I've got a Sirrus X 4.0 with a few upgrades (wheels, GRX crankset, wider bars). It's my go to for everything that isn't a smashy road ride and it's great fun. I just call it a hybrid, it floats between so many types of bike that it gets annoying to try and categorize it 😋 As long as you get out and enjoy riding your bike, call it whatever you want!
Curious what wheels you’ve put on the bike. I’ve recently added MB pedals to my Sirrus X and an SRAM S300 crankset (48t) for more resistance and speed. Looking to add these wheels because I like the look but also considering some budget options with spokes.
Dave, that bike has the same geometry of the BMC URS AL; is a Gravel Bike with progressive geometry. The only difference is the flat bar and the suspension.
I have a mixture of bikes like you Dave, even an ebike for commuting. The best bike is the one that suits the ride you've planned. Even my turbo trainer bike is fun sometimes, if I'm watching the right RUclips channel....I do find that if you have to have suspension on a bike for the trail, then it probably requires MTB tyres too, and flat bars for control.
6 spoke is awesome! can you test that wheel @dave on some proper trails? wanted to hear your thoughts how strong that wheelset is on the single track! awesome video
Hi mate, I am going to buy one of these bikes. I am a bit torn between getting a size large or size XL. Just wondering what size is your bike and what height are you?
5:13 COWS! Lmao! I have the most fun on my crossbike. It seems to fit me best. I don't know, I was sorta thinking drop handlebars would look good on that bike. It still needs a Kiddo Van Gogh paint jpb though.
I read on another video to size up ie get a Large if I'm normally a Medium. Anyone have experience with this bike? Shop nearby has a Medium I'm interested in.
Sorry but yes, it's an XC mountain bike. Modernized. Suspension with drop bars is just wrong. That is a nice all-around bike. Cheers from sunny Florida! 😁
Way too many rules around gravel/cross/action/hybrid. Looks like a great bike and the wheels are a nice upgrade and look great. What does the gravel bike have that this doesn’t? Aside from dropbars and maybe some extra mounts? I have a flat bar bike so I’m curious how dropbars or even geometry is going to differ. I have no issues on the road or on gravel so far.
Dude, to be honest, I don't care about the bike. I just came to see how capable are those wheels. But since I saw what you did with them, I guess they are legit for riding off road, and I think you just sold them in the best way to the public, because the other rims that look similar are the ones from bike ahead bi turbo and nobody made a video riding them like you did+ they are like 2000€ more expensive than the Chinese ones, so thanks for the video. That's how you market a product to the public 😊
@@DaveNoakes small update today i had become the wheels , some weeks faster than it should be :D so maybe today or tomorrow i can start with a clean up and install all what is needed :)
The only drop bar gravel bike that a suspension fork looks right on is the Cannondale Slate with the lefty. You mentioned the word 'cross, so as well as the obligatory #crossiscoming I was wondering if you were gonna go and video or compete at the masters worlds CX this December? It's in the UK again this year (Suffolk?)...
Was looking at a used slate and opted with this beauty. Pulled the trigger after seeing Dave ride it. I think of it as a middler or ATB. Spec and geo and ride feel: it mosdef isn't a hybrid or a gravel bike. Dave's right, it's just fun! Commuter, climb and descend, bit of single track, bike packing bike at 25lbs. Who cares! It's perfect for me! Whatever you ride if you wake up looking forward to getting on the saddle does it matter what it's called?
Brands categorise their bikes for hype and sales. If you enjoy riding your road bike down a mountain bike trail, who cares, it’s for your enjoyment not anybody else’s. If you really want to put the bikes into a category then I think the best term is ATB (All Terrain Bike) that way is a generalised term for lots of categories of bikes and there’s less room for arguments. But then again this is on the interweb, the home of hate and arguments. With regards to the actual bike Dave, I love it, especially with those wheels on and as you said it made you happy to ride it.
most fun bike is for sure a rigid mtb or a big tire gravelbike. i still love my fullsize (180/160, 17kg) enduro. if it gets rough every trailbike sucks and bikeparks without a dh or enduro suck as well. so maybe u need two. a heavy undestroyable enduro and a light fun xc/rigid/gravel racer.
I totally see why you'd choose this bike as a first gravel bike if your experience is with gravity mtb. You can't really get sendy on a rigid carbon fork on a drop bar gravel bike. I think if you want to test more bikes on stairsets the place to go is coalchester, but maybe that's only if today is going to be epic.
No apologizing for being a Dad. Nice bike. Maybe it's just an off road bike. Not a road bike!!! To many categories of bikes. Ride where they'll go. Take care, Al
Gravel bikes for the win (for me) and you're right about suspension forks... A massive NO. At the end of the day, if you enjoy riding it, who cares. Oh, and those wheels... Nah mate 😂
a gravel bike is a bike that you ride on gravel "by definition" although that would mean that my full sus trail bike has been a gravel bike lately and also my XC Hardtail...... oh and my gravel bike that i take on single track and some mtb trails.... wait a minute. not a fan of a sus fork on drop bar bike myself but each to their own i guess
Josh Tomac rode a drop bar xc bike in the 1990 world championships ruclips.net/video/M5JLecZKwpw/видео.html Mountain bikes are definitely the best smiles to mile ratio but I do love riding my fixed gear around. Am saving up for a gravel bike
Just ride it and enjoy it for what it is rather than the label it comes under. Its all about the ride. Suspension fork or rigid I don't mind, same with the bars, although I reckon drop bars should have rigid forks.
bars don't determine what qualifies as a gravel bike, the surface the bike rides on does imho Think this is the most logical gravel bike you have for conditions in the UK and it's substantially cooler than your drop bar bike.
@@DaveNoakesNo music whatsoever people want to hear the ratchet rear wheel hub sound when ur riding. The last thing anyone wants is some garbage music ruining what is otherwise a perfect ride in a perfect scenery.
Love those wheels. Literally gonna bag one of these you've tipped me over the decision point.😊
They are dead good!
It’s a hybrid marketed as a flat bar gravel bike to make it sound cooler.

