Just the mom coming out in me... But please be careful with your stove so close to your tapestry and bedding. Really cool build. Awesome set up for small space. Safe travels.
Nice van for a solo traveller. I hope you have lots of great adventures in it. One thing that worried me was your camp stove, which presumably runs off propane? If you havent already done so, you should put the propane bottle(s) in a cabinet with a vent to the outside. You should also have a gas detector mounted down low if you use propane, plus a fire extinguisher, given that you have fabric and bedding right by the naked flames. Well done on what you've achieved so far.
Your van is really cute, but I've been doing this for a few years and noticed a few things that I would think about. First of all you have a 20 gallon water tank. That's 160 lb of water if full. Good thing that it's over the wheel well from what I can tell but you also have your battery sitting right next to it. Even with the battery in a box I wouldn't put my electrical night next to my water tank. Also, what is the weight of your battery? That's a lot of weight all on one side of your van. Watch your tires for wear. also, I bought a little handheld shower deal when I first started that pump 2 gallons per minute and I didn't realize it and I went through a 5-gallon bucket of water before I could get my whole body showered off! Lol what is the flow on your shower head? You have lots of water which is good but just be aware of that. Last thing, watch all those curtains and your bedding because of where you got your stove placed. But other than that it looks great. Have been in a minivan for the past 2 and 1/2 years and just upgraded it. Love the layout of your van. Happy road tripping!
I can send you some fabric pens to color the tapestry on rainy days. If you decide to repurpose the back curtains, they would be beautiful covering the side of the sink and possibly the side of the bed. Have you thought of a magnetic window covering for the back? Love your clean yet cozy build! I'm stealing some ideas but buying a journal. Maybe you can cook up a planning journal for us vanlife dreamers.
Good tips. 1 more tip that coincides... If you switch your oven with your sink you can face the sink inwards so you can use it without going outside:) Great job girl!!
Great Job on your Van! I'm trying to do the same thing and just found a 2005 Grand Caravan with 91,000 miles for $4500.00. It drives like a dream. If I do this, My family (Borthers & Sisters) aren't going to be supportive at all and they're totally against it. I live in a studio right now and have been for 8 years. I'm on a disability check but it's SSD and not SSI which I had enough working credits for that so it's the same as being retired really. I am so ready to do this that I've already bought some necessities for a Van. I almost have everything I need except for Solar, Inverter, refrigerator. I need to do this now for myself besides just wanting to before my health gets any worse. I won't ever forgive myself if I don't do it. I mean, I will be living full time in the Van I get because I can't afford both or an apartment too. My Studio takes about everything I have so I haven't had a vehicle in awhile. I feel like a caged animal over here that would do not anything but definitely the Van Life so pray for me that this will work out because I'm not good if it doesn't. ANYWAY Have fun and maybe we will cross paths one day.
Same, started my savings plan for my build. My rent is 1700.$ a month for a crappy studio. That’s just the rent! Nothing is included. I’m done. I need to get the hell out of N.Y
Hi Tia! From one Vaner to another, you may want to work on your blackout techniques for the windows and your curtains, like allowing the material to overlap about an inch of every side of a window, and maybe even thicken up the material layers to make it more opaque. Also have your keys panic alarm ready in case someone tries to get into the van, you can hit the panic and they will run off.. reset it and they will never know you were in there.
Absolutely on the curtains! There's a company called heat shield and they will make them specifically for your van and they are awesome I paid about $175 for mine Best purchase I ever made! I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey that I have also lived in!
I had an Aerostar back in the early 90's. I loved every minute in it and did many great trips with friends. I hope you have as much fun as I did. Enjoy.
Thinking back you could have spent less than 2k on mechanical maintenance/upgrades and kept this nice van for many more miles, as long as the engine and trans were good. 4 new wheel bearings, new brake pads/rotors/master cylinder/brake booster, 4 new tires, new radiator, complete engine tune up and new trans fluid/filter. The thing about aerostars is that the last made was in 1997 so certain body & interior parts are hars to find these days. But mechanically...it's mostly Ford everyday stuff.
I really like what you've done!! My grandma had a 1994 model almost identical to yours. She passed away a few years ago and we kept the van and I decided I wanted it. (I'm 16, I just don't have my driver's license because driving schools closed due to covid). Me and my girlfriend have been talking about turning my van into a camper so I'm actually really glad to have found your channel and to now see all of the possibilities. Thank you for the inspiration!!
do you have the 4x4 model!!??? I'm buying one tomorrow here in Seattle, its also a 94! . It only has 80,000 thousand miles, it was owned by a car salesman, its in great condition! cant wait to start my conversion, ill make sure to make some you tube videos about it!
@@davidrodriguez2098 mine has 4 wheel drive but dang I thought mine had low miles with 120,000 (considering the age) I live in Seattle too, actually burien but it's close enough. Mine isn't perfect with minor dings, scratches etc. But it runs perfectly after my dad put nearly $1,000 in new brakes and the cooling system and new fluids. Once I start driving and have a job I plan to slowly start building mine too. I hope things go well for you!!
@@TiaWeston HI Tia ,thanks for the great video! I'll be picking up a 94 Aerostar later today i'm so glad that someone has managed to turn one into a little camper! This is one of the most comfortable looking conversions I have ever seen. It has everything and it's stylish and cute. Nice job. And I love the journals!
I would definately get some reflectix. Lowes or Home Depot has it. What about the propane for your stove? Take care running it next to the fabric. Great set up, but in these times of Covid 19 u might want to get a small porta potty. That way you don't have to use a public restroom. Happy travels great build, very frugal.

