The star blinking was most likely the proton rapidly folding and unfolding, no fully but enough to make the sky visible vs covered. This would explain what Saul said about the Hubble and other satiates not seeing the same and means that he was right, it was a "deep fake". That guy is a genius and definitely a reason why he's being targeted. I didn't read the books so I'm just enjoying the story from this show. I'm not sure how different they are.
You're correct about the blinking, it was one of the Sophons folding and unfolding. In the book, the sky doesn't blink exactly, but rather the cosmic background radiation blinks. But it's the same idea. Netflix's interpretation is more visually interesting than seeing someone look at a computer terminal.
Saul Durand, or Luo Ji in the books, really is an intuitive character and notices things more readily than others. However (slight spoiler) Saul is targeted not because of that but because he was one of the last person Ye Wenjie talked to. (major spoiler) And that Ye Wenjie dropped a hint of the reality of Space as a Dark forest veiled as a joke in the last episode, the solution to Earths crisis with the San Ti (which is definitely going to be the plot of the second season)
Definitely check out the books. It's interesting to see the differences between the two. At times ideas in book probably wouldn't work very well, so they get changed in the show. At least one character from the book is separated into multiple characters in the show, while others didn't exist at all. I actually can't say one is better than the other, but it's interesting to see the differences.
Not folding and unfolding as I understood it, more rapidly flickering between blocking the light from the stars and letting it pass through. Opaque to transparent
Awesome recap! By the way, the implication as to why Saul is made a wallfacer is not for bait, but rather because the San-ti tried to kill him. The leaders don't know why, but know he must be important somehow because it was the first time the San-ti specifically ordered the assassination of a specific person.
Yeah, that's also what I've figured. But... the other reason could also be that he's actually a bait for the Wallfacer project. Seems weird to me that there have been coincidences that somehow saved his life (skater, not aiming for head). Maybe the San'ti learned the power of deception and knew that Wallfacer project would focus on him for these exact reasons, and he may end up working in San Thi favour without even knowing about it.

Tatjana erasing herself from video tapes is not what's happening I think. It's the sophons that make everyone watching the footage unsee Tatjana's presence and her actions. Remember, the sophons can make stuff appear in people's eyes (e.g. countdowns) so they might as well can make stuff disappear (people literally can't trust their eyes anymore). Also, in the scene where Clarence (the investigator) watches Jack Rooney's bed room from his car outside he clearly sees nobody there while at the same time Tatjana is taking Jack down right by the window. The sophons have manipulated Clarence' vision.
that seems super difficult when they can only be at two places at a time including making countdowns appear for hundreds of scientists around the world
Lists of my questions, whoever can answer it: - who sent that vr headset, since its a physical object meaning someone provided it, it defeats the 400years travel - how the human know where to travel in space, or inshort what path to goto? Is it due to the radio signal before?
Note, that Mike Evans already started communicating with the Santi in the 80s. The Sophons were deployed nearly the same time. The Sophon can travel at the speed of light, since they are protons, without mass. They can also communicate instantly through quantum physics. Now its possible the Santi aided Mike Evans, together with guidance or help of the Sophons. As for deployment, Wenje and Tatiana were responsible for the distribution. If you notice, when they capture a hard drive in the Judgement Day boat belonging to Evens. The hard drive they retrieved contained the actual 3 body problem. The only problem I have is the fact that they were able to turn a “Proton” into a Sentient Super Computer, Split it into 4, send 2 all the way to earth to spy on them in real time but they couldn’t find another planet to move to & make it suitable for them to live on? I mean if your civilization can “thrive” with 3 suns, I’m sure they can figure something out with Mars or something I mean seriously…if they can make a Proton Sentient Super Computer, I’m sure they can create artificial oxygen or something
Earth is the closest habitable planet, and they didn’t thrive under the 3 suns. They’ve been around a lot longer than us so every collapse they build their knowledge bit by bit
Also its a common critic to the book the sophons were made to powerful at some point. In pretty much every situation its like. Why dont they just use the sophons??
I also liked the foreshadowing by Raj's father at the family dinner when he told the story about how he had to eliminate a squad of Pakistani soldiers on the mountain range in order to take their oxygen tanks for survival. Basically the analogy for The Dark Forest.
As much as I love recaps and Man of Recaps - they just don't do this show justice. There's just too much content and context to pack in that is relevant to the greater storyline. The writers have done such a great job. BUT obviously the next best thing is MAN OF RECAPS
I saw a comment above where someone stopped midway and decided to go watch the show. There's only so much trailers or word of mouth can do. I believe Man of Recaps is doing the Lord's work as some people need a nudge to give great stories a shot.
Loved the recap so good. Excellent job I couldn’t figure out how Tatiana assassin killed him without 18 cameras picking it up but you explained it very well thank you so much.
The ending is quite ironic. It is framed as a hopeful message, but cicadas are very disruptive insects. It, therefore, reflects the question of whether we deserve to survive … or to be conquered.
