Happy to see some Acid Bath love on here. Sammy and Mike were a duo unmatched by any other. Riffs for days!
Also High Roller has some seriously great stuff!

Metal Church was the perfect cross road album of were Metal came from and was heading when released, still relevant.Rocked the album cover tee shirt to death after waiting months for it to arrive in Australia by mail order back in the mid 80's.Forward to Termination is off the chain and what a great album intro sequence.

@@BornTooNate yet another example of a band with an amazing 3rd record. "Blessing In Disguise" is something I hold in the same league as Dio's "Sacred Heart" or Kyuss' "Welcome to Sky Valley"

Love the first Darkness record. I got married in 2003 and that album was in heavy rotation that year. Nothing but good memories there. I'd include Baroness - Red Album, Alice in Chains - Facelift, and NIN - Pretty Hate Machine on my list for sure. Great video/list, Nate!

Almost included baroness - red. Amazing debut LP. Permanently attached to a beloved/nostalgic period of my life living like the Manson family in a haunted house, west fork AR 😂👻

Not upset at all about Skid Row. Total agreement. And I'm also more of a Dismember guy (than Entombed, great as they are), making those two things be the reason for my first comment...though I've been a watcher here for quote a while. Plus - hail the memory of Acid Bath. Never anything like it, nor will be again. Great stuff, Nate.

Stoked for this one! Dude thank you for mentioning METAL CHURCH!! Im more of a fan of , "THE DARK" but thats a 20+ year nostalgic thing. My old band actually played with Deadbird in 2005.

Deftones Adrenaline , Tool Opiate, you mentioned this one previously and I’ve loved it since it came out Majesties Vast Reaches Unclaimed and Nile Festivals of Atonement …Obituary Slowly We Rot …all killer debuts from some of my fav bands.

Agree with the vast majority of your debut picks, Nate. 👍I was especially stoked to see Mastodon 'Remission' among the chosen. 🤘
I would add Ripping Corpse 'Dreaming with the Dead'; probably the best technical death/thrash album ever made in my opinion. 👌 Sadly also their only album as well as their debut.. 🤗

I’ll die on a hill for The Legacy(Testament) til the day I die. Don’t know why it’s not mentioned more as greatest debuts. But that’s the ONE I was waiting for you to mention!

man I would REALLY love to see a "Best Third Record" review, and why, even just a top 10. I feel like that is often (though not always) the real measure of an amazing band. I could go on with a list, but I suspect "Massive Killing Capacity" by Dismember would be my #1

Cool vid. I agree with a bunch of your picks. Here are a few hard rock (and hair metal, whatever) picks from my youth that would be on a theoretical list: Van Halen - Van Halen, Def Leppard - On Through The Night, Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love, RATT - Under The Cellar (front to back killer riffs), Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction. My thrash pick: Metallica - Kill 'Em All cuz I do think it's one of the best debuts ever (and, depending on the day, my fave Metallica). My grunge picks: Nirvana - Bleach (negative creep is one of my fave riffs ever) and Alice in Chains - Facelift.

When you chose other albums from these artists for the top 10 metal albums of all time, was it because of different considerations like influence on later artists, or did you just change your mind? I'm mainly thinking about the Trouble album here

    • @BornTooNate
      @BornTooNate  7 месяцев назад

Valid question… Certain records, for example Psalm 9 vs The Skull… I go back and forth in perpetuity about which one I like more/believe is superior. So I’m trying to give as much attention as possible to both records.

Saw them at yucca tap room when that album came out. 20 people in the crowd. Saw em a little later with Jay Weinberg on drums. 20 people in the crowd. They stopped touring the states because they fill arenas in Europe. Don’t blame em!

I trashed my original list cuz you already covered 'em. So instead I'm presenting a list of proto-metal debuts! I count Black Sabbath as proto-metal, but left it off. I love that you love The Darkness. Seeing their first U.S. tour back in '03 kind of felt fresh in a way, because there was such a lack of that kind of hard rock at the time. That would change in subsequent years.
    Proto-Metal
    1. High Tide - Sea Shanties (1969)
    2. Stray - Stray (1970)
    3. Blue Cheer - Vincebus Eruptum (1968)

    5. Night Sun - Mournin' (1972)
    6. Blackwater Park - Dirt Box (1971)
    7. Speed, Glue & Shinki - Eve (1971)
    8. Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend (1970)
    9. Leaf Hound - Growers Of Mushroom (1971)
    1. Queen - Queen (1973)

    12. Budgie - Budgie (1971)
    Granicus - Granicus (1973)
Sir Lord Baltimore - Kingdom Come (1970)

Skynyrd was hard not to include… they’ll be on the next episode “perfect albums.” And that’s weird, I’ve been thinking about texting Blake for that very reason…

Testament- the legacy was the first cassette I owned. I was 8 or 9 years old. I hadn’t heard anything heavier than sabbath from my parents listening to them. I thought the cover was cool and my mom bought it for me. Then I got into Metallica and Iron Maiden, and down the rabbit hole I went.

Unpopular opinion here but to me Kill Em All has become my favorite Metallica record over the years- it’s just so raw and unhinged, fun, fast and aggressive! The perfect intersection of discharge and Motörhead!

I'd have Kill Em All on there, I don't see what the rest of their discography has to do with it. I prefer Left Hand Path to Like an Everflowing Stream but that's just different people's preferences. Appetite for Destruction not on there??? I'd have Alice in Hell by Annihilator and Slowly We Rot by Obituary.

I can’t stand Guns N’ Roses with the exception of “you could be mine” because of the T2 connection. Greatest movie ever made + greatest GnR song ever made. The other albums you mentioned are all killer
