I think the year was 2007 or 2008 and I discovered Kalmah on Limewire. I had never ever ever heard a song that basically started with a solo, was essentially a solo the entire way through, and then had a real guitar solo, but then the singer sings over the real solo... I can't explain it. lol It blew my mind. I'd already discovered Bodom, so I knew of riff-heavy beautifully solo'd extreme metal, but Kalmah was really what opened my eyes up to an entire genre of music: melodic death, which would itself lead me to discover there was a *whole world* of metal that was like discovering Baroque music all over again. Anyway, this song was probably the first Kalmah song and I ended up buying their four first CDs from Amazon all at once. All this to say, your cover was impeccable and really made me happy to see what the playing on this song was like.
Wow, thanks so much! I really appreciate that. I had a similar experience discovering Kalmah back in the day. The use of melodic lead guitar throughout an entire song was new to me and changed my view of what metal could be. If not for them, I wouldn't be the player I am today. Thanks for listening!
i've come back and watched this video many times in the (apparently) last half year and just dig it so much. I'd love to learn this one but I'm soooo lazy. It's like learning a four minute solo 😂
I've always loved the guitar work on this song, and you Sir have covered it perfectly! Thank you for taking the time and for sharing this with the rest of the Kalmah fans.
also how they often underline them with an equally badass rhythm guitar...the intro solo here and the solo from Withering Away imo have the best solo support I heard so far
Haha no problem man.. do some more Kalmah covers! I've seen too many painful attempts on youtube and not enough quality ones like this. Maybe Evil in You or Using the Word?
Rey Aguilar Wow, thanks Rey! I appreciate that. Melo-death has always been the genre I'm most passionate about. I'm glad to hear other people are still digging it!
kaan taskintuna I used the tab from ultimate guitar for the rhythm and had to learn the solos by ear. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of good Kalmah tabs out there, especially when it comes to the leads.
Nahian Chowdhury That's very cool of you to say, but I've got a long way to go yet before I even get close to their level. Really appreciate you taking time to listen!
Clint Hale That’s true, because they are the creator. But you covered it playing every note clearly. You’re welcome, keep covering more from them or from Tool, if you follow them.
this is seriously deserving a lot more views man
HummingBlackGuy Thanks man!
too bad not many listen to Kalmah
