The reason that Clarkson spun the M135i was that he spent half of the day going sideways and wearing out the rear tyres. He then drove too fast on a very wet track and aquaplaned. Nothing really to do with the car's handling it was 100% caused by the nut behind the wheel.
I’m a m140i owner myself spent a fortune on it, now running just shy of 500bhp with uprated suspension, bushes, braces and an lsd it’s a car that handles its power incredibly well. They have such a large tuning capacity as well as the potential to handle very well when purchasing the correct upgrades 👌🏽
Bought mine two years ago and I am still incredibly happy with that car. Especially the 2 door variant stands out next to other hatchbacks who look very similar nowadays.
Such a machine, the fact the engine is in the new supra and can run 700+ without touching the block is insane, exactly the right engine to follow the 2J
I've been enjoying my M140i xDrive for 2 years now. You could think it's a sleeper or underdog but the beast comes out of it just when you press the throttle.
So glad I didn't trade my M140i in for any of the 2 litre, AWD clones. It has been brilliant, running 455bhp/634nm reliably for the past 4 years. It's practical, comfortable and surprisingly fuel efficient when needed, yet so much FUN when I want a hoon. If you believe Jeremy Clarkson footage isn't just scripted comedy and actually take it for truth, you need to have a word with yourself. The only way you could get one that out of shape is by turning all of the assistance off (traction/stability). And if you are an experienced RWD owner, this is precisely why you would want a RWD car, because you can have so much fun, which you can't have in a FWD or AWD car. At the moment they are falling into the hands of chavs, and will do for a while, just like subaru impreza's did, but give them a few years and good examples will rise in value and become sought after, because they are unique and nothing like them will ever be made again.
Millway rear subframe and front tension strut bushings, LSD, proper suspension kit with camber plates, 255 square tires, Recaro seats, Endless brake pads and fluid, downpipe, tune. With that the car becomes drivable. Thank me later. :)
Even in Europe where you can/could buy the xdrive version more than 50% preferred the RWD sdrive version. RWD ist THE main USP of the M140, besides inline 6
Love mine and wouldn't think about swapping it for a boring generic 2.0l 4 pot awd that my Grandma could drive fast. The only thing that would make me consider changing would be a full fat M car. But I've spent loads on an MP LSD, springs and dampers, under body brace, bushes and had it mapped. So it handles fairly well, and far better than stock. Always puts a smile on my face.

Love my M140i but only issue I have after owning it for 93,000 kms around 2000 rpm (60km/h) normal mode the car seems to not like it. It is Kicking/jerking at low speeds or when releasing/applying throttle. If anyone can help that would be great. Hoping to keep it or trade in for an EV.
Is it an auto (ZF8) ? The auto will need servicing, oil change and filter (and make sure you get the ZF fluid). If you are even thinking about an EV, you need to sell the M140i to a real petrolhead mate, because it's obviously the wrong car for you.
