decision to buy the 3Drap mod. The installation is not so complicated with your instructions so great job. I have just one advice for the "beginners" that doesn't have a fixed simracing rig like me (I own the Playseat Challenge). Based on your experience, I purchased the Formula version still keeping the G29 original spring: I find this WAY too stiff! The Playseat is lifting off when I stomp on the brake to get to 100%😂 Also, as I am playing with bare foots (only socks), my foot it's kinda hurting after little bit. I regret not having purchased the GT version (or maybe the Console one). Is someone using Playseat Challenge and any of 3Drap mod? What 3Drap version do you suggest?
@MatthewBS92 That is a really good point. The formula spring/elastomer combo is VERY stiff, and I noticed that I was pushing back in the PSC, too. It took a ton of tweeking, but I was able to find a happy medium with braking sensitivity in GHub. If you are on console and don't have a solid rig, I agree that the GT Elastomer is the better option. Thank you for highlighting this point!
I have a playseat rig. Just bought the hard kit. Just affraid the stiffness will be too hard and mess my rig. Would it had been better to buy the medium option? I think 3drap changed the product and made an upgrade. Hope it works ok. Thanks!
@DaniloGuic it won't be too stiff. I ran this upgrade on my Playseat for a long time and had no issues at all with it being too stiff. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
I play Nascar Heat 5 on steam and I also play Raceroom on steam. I have the same pedals as you but i use the clutch pedal as my brake pedal. I like that there's more pedal travel and just feels more comfortable natural on my feet. My question is if i can use the brake mod on the clutch pedal and if it would make braking more consistent?
Hi. I just finished swapping out my pedal set brake potentiometer to one from Axs Sim. I had that pedal flicker issue and cleaning the stock potentiometer didn't completely fix it. I found that Axs Sim makes a closed potentiometer and bought two of those. The brake pedal is working great again which I am pleased with but I thought about looking into getting more realistic braking so here I am. This looks like a good solution, I am going to give it a go. Thanks for this walk through!
Unfortunately, no. In order to get that black portion off, you have to unscrew the bottom. The black portion is one large piece that is directly connected to the bottom.
Great vid 😃 I just took the plunge & bought my 1st steering wheel being this g29. Only thing that bothers me is exactly is the stock setup on braking. My question is, can anyone give me the length (from eye-to-eye) on this thing? Im thinking on using an alloy dampened shock from an rc with a stiff spring Tia

I know this is about a year on from the video being released so not a great chance you’ll reply but with the throttle Did u just switch the spring out with the Glodom (or whatever it’s called) higher tension spring or do something else. Plus your channel is amazing I’ve literally got my playseat challenge and my g29 because of ur reviews.
@Striked Shorts thanks! I'm glad my reviews are helping you make an informed decision! For the throttle, I just swapped the spring for a stiffer one. The extra resistance makes throttle management so much easier!
Great Video, can you talk about that softer mod that was instaled in the brake before you started, its harder than the stock rubber? any good points for it?
@Vítor Arbex thanks! The original rubber that is in the brake pedal is harder than normal rubber. It's really dense and when the brake is pressed, it does not feel natural. The original spring is soft, so the initial travel in the pedal is not progressive and hard to judge. With the rubber block being hard, there is a hard stop in the braking before the pedal is fully compressed. It makes judging braking distances and trail braking very difficult.
Happy I found this channel.. I'm going to purchase the kit for $10 off ebay and do the mod to brake, clutch and gas pedal I want my G29 to feel as real as possible..
@Jay Hova420 glad to hear that! Those upgrades will definitely make the G29 feel more realistic. I am speaking from experience. It would be nice to adjust the amount of travel in each pedal, but the stiffer springs and damper help tremendously!
Does the stiffer spring in throttle help throttle control and feel more like pressing gas in real car? When drifting corners I gotta use my big toe like SpongeBob in boating school to ease the throttle
@richmeier lol! Yes, the stiffer throttle spring makes a huge difference and feels more realistic! The added resistance makes it much easier to modulate the throttle vs the original weak spring that feels like an on/off switch.
Just bought a G920 and the brake pedal must off been designed by someone who hasn't ever used a brake pedal, the mods to correct cost about 10% of what I paid for the whole set up so I just set the clutch for left foot braking, if I would of known that the brake was useless I wouldn't of bought the gear shifter lol.
