  • On Tuesday, a fire ripped through Copenhagen's Old Stock Exchange, one of the Danish capital's most famous landmarks, engulfing its spire, which collapsed in a scene reminiscent of the 2019 blaze at Paris' Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The historic building, whose spire was shaped as the tails of four dragons intertwined, had been under renovation and clad in scaffolding when the fire broke out.
"Even my parents who are from another part of Denmark have a little miniature figure of Boersen (Stock Exchange building) in the living room," a 25-year-old political party worker Mathias Andersen said. "We lost something big today."
Parts of the roof had collapsed and the fire spread to several floors of the building, the fire service said, adding the firefighting operation would continue through the night.

Why are these renovation companies so incompetent/not thoroughly vetted? Is this the cost of civic projects being awarded to the lowest bidder??

That’s part of the problem, , immigrant, untrained labour. Renovations of historic buildings used to be done by highly specialized master craftsmen, and apprentices who served years training under the master before they were allowed touch such irreplaceable historic buildings.
Many people working on these buildings now have no real knowledge or respect for their ancient structural makeup.

They were exchanging the copper roof, and in an irony the copper roof cant burn so it contained the heat inside making it even more destructive. Alot of art and craftmanship from some of Europes finest artists 400 years ago has been lost.

Please explain why so many fires are caused by restorations. The Notre-Dame de Paris fire of 2019; the Glasgow School of Art fire of 2018; the Texas Governor's Mansion fire in 2008; the Masquerade Club in Istanbul? What's going on?

Renovations make these buildings incredibly vulnerable, especially the scaffolding is a hindrance to firefighters. I have worked as a consultant, specializing in protecting preserving historical buildings. In most cases, these old buildings' roofs are made of wood with metal plating as roofing. Old wood is like kindle. It takes nothing to ignite it. If a fire ignites in the roof the metal acts like an oven, containing the heat and the fire spreads incredibly fast. I hate that some ignorant people are using our national tragedy as an excuse to be hateful.

The danish government just got caught by a soldier, for violating their own constitution, it was by a homeland security officer who declared war on the government, police, and main military for it the day before. The unit that caught the state was the resistance movement in WW2. The fire was a political strike after the government kept hiding the violation from its citizens. The police have even been aggressive in arresting the officer but failed the day before this, now their building is burning! The police think they can beat a military officer now look at their building burning.
