  • Anost, a fascinating little rural town in the heart of the Morvan regional park and at the gates of the beautiful and large forest of the same park, notably home to its large wild boar park, and known for its traditional August festival, "la fete de la Vieille d'Anost"
The church, placed under the patronage of Saint Germain, dates from the 12th century for its "cul-de-four" apse and its transept, the elongated nave and flanked by two side aisles having been built in the 19th century (1850). Sacristy and access to the bell tower (left and right of the choir) dating from the 18th century. The campanile with a frame covered with stalks was replaced in 1932 by a rubble bell tower in the shape of a square tower. This church houses in the left aisle the recumbent effigies of Jehan and Isabeau de Roussillon, restored as part of a process finalized in 2005 which made it possible to replace these recumbent effigies at the top of the north aisle, to clean the sculptures, to eliminate the salts and to discover many polychrome remains (source: WIKIPEDIA)
    The bells:
    (short story)
The bell tower houses 3 bells, Simone-Pauline, Victoire and Paule-Isabelle. The big bell is a recast made in 1932 by Georges Farnier of Robecourt (Vosges), recovering the old big bell "Anne", blessed on October 10, 1816 (like the medium bell) and which weighed 420kg and absorbing the old small bell, increasing the total weight of the new large bell to 580kg. According to these local indications, we can therefore deduce that before 1932 there were 4 bells in the belfry. Note that the current small bell (benite January 10, 1876) is also a refusion of an old bell, unfortunately there is no more info on this subject.

NOTE: In this video we do not hear the traditional hammer blows (3-3-3) ringing for the Angelus, neither on the big bell nor on any other bell of this ringtone, when at the time I made this recording ( October 2016) I had not heard the different hour bells ringing. We cannot exclude that the hammer was broken...