Lol! The brake is rough initially. Luckily modding the g29 and g920 are identical. Even just removing the rubber block gives the brake pedal a much better feel.
is the yellow thing stiffer or less stiff than the rubber block? my leg just hurts because i have to press too hard and I'm wondering if the yellow insert makes it better
@Viper TD it is less stiff and is intended to be used in conjunction with a spring (soft or stiff) to allow for more brake travel and still provide a simulated progressive stiffness while being depressed. So, your keg should not hurt nearly as much. You will be able to gage your braking better and have more travel. This will put less pressure on your leg.
Watched this video before I did my mod today and sure glad I did. Two tips (although Shaqdaddy's sounds best and I'd try that if I did another.) 1) No need to totally remove the clutch bolt. Just make the inside tip flush with the right "wall" to provide some room. 2) If you have a Dremel, use it to create rounded notches in the left side runner walls so the bolts can come out and go back in straight, rather than at all angle. Same for the Accelerator pedal. I Dremelled mine after I removed and the re-assembly was simple. Wish I'd have done it before removal. Great video! Thanks!
have converted my g29 pedals to hydraulic inverted, best thing reusing these crap pedals and making them into somewhat realistic feeling pressure based system
I'm slightly confused. Why would we want to make it even harder to press🤔. This new mod although it improves the progressive feel of the brakes, it looks like it makes it even harder to press the pedal to 100 percent. So isn't it going to be inconvenient for hard racing in Sims like ACC where we're having to mash the brakes very often? Or is it easier with this mod to press it to 100 percent than with the stock setup?
Since the fell is more progressive, it feels more like real car where it is light in the beginning and stiffer as you compress it. The advantage is that the Sims brakes calibrations can be very sensitive and small inputs can make the sim think you are slamming on the brakes. Making it a bit harder to press will helps to modulate how sensitive the brake feels. Even with assisting your brake pressure and sensitivity in the sim, the G29 feels to light and has a hard stop with the stock setup, preventing you from getting the full breaking potential. This mod allows you to unlock the full potential.
@@JCCollinsRacing I see...thanks for the reply. I think these mods are better suited if it's fixed on a rig rather than the floor so that we could use our force. I currently have mine placed against a wall (the back of my desk) but still, if I use all of my force to get to that 100% brake, it moves my desk slightly after a couple of laps 😅. Which is why I thought it would be inconvenient if it was even harder. Overall my braking is just not consistent with the stock setup. I saw some people just remove the stock rubber and presumably it makes it easier to press. But it may feel kinda off since Logitech has given a custom curve for the brake, intended to go along with the stock rubber. Any way we could program it to a linear curve would be nice.
@@vulcan1449 that is true that the mod works better when on a rig, but it still works really good if you are using something like the Playseat Challenge.
I used the same bushing insert for about a year and Im finding myself smashing the brake with no real control. Now im a better driver, I noticed the brake mod is my biggest issue. Im going to cut the bushing down about 50% and see if that helps. If not I will print up a new one with a lower shore value.
@@JCCollinsRacing The original was purchased. I have a spool of polyflex TPU95 I want to try with a lower infill. The purchased one looked like a 25-30% infill so I will try a 15% with the filament I have.
@TECHNOPLEX I'm glad that it helped! Modding the brake pedal makes the largest difference between the 3, in terms of faster lap times. The added resistance of the pedal helps to establish solid and repeatable muscle memory. How stiff do you think you want to make your pedals?
@Cesar Maidana yes. There is a small rubber block inside of the brake pedal that is supposed to act as a damper, but it does not do a good job of giving the brake a progressive feel. The pedal just has a hard stop. At time of recording this video, I could not locate the original block that I removed and that is why I did not show it. I apologize for any confusion.
@@JCCollinsRacing the two screws behind the pad on the peddle. Its a little bit of a pain putting the screws back in so use a flathead to leverage the spring tube back in place.
@Timoxa have you installed a stiffer spring with it? The damper may not be allowing the brake to travel the full distance. Originally, I had to redo putting the damper in the spring because it was getting kinked inside the spring. Also, ensure that you removed any black preload dampers that may or may not be inside the brake pedal. With the yellow damper in place, you will not need the black one.
Thank you for watching and thank you for your opinion! I can imagine that it feels better on a sturdy rig. If the pedals are rigidly secured, then it becomes easier to modulate the pedal with the stock hard rubber block installed.
@@raisin39 I would definitely recommend getting a more progressive damper similar to what I outlined in the video. It doesn't have to be that exact one, but something similar will really help the brake stiffness become more gradual as it is pressed. You will be able to judge your braking much easier with this.
