- Today we're going to learn how to make a Pirate Medallion, as seen in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl! Learn techniques for modeling very complex shapes very quickly! Designed for beginner-intermediate users.

not good for games , but knowledge is unique thanks
why didnt you use uv coordinates for displace ypu could have had a cool and nice border
IantoddusSardus can you make a tutorial on this?
I have an irregular shape that I want to do this process to, not a square or coin shape
Very cool ... one subscribed to your channel !!!
how do you do the video and the VFX tutorial? Thank you!
Thanks for the sub! Do you mean the video at the beginning of the tutorial (showing the coin flipping and falling, with the flaming embers)?
yes please!
I'll make a tutorial for it then :) but the gist of it is this: make a particle system of small, flat disks, and use the Particle Info node to control how bright/what shade of red the particle is: docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/render/cycles/nodes/types/input/particle_info.html
boy take off diplacement to 0,030-35
Если вы не сохранили проект, не открывайте модификатор Skin, а то повисните нахрен.
А за урок спасибо.
I had to slow you down to .50 because you move too fast haha. Great video though!
super work bro, thanks for the video
thanks man! :)
If only we could always get hi-res textures...nice tutorial. Another solution to get a better-quality texture is importing the picture as a plane, and then just making a mesh that matches the embossed part of the medallion, use some displacement and beveling. I know that takes a lot more modeling, but that can solve the resolution problem :)
Thank you for the kind words and the suggestion!
Help please. When I hit new for the node editor the nodes do not appear. I have the coin selected but it doesn’t give me any nodes
Instead of scaling and aligning the texture with the mapping node and awkwardly scaling the mesh resulting in the jagged borders after deleting the disproportional rings, I think it would be better to just open the texture in an image editor and do the changes (correcting the perspective) even before importing the texture to blender. This way you get an even mesh and the textures apply correctly from the get go.
Thank you for the suggestion! Do you know if there is a way to do that within Blender? I try to keep my tutorials exclusively within Blender.
A quick fix would be to unwrap the UV's with a planar projection and to distort the UV's until they match the distorted texture. This would work but as a result would distort all other textures/noises that you add to the same object.
There are lots of free image editors like krita or gimp that could easily do this with two clicks and they can be a valuable tool in many situations. I get why you choose to do your tutorial this way (easy to follow along and everyone has all the tools needed from the get go) but I believe that choosing the right tool for the right job is an important step to become a better artist.
Have a nice day. :)
New to blender think ya could do one in 2.8
Thanks for this tutorial. However, the scene is hard to handle if the coin alone has >300K verticies.
Thanks for the kind words and the feedback!
That's a great point. I think if I were to remake this and take advantage of the new tools Blender has to offer, I might rework it with adaptive subdivision, to substantially reduce the number of vertices. Some retopologizing might be in order, too. It's certainly an area for improvement!
@@drjosephfarah then please remake tutorial
Dirty way to do it hahahaha
if you're into dirty, check out the rest of my channel! most of it tries to optimize product vs. time/effort :)
@@drjosephfarahwell done
keep it up dude
Thank you the nodes stuff is amazing
Thanks!
only a small problem 9:57 how to scale you just did it without showing how.
Hi! Thanks for asking. That's a problem I'm working on: saying everything I'm doing out loud. Thank you for your patience! Hit 's' on your keyboard and move the mouse around scale up the object.
