  • My first time using a chainsaw mill. I will be using the MK-IV 36" mill with my Stihl MS 460 with a 36" bar and a Granberg ripping chain. I give a few of my tips that I found helpful in setting up the mill for the first. I give my thoughts on this product as well as a few cheap upgrades that I a have made to greatly improve the milling process and see the red oak boards.

Great work, and the oiler is a great addition to the mill, as is the use of the boat winch to pull the saw. Glad to see the Stihl back in operation after the mid-project piston replacement. A lot of people with rural property think about doing this and this is a great practical guide to slicing boards out of a tree without injuring yourself in the process and without destroying your saw. The tip on ratcheting the drying boards down to prevent avoidable cupping and warping, etc. was important to ultimately getting a useful finished product, particularly after all the work involved in cutting the boards.

I keep eyeballing that sawdust you are creating, and wondering if that would not be a decent ground leveling material! Muddy Field and Overgrown Field are lower - but it is all relatively flat - thankfully, they did build up the area for the house, and it is on the highest spot of the property! You can say that again and it would cost as much as the mill. Thanks for your comment.

Playing the "all" list - I saw that other video with you towing the Agri-Fab box behind you (weed and feed?) Anyway, I need a towable to pull behind my mower to tote things to our compost pile... Agri-Fab has that 17 cubic foot poly cart with tilt... it has a $50 discount and free shipping, so I might just grab that. I need to start trimming trees so I can mow the fields faster (without getting smacked by the low branches!) - painfully too funny!

This is one of the best chain saw mill video presentations I've seen. Great camera set-up, angles, editing etc. which 'self explains' your process. Well done. Thank you.

Well, that was a much better evolution. Nothing burnt up and you got a whole log done. Lots of work, huh? That wood kind of reminds me of when we found old wood bleacher seats down in the woods of the property we bought when I was a kid. Somebody got ahold of some of the old wood bleacher seats out of the Gators football field when they changed from wood to aluminum and built their kids a fort in the woods out of them. My dad dragged them things up to the house and spent weeks cleaning them up and varnishing them and then turned them into beautiful shelves in our living room. They still had the seat numbers on them. lol Now those were a great conversation piece.

Mr Trunk. Humm bad WiFi here. Wow you are way ahead of what we used in the 1800s .
You would die if you saw all the trees with excellent lumber in it just laying in the National park. I hope this WiFi holds up