@@JCCollinsRacing Thanks for leaving message about the breaks. I have another one.....one of the clamps jammed on the e G29. This clamp is tight won't lossen. I put wd40. I did a firmware up grade and that's when it got stuck. Thanks for your help.
@The Unsorry luckily there is no calibration needed. Since the pedals still technically measure braking force by distance traveled, each position of the pedal still gives the same reading. The spring and damper just gives you (the driver) a more realistic, progressive braking feel. You can still re-calibrate the pedals to your personal sensitivity and through each sim if you want. Trust me, you will not regret modding the brake pedal! 😁
@Lorant Benyak the spring dimensions in cm are, length 6.35 x diameter 2.54, in mm they are length 63.5 x diameter 25.4, and in inches length 2.5 x diameter 1.0. I hope this helps!
Good video, saved me some time taking to out to many screws out. I've got the g923, so the break pedal has a different spring to the G29, it's more progressive and actually feels pretty good out the box. I added a 6mm mod piece to the clutch and a 10mm mod piece to the accelerator pedal, feels much more natural to me. I also added some very thick tape where the pedals pivot and touch the bottom of the metal base, reduces that loud metal on metal banging sound when the pedal reaches 100% and returns quickly to 0% positions, it reduces it to more of a thud, still makes a noise, but not as irritating as stock.
@00Clive00 thank you! I did not think to add some tape as a buffer for the pedals, that is a great idea to keep the sound to a minimum. I heard that 923 had an upgraded brake spring, and glad to hear that it is more progressive. How do you like the "True Force" (I think that's the name) ffb?
@@JCCollinsRacing No problem, it's great to share ideas, anything to make it feel a bit more realistic and to not piss off the girlfriend 😅, I'll probably check out a few of your video's, I just took delivery of the playseat challenge after using a crappy xrocker metal stand and office chair, need to attach the handbrake and gearshifter. I don't have experience with any other wheels and pedals, other than 18 years with real cars, ranging from Honda Jazz to BMW E36 M3. The g923 brake pedal feels very natural to me, definitely has a progressive feel, would compare it something like a VW golf, it's comfortable to use, but takes decent amount off pressure to hit 100%. Of course it won't compare to a the weight a race car needs or better SIM pedals, I did fit a 6mm mod piece in the brake pedal and tested it with my hand, decided to leave it out, I haven't used the playseat yet, but as I'll be able to stamp on the pedal more I might want the extra pressure and put it in.
@@JCCollinsRacing I tested trueforce in Dirt Rally 2 and it felt awful, just made the wheel rattle like crazy, so turned most of it off except the trueforce effect where it vibrates when you rev the engine, nothing special. I had a better experience with it in Forza horizon 4, it was much more subtle, like a bit of vibration whilst driving down a dirt road, it added to the experience, but not a good enough reason to upgrade or pay more for the g923 over the G29. I bought mine second hand for £160.
@@00Clive00 the Playseat Challenge will definitely give you that added stability while braking! I also started off with an office chair and table for the wheel base. @@00Clive00 that's really good to know and not a bad price for the G923. Thanks for that. I have been curious about how much of a difference the TrueForce makes. I wonder if some of the clipping can be addressed with a more powerful power unit... You should check out my video, "5A = Better FFB???". It addresses the effects of more amperage to the G29/G923's ffb and clipping during sim-play. I tested a stronger power unit on AC, ACC, and F1 2021. I used the same bushing insert for about a year and Im finding myself smashing the brake with no real control. Now im a better driver, I noticed the brake mod is my biggest issue. Im going to cut the bushing down about 50% and see if that helps. If not I will print up a new one with a lower shore value.
@Octo Games nice! What material are you using to print the bushing?
@@JCCollinsRacing The original was purchased. I have a spool of polyflex TPU95 I want to try with a lower infill. The purchased one looked like a 25-30% infill so I will try a 15% with the filament I have.
very good illustration. keep it up
@Damond's Assorted Topic thank you!
Good vid but actually...stop saying actually every 5 words lol
@Bobby Cannon thank you for the feedback!
This video came out at the perfect time because I'm thinking of morning my pedals and shifter
@TECHNOPLEX I'm glad that it helped! Modding the brake pedal makes the largest difference between the 3, in terms of faster lap times. The added resistance of the pedal helps to establish solid and repeatable muscle memory.
How stiff do you think you want to make your pedals?
I want my pedals to fill as realistic a as possible
Btw I'm using ps4
Nice! If you decide to get into PC gaming, this set will still work. Setup is really easy with through the Logitech G Hub software.