So despite being disruptive to us humans, we have neither exterminated nor conquered cicadas (as in subjugated every individual and put in a zoo somewhere). They may not be on top of the food chain, but cicadas are doing pretty well it seems.
The Sophons did not travel faster than the speed of light, they were close to the speed of light, since they have the mass of a proton. They took a little more than 4.21 light-years to get to Earth.
Thanks for saving me a lot of time! First two episodes were interesting but I hate this kind of show that it's all questions and questions and questions and even more mystery until the last episodes. I hate being confused for 3/4 of the series with "intricate" plot only to say "hey they were aliens trying to invade us"
thank you for saving me lots of time watching a slow paced series. good story but the direction and pace was somehting i did not find hooked me, like mr robot or other series that were done better in terms of pace and style.
Watching it now and really enjoying it. One small comment - the Struggle Session you see in the very beginning of Ep1 was very normal for Mao’s plan and his Cultural Revolution. There is no record of the number of people killed in this manner. Thousands. More. Mao set out to remove the 4 Olds - old culture, old customs, old traditions, old ideas. The power behind the meaning behind that scene from a cultural and power perspective on the overall plot was brilliant. I don’t know much about this time in Chinese history, but what I know is enough for an understanding which we seem to have forgotten & might be doomed to repeat. Excellent series (and author) to nudge this back into our subconscious. Struggle Sessions weren’t one-off … they were regular and consistent wherever free thought and creative expression was present. And … removed by the Red Army. 100% youth.
The sophons don't move faster than light, they are actual photons, which in vacuum move, well, as fast as light because they are light. San Ti are advanced but nothing can move faster than light, so they've sent the sophons which travelled normally, but their ships are much much slower, so the sophons arrived way way quicker then them. On the interstellar scale, san ti's home system is actually comparably quite close
7:43. The Protons do not move faster than light. Just very close to light speed. Since protons still have some mass they can not travell at light speed (and of course not above).
Just finished listening to the sad story of the man who fought so hard to bring this show to life, Qi Lin. He died after being poisoned by an employee who was mad for being demoted.
Ye Wenjie is not a villain. The reason she press the button is not to destroy mankind. In her time, environment and experience, it is not surprising to make such a choice. Ye Wenjie is an intellectual female scientist with her own ideas, opinions and more progressive ideas about the world. She is a person who is difficult to evaluate in words, because her life is too complicated and miserable, losing her father, family and everything. Her life is not long, but it is long and painful. Compassion is the background color of Ye Wenjie, and cruelty is the means that she has to use to achieve an ideal society. Ye Wenjie is only a person who ignites the fire, but it is difficult to know that human progress has changed because of a certain person. Even without Ye Wenjie, there will be so many countries in the world sending messages into space. Luo Ji(Saul) finally threatened Santi, and place he chose is the grave of Ye Wenjie. Ye Wenjie called the santi and she defeated them.
He wasn’t a decoy. They made him a wallfacer bc the Santi were trying to kill him. I think it has to do with Vera’s mom meeting with him at the cemetery. They see him as a threat.
Thanks, sir. I've been waiting for your recaps for days. I just finished this series and the Chinese production (Tencent). I prefer the Netflix version for the tighter script, but there are nuisances and details that are explored more in the Chinese version, albeit the pacing is a lot tedious and the acting is horrible at times. I'm planning to read to books if I could get my hands on them. Cheers!
The problem the show has with the bugs is that it’s a terrible metaphor… bugs can co exist with us because of their difference in size and living conditions
@@joshuaopoku2543 for example we are 1.7m in height and 1,700 times bigger than ants that would mean the san ti would be 1,700 times bigger than us making them 289,000m which makes them the size of 875 Eiffel towers stacked together which would mean they are too big to even stand on the earth…. Yes maybe think before you write some dumb comment like that you r tard
As much as I want this series / book to be accurate, one flaw I find is if the San Ti is able to kill anyone easily from light years away using the Sophons (just like how they threatened Thomas Wade 12:02), why don't they just do it with Saul or heck the whole human species so that there will be no one to fight once they land here after 400 years?
This sounds like a really decent show. Going to give it an official watch to contribute to the viewership. Hope there is a season 2. Knowing Netflix's track record about cancellations though...
Thank you very much, I did enjoy this recap. I feel like this show might end in a disaster, knowing who is behind it, so might as well do a recap than watch season after season only to meet the doom.
I understand that perspective, given what happened with GOT, but you are missing some terrific character development and truly moving interplay between the main characters.
A less hard sci-fi version of this would be Gantz I guess? Humans fighting off alien conquerors in a brutal way with tech given by the God aliens, given thru a binary code when the aliens made contact thru a disabled kid. But alas humans will always be greedy and egotistic soo they made a battle royale game with the combat equipment given, and made the rich people bet on who's gonna win. I suggest you read that masterpiece of a manga then watch the movie, and lastly the anime.
