I don't like the running tracks and i don't know why they build so much stadiums with running tracks in Germany in the 60s and 70s. For example I can' t remember any athletics events for in Hamburg or Schalke.

Franz Beckenbauer had come and gone before my time, but its thanks to something like youtube that I can discover a player who was the epitome of class. He had this calmness on the ball, like he made everything look so easy, but what he did was incredibly difficult. My all time favorite player.

@@glaswegiansouth-side2350 To the best of my recollection (and I might be wrong), I think Barcelona did not allow him to play. There was no FIFA days back then, . This was a game I think on 75 anniversary of German football federation, and I am assuming that clubs were not obligated to release their players for such friendly games.. Note that Johan Neeskens who was also playing for Barca at that time is absent as well. If my recollection is wrong, then Cruyff must have been injured.

Other than those great Brazilian teams, I think these two teams from that era are the greatest of all time. German teams have been the most consistent teams since the 1950s, the Dutch, they were great in the 1970's but went flat in the 1980s, they had a bit of a resurgence in the 1990s and 2000s, and did well in the 2010s, but they never had the same caliber of a team that they had between 1974-78

1994 WC lost against later winner
92,96,98, 2000 Euro and WC all penalty losses in semi finals (except 96 quarter)
In the 90's, the Netherlands had a team that made every other country tremble with fear.
A wonder they hadn't won a cup and always lost on penalties.

Poland were pretty close too. Breitner and Beckenbauer both said they were the best in '74. Indeed statistically Poland had the best record - 6 wins (incl. against Argentina, Brazil, Italy + England in qualification), most goals (16!) and the top scorer (Lato). Deyna was rated 3rd best player behind Cruijf and Beckenbauer and Zmuda was voted best young player. Poland played Holland five times between 1969 and 1979 (Cruijf was in four of those games) - with 3 wins and just 1 defeat.