Nicely done van build. In 1987 I bought a new Aerostar van. I had it for 12 years. In that time I did road trips over the entire western US and Canada. It was a reliable vehicle for me. Hope yours provides many beautiful memories for you.
That is the coolest!..well thought-out plan and execution..u are a very sharp lady..I've got a nice 88 model I want to fix up..where and how much on the wheels they look killer!
That’s AWESOME. This is what I think I want to build. I want to be be able to just hop in the van with my dog and head to the beach, lake or mountains for the weekend and not have to worry about a place to stay. I’m not trying to live in it 100%. I will be retiring in 10 years and I’m a artist and I want to head to craft fair, festivals and see the sights. I’m so inspired by these simple van life builds.

My 11 year son and I are preparing to embark on a West Coast, boarder to border adventure!..(also videos to come). Just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your videos! Have Fun!
Very neat layout. I do want to point out the location of your stove, so close to the sink frame, which is wooden and could light on fire. Measure the sixe of the area you need to protect and go to a sheet metal shop and have them cut a piece of metal roofing to screw (or nail) onto the frame, this will reduce the chances of fire.
You did a beautiful job !!! One thing I noticed though, all the weight is on one side . Water and the battery is heavy and I don't see anything to balance the weight on the other side of the van, am I wrong ????

Great job!!! Please do one thing. Secure your water tank better! If you have to stop suddenly or get into a fender bender, that tank when full will be a missal. The little tabs will not stop that tank from breaking loose and coming forward. Just a thought for your safety.

I've watched several mobile homes on the net but this one takes the Trophy, very well put up. The permanent bed is most appealing, the excellent utilization of space superb...Well done Tia!
Great setup one question can you see through your curtains or do you still need some blackout material? Invest in no-see um netting to cover your open doors. It lets air in but keeps the bugs out. And another concern with your stove oven on the floor and close to your bedding I'm a little concerned that you might catch something on fire. Stay safe
Nice build Tia, very organized, The only changes I would make is to add a porto potty, put your little stove on a slider so you can just pull it out the back door to cook on and invest in a small on demand hot water heater that operates on propane gas, they make a few that just hang on your back door, you well have to run a splitter line from your water tanks main line to the hot water heater then to your shower head.....
How much was your van conversion? I just bought a 1990 Ford Aerostar from my uncle for conversion. You’re the only other conversion I’ve been able to find for my van. Thanks in advance!
Hi Lady , The fountain consumes too much and unnecessary water. I recommend you to replace it with a more economical one. Likewise, if you replace it with one that gives 2 liters per minute in your shower, you will waste less water.. love from Turkey 💖

As others have mentioned, weight distribution is essential and both the water tank and the battery are dangerous missiles in a fender bender.
You did a great job. Bet your family is proud of you.
Nicely done! A well designed and executed build. Nice to see smaller builds Looks very comfy and homey. Happy trails!

Tia your grandma rocks for making the curtains. Enjoy the time you have with grandparents. They have so much to share that you will miss later. Well organized travel van. Nice.

Hee hee, she did all the tricky stuff but grandma sewed the curtains. It's all terrific btw.
I also believe you are missing the requisite ukulele. ;)
Take that extra material and make a curtain to cover the sink..