For anyone who doesn’t know, this series is based off three books. I highly recommend reading them. Some of the best sci fi writing to exist

Thanks bro. I watched the first foreign series. i couldn't imagine it landing smoothly here in the States. It's sci-fi-asf
Nah. I saw the show and this was MUCH better. 😂
Loved the recap so good. Excellent job I couldn’t figure out how Tatiana assassin killed him without 18 cameras picking it up but you explained it very well thank you so much.
I love these recaps so much. It helps my adhd in deciding what to watch or not!
This was such a good show i love these types of shows
The night is dark and full of terrors
Except the alien photons
All that fancy tech and the Santi decide to take a 400 year road trip to some backwater planet in the middle of nowhere😂
You call it backwater, they call it a paradise
It's literally paradise for them
Maybe it is the perfect bio world for them.
But, yeah.
Man if humanity was in their position we would be long gone.
That was the closest habitable planet to them
The Sophons did not travel faster than the speed of light, they were close to the speed of light, since they have the mass of a proton. They took a little more than 4.21 light-years to get to Earth.
Where does the headsets come from?
Perfect recap!
6:45 hit em with that malevolent shrine
I was expecting a little reference to Davos and Sam but its a great recap without it nonetheless.
Thanks for saving me a lot of time! First two episodes were interesting but I hate this kind of show that it's all questions and questions and questions and even more mystery until the last episodes. I hate being confused for 3/4 of the series with "intricate" plot only to say "hey they were aliens trying to invade us"
You are a master of your craft!
Thank you 💪🏾
thank you for saving me lots of time watching a slow paced series. good story but the direction and pace was somehting i did not find hooked me, like mr robot or other series that were done better in terms of pace and style.
7:45 - sophon cant move faster than light, just very close to light 99.9999%
You earned a sub!
is there a season two of this show
Thanks for saving my time.
Never been so confused by a tv show, even after 3 eps 😂
Got bored watching the show, and came watching MOR (Man of Recap) instead 👍🏼
What's MOR?
I was waiting for the video, like a 6 year old waits for Christmas
Hey man of recaps, I'm curious if there's a list of your favorite tv shows / movies? Thanks!
7:43. The Protons do not move faster than light. Just very close to light speed. Since protons still have some mass they can not travell at light speed (and of course not above).
thanks for saving our time
Just finished listening to the sad story of the man who fought so hard to bring this show to life, Qi Lin. He died after being poisoned by an employee who was mad for being demoted.
Will‘s brain is a MacGuffin that will come back as a deus ex machina.
0:38 I’m sure that was a glitch in the matrix 😮JFK was communicating 😂
Currently watching this show but I think it’s beyond my comprehension so now I’m here 😩😅
show hard as hell... even tho I love this channel, I kinda regret watching this before the fact.. but no matter, I'll watch it.
Why Mycroft Holmes is there 😂😂😂
You save me so much time, bravo to you my brother
Damn, hope they keep the story of the wallfacers the same, cause who saul was supposed to be was a badass
I knew you could convince me to watch it
Ye Wenjie is not a villain.
Thank you
He wasn’t a decoy.
Cheers!
Is that the dude from that one movie? the mega structure guy
The problem the show has with the bugs is that it’s a terrible metaphor… bugs can co exist with us because of their difference in size and living conditions
But we don't know how the San-Ti looks likes. Maybe they are big enough to see us as that little too
@@joshuaopoku2543 for example we are 1.7m in height and 1,700 times bigger than ants that would mean the san ti would be 1,700 times bigger than us making them 289,000m which makes them the size of 875 Eiffel towers stacked together which would mean they are too big to even stand on the earth…. Yes maybe think before you write some dumb comment like that you r tard
The santi in the books are bugs. Like a grain of rice.
@@mwansamatimba2750 yes, but we do not know that now in the series. Infact it wasn't even in the original trilogy
@@joshuaopoku2543 it's in the spin off, though the main writer of the trilogy does approve this theory in some way.
Amazing series
This was explained better than actually watching the movie 😂😂😂😂
It's game of thrones reunion in space.
Nice recap. Second half of Season 1 got really boring. This recap is a nicer way to wrap it all up.
Read the books!!! They are long but so good
Huh. Thanks. Saved me a lot of time. Seems interesting indeed.
My favorite book series
Please pick up season 2
Oh, huh. Didn't know there was a western version made of this too.
This man is doing god's work
This sounds like a really decent show. Going to give it an official watch to contribute to the viewership. Hope there is a season 2.
Knowing Netflix's track record about cancellations though...
This is looks like it will get one
@@filhanislamictv8712For what I've heard, there's not going to be a 2nd season. Production cost is astronomically high (no pun intended).
sucha good serie
Wow. I was planning to watch this show, but just in the recaps, there's too much going on. Thanks to these recaps, I'll just skip this one.
30 million peeps in 1 area, that's alot of food required and loads of excrement to deal with. Roman armies required just as many haulers as soldiera
Seasons 2 and 3 was just confirmed by Netflix.
Ok, so... what? Gotta rewatch x3
Mmm yes science... yes i understand