Its a high end hybrid.

Well said
To me it’s a mix of a hardtail mountain bike and a hybrid bike, gets you from A to B which is all good 👍

Excellent review and very entertaining!
Thank you
2:30. What is all those leaves about. Is it autumn already.
Love the wheels. Reminds me of Mag wheels from the 80's.
Hi mate, I am going to buy one of these bikes. I am a bit torn between getting a size large or size XL. Just wondering what size is your bike and what height are you?
I have the large one and am 186cm
What size tires have you been able to fit and what brands?
2.25 from Goodyear I haven’t tried others yet.
The best bike is whichever one your riding. Pick the bike that suits the terrain your predominately going to ride and get on with it. 😃

I did notice the fancy wheels when our paths crossed under Penn Inn on Saturday morning...
Great video, could you tell me the make and model of those rims, I’m assuming they’re super expensive, but they look sweet
Thanks Dave....no worries ! A bike is a bike is a bike....they are all fun . Road and off road ? Horses for courses , eh ?
Tenacious D joke had me 😂😂 I love your reviews because they are real
Looks a fun mach8ne Dave👍🏽 Well done for full-on Dad-stuff too.
It’s a bike that becomes a label depending on how you choose to ride it, main thing is you had fun !👍
Exactly 👍🏽👍🏽
Good to see the cows again! Oh and RIDE ALL THE BIKES!
It’s a Hybrid bike! …and i love it😜🤘🏼
Judging from what you’re doing with it I’d call it a “high-end recreational Atb”. 😉😋
Yes children - the All Terrain Bike is back from the 80’s

i guess this type of wheels would look super with a lauf fork 🙂 in some weeks i should get some and than i can take a closer look on it how it looks.

Which bike is this?
What bike is it?
It’s the Marin DSX FS
A gravel bike is a bike for roadies to dip their toes into off roading without losing face with their roadie mates 🤭

all rounder bike

Get it entered in Devon Grit next weekend and thrash it round Woodbury Common👍🏻

Recreational hardtail? All terrain bike? or just Mountain bike 🤪
I call that just hybrid bike... but those wheels are soooooo koool

No gravel around here. Road and mountain are it. No need for a custom blended bike without an identity.