Awesome
Great vid! Thank you
@DaveGSound thank you! You're welcome!
The rubber that you take out??
Saludos!!!🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
@Cesar Maidana yes. There is a small rubber block inside of the brake pedal that is supposed to act as a damper, but it does not do a good job of giving the brake a progressive feel. The pedal just has a hard stop. At time of recording this video, I could not locate the original block that I removed and that is why I did not show it. I apologize for any confusion.
Oh you guys can get to the peddle from the back with no disassembly to the housing. I figured that out the third time I took mine apart.
@Octo Games really? I didn't know that. How can you get to the pedal without disassembly?
@@JCCollinsRacing the two screws behind the pad on the peddle. Its a little bit of a pain putting the screws back in so use a flathead to leverage the spring tube back in place.
@@octogames6823 thanks for sharing this tip!
Did you use any pre load washer for throttle as well?
@richmeier yes. I used one of the thinner preload washers.
@@JCCollinsRacing thanks, and did you use any on the brake or just the yellow damper?
@richmeier yes, I used one for the brake and clutch too. Sorry for the delay in my reply.
i installed the yellow mod, but my computer only sees 60 percent of the entire length of the brake. can you help me?
@Timoxa have you installed a stiffer spring with it? The damper may not be allowing the brake to travel the full distance. Originally, I had to redo putting the damper in the spring because it was getting kinked inside the spring. Also, ensure that you removed any black preload dampers that may or may not be inside the brake pedal. With the yellow damper in place, you will not need the black one.
@Timoxa also, are you using G-Hub? You may have to recalibrate the brake pedal since the travel has changed.
@@JCCollinsRacing Thank you
I honestly feel like the brakes are fine once you have them set on a cockpit just my opinion. great video though man.
Thank you for watching and thank you for your opinion! I can imagine that it feels better on a sturdy rig. If the pedals are rigidly secured, then it becomes easier to modulate the pedal with the stock hard rubber block installed.
@@JCCollinsRacing thanks for the reply man earnt a sub 🤟
@@XsnipxrmainX no problem! Thank you very much for the sub!😁
It Is a good mod or no?
@szn3130 yes, it is a good mod. It definitely helps with brake feel and modulating the pedal better.
Awesome! Im actually glad i watched this
Thank you for watching!
Jesus Christ?
@smascarenhas33 ???
I recently bought my G29. It seems like there must have been a upgrade because this brake is firm.
@The Russ Show does the pedal feel like it hits a hard wall after being fairly light on initial press?
@@JCCollinsRacing yes it does. Should I replace it with a soft rubber. I saw someone use an eraser stick.
Then, how about the calibration after applying this mod? Your video is inspiring me to mod my pedals too~ 😁
@The Unsorry luckily there is no calibration needed. 😁
Joder tío cojonudo.
Can u write the dimensions of the new spring ?
@Lorant Benyak the spring dimensions in cm are, length 6.35 x diameter 2.54, in mm they are length 63.5 x diameter 25.4, and in inches length 2.5 x diameter 1.0. I hope this helps!
Thanks!
@jjules23 you're welcome! Thank you for watching!
I was always rolling backwards whenever I pressed the brake and it definitely effected my lap times in a negative way. You will definitely feel more consistency in your racecraft because of the added stability the Playseat Challenge will give you. When you receive your Playseat, I would definitely be grateful if you check out my Playseat Challenge review and shifter installation guide videos! They will get you started with setup, along with a few things to consider.
Did you race those cars that you have experience with?
@@00Clive00 that's really good to know and not a bad price for the G923. Thanks for that. I have been curious about how much of a difference the TrueForce makes. I wonder if some of the clipping can be addressed with a more powerful power unit... You should check out my video, "5A = Better FFB???". It addresses the effects of more amperage to the G29/G923's ffb and clipping during sim-play. I tested a stronger power unit on AC, ACC, and F1 2021. There is noticeable difference in the ffb smoothness with reduced clipping. Check it our and let me know what you think.
What can be done ,,safely,, to smooth up the braking? it feels stiffer.. and i have an ,,issue,, I push the brake to maximum.. but in the game it was braking around70% why
@Erik Režňák try recalibrating your pedal set. You can do it through Logitech G-Hub and you may have to do it with each sim that you are running in the options menu.
I do perform my mod early today but I will try it tomorrow morning following your steps!! Thanks
@TJones24 you're welcome! I'm glad it helped!
