8 weeks ago I started running for the first time since 2008 and today I achieved 28minutes in 5.01km. My first run was 2km at 15 minutes. Felt like I will never run a 5km again. Now here I am watching runners and feeling motivated. Thanks for the high quality and well resourced videos.
Anxious to see him at the half marathon distance, going from a 4:08 pace to a "slow" 4:30 is going to feel like an easy tempo run. Great video (and runner).
I believe he can really break the track records but I feel he is so much focused on roads . I hope he I hope he breaks them that would be something so special for us Ugandans 😆
Yeah I feel that at that age, most runners really just focus on the track.. and then transfer to the roads when they are much older. If this guy keeps going like this he might be onto something real special
He is wearing shoes that allow people to increase running efficiency by 4%... Just making some maths 12:51 = 771 seconds 771 times 1.04 = 801.84 = 13:11.8 seconds. Only with wearing turbo spikes, he might get close to the current track WR standing at 12:37. In the case of the 10km WR, 26:38 = 1598 seconds, 1598 * 1.04 = 1661.92 = 27:41.92, far far away from 26:17. Amazing human running performances or amazing technological innovations? what do you want to see?
What a privilege to watch such an exceptional runner who's still so young. He'll be making sports headlines for the next decade for all the right reasons. It will be interesting to see if he steps up to the half & full marathon distances later in his career. He might discover another level of outstanding.
I showed my wife some side-on footage of him running the Monaco 5 km and slowed the video down to 0.25 speed. "It's like he's always in the air" she said. Exactly. The less time on the ground, the faster you are running. His running form is beautiful.
Your content and speed for putting together such videos is amazing , I lost the desire to even watch other RUclipsrs . Your are the benchmark in this game. Nice videos and am always looking forward for them
My favorite video of all the videos you made. Like I cannot tell you how many time I watched. This one inspires me so much to run even faster. Thanks man..
@jason stephenson wow body shaming people... If you wanna achieve anything in long distance running that is one of the prices to pay. I am aswell 5'10 and 116 lbs And what are you even talking bout...? I don't know you but I guess Cheptegei, me or other runners are far more defined (visible muscles due to a low body fat percentage)
The same way Kipchoge and Bekele worked their way up from shorter distances to Marathon dominating athletes, I believe Cheptegei is also going to be a powerhouse in the road marathon field. Cheptegei will continue to push the bar higher with faster times than both Kipchoge and Bekele will ever produce. Cheptegei will be the next person to set a new Marathon world record after Bekele or Kipchoge set it. I say no more than 4-5 years time. Uganda will be the proud owner of the fastest official marathon time. Kenya and Ethiopia, watch out!
Most likely a gold medalist in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in 5k and 10k track races!!!! New power house of distance running Uganda. TRP. Well done. An excellent video and fantastic commentary throughout. I have previously "ranted" about it being unlikely that World Records will be broken at these Olympics. Based on observations from previous Games that end up being strategic and relatively slow, with sitters/kickers powering home over the last 400 to 1200m. But... with Cheptegei in the field, he is likely to push the pace from the front. Then anything could happen, including WR?? or kickers recording fast times by hanging on the leader. What a great Olympics to look forward to! Cheers.
Excellent documentary !! Really enjoyed reading about his training schedule and his racing. Thanks for producing such high quality, informative and entertaining videos!
His form reminds me of Kipchoge. Can't wait to see what he'll be capable of doing forward. If he transitions to the marathon, I bet he'll go under 2 hours in a sanctioned race.
I love that you say "fart-lek" and the way you pronounce it. As a norwegian I have never considered that it was a word used anywhere outside of scandinavia. In norwegian the word literally translates to "Speed game".
Top quality clip this. , so enjoyed it 👍🏻👍🏻just an observation- both Kipchoge and Cheptegei are 167cm tall and also both 52kgs in weight. The 2 best runners on the planet at the moment. Obviously the perfect weight to height ration for distance running.
Another great video again Andrew! Are you going to be doing anymore podcasts anytime soon? Really enjoyed both the interview with Spencer and the Nike shoe technology episodes!
Great runner! But everybody will be beaten someday. This does not make his performance worse, it is the normal way of life. Hopefully he can go ahead like this. Pleasure to see him.
that’s what seemingly makes the different between the good and the great. The great all fail and get humbled at one point. However through discipline they learn from this and display their comeback power
@@ErickHernandez-pu5np Kipchoge's form is flawless, almost robotic. Cheptegai's form is fluid like a gazelle. Imo Cheptegai's form is more visually pleasing, while Kipchoge's form is more fundamentally sound.
Uganda has many good runners but the government better had never put almost any efforts in supporting them but recently they started slowly to include them in the national budget. It's so hard to even make it because many good runners with a talent are poor and got no chance to even prove themselves the sport still lacks sport from the government. But proud to see cheptegi work against all those odds.
These Kenyans/Eteopians/uganda runners come and go Two years ago who knew who Cheptegai and Kiproto are Now they are world record holders Will not be suprised if in 6 months someone new comes on
Bobi wine if he becomes the president of Uganda, he promised to prioritize athletics. That will help to lift more runners for Uganda and Africa at large because we have so many runners down there struggling on their own.
Maybe use some tones or beeps when changing segments and mention in the first sentence of the segment if a world record or word title is coming up. That would make it a little easier to follow for people listening in the background while working.

Who's here after he broke Bekele's 16 year 5K record of 12:37.36 setting his and a new WR of 12:35.36??🏅🏅
Check out the shoes he was wearing. There is your explanation.
Bekele is the best runnner in track
And yet with the same shoes, Cheptigei ran the half marathon faster.
@@Vedioviswritingservice so many records going from these new shoes, even in the sprints.

Great video no doubt!
this guy might break the 5k record on track.. he's got the gut to push the pace early.. which is very special and hard even for the elites

Well on track with the spikes you have the gain of probably more than 4%.. and there is also the extra help from the ease of pacing
