If you're going to London, invest time in as many of Jess' videos as possible, AND purchase one of her itineraries. That's truly all you need to be well prepared and have a wonderful trip. We went back in December and felt prices were comparable to here in the US. We opted to stay at Park International Hotel, which offered a free breakfast when booked directly with them. It was conviently located near Glocester tube station. There is also a Waitrose right at the tube , so we opted to eat lunch out and then pick up food for the dinner there to take back to the room (another great budget saver). Once in London, we didn't pay for anything as far as sightseeing or attractions; there's so much to do for free, and it was nice to just take in the city and come and go as we pleased. And, thanks to the L&L itinerary, we saw A LOT. We feel like we had a very full, enjoyable experience and can't wait to go back!

As someone else has mentioned Premier Inns adjacent to train stations 15 mins out of town are generally cheaper but quick to get into city centre. Those north of the Thames also have the benefit of access to tube as well as train. I have used Premier Inns at Harrow and Wembley Park. Welwyn Garden City is also convenient for train and then tube connection. All of these all of these hotels are less than 5 mins from the station. Woolwich is also convenient for Elizabeth line. There is also one other to east of London immediately adjacent to overground station (Canning Town…. Convenient for Docklands Light Railway and Jubilee line£

We always stay at the Premier Inn near East Croydon station and take the train into London Victoria or London Bridge in less than 20 minutes after the peak. £4.20 each way using an Oyster card, and the nightly rates are a hell of a lot cheaper than staying in central London.

So glad you're promoting the TfL buses! We found the underground much more difficult to navigate with a cane, and of course the sightseeing is so much better from the bus, especially if you have a long ride and can get to the top deck.

Look for places with water along. 😀
For instance The Riverside near Vauxhall is a great and romantic spot, when it's for diner. The view over Thames is wide and you can see the sun going down very well.
Romantic walk in the evening: start at Paddington Basin near Paddington station and walk into the sunset, following the canal, strolling through Little Venice.
When people do not disturb your romance: just sit at Canalside Green Steps, at Granary Square.

If you are from California you will find prices for accommodations pretty comparable to London ( unless you have 3 people in one room needing real beds not a couch) but the day to day food is MUCH cheaper. Wraps, sandwiches, takeaway sushi, Doner shops and groceries are easily 30% less than the equivalent in CA. Fine dining however is about the same as CA. This was such a fun discovery. My teenagers bought every snack they wanted. 😅

Many of the merchants at Mercado run lunch specials during the week. We had bowls of pasta and red gravy at an Italian stand for 6 pounds then finished it off at the cafe that sold a gelato w/ an espresso for 5. And it was super good, all of it. I also saw pizza slice deals and pho bowl specials.

Excellent tips! It's great that you explain the transport discount options for kids, that under 11 year olds travel for free and 11-15 can get a Young Visitor discount, and where to get it. Although it's not obvious where to get the young visitor discount when coming from the airport to central London through other means other than the tube (e.g. Elizabeth line train). As a family it's always a challenge to understand what the best cost-effective options are when travelling. It's also super expensive to travel as a family. Maybe a tip for you (and a good business opportunity perhaps?) is to include more information for families in your videos? I'd love to see videos like these but focused on families. Something like "Tips for families on a budget". Keep up the good work!

One thing I found out by accident - during school holiday seasons, the London School of Economics (LSE) will rent out their student dorms and apartments as hotels - depending on the location and time of year, you can find a really cheap dorm/apartment ranging from 60-100 per night. They're not super fancy, but if you just need a decent place and you probably won't spend tons of time in your room, I'd recommend it. Most of them offer either free breakfast or full English and many of them are located close to tube stations, it's definitely worth checking out to save some money.

I cannot find hotels with windows that open. I want to be able to air out the room when I check in and limit my chances of getting ill while traveling. However, hotel websites never list if the windows open or not. Even luxury hotels do not have windows that open unless there's some sort of terrace on a very expensive suite. I don't like airbnb and other short term. If you're ever looking for a topic to cover London hotels with windows that open is one that there's virtually no info on and would be appreciated. I tend to stay in West London areas near Maida Vale. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Contactless cards do not benefit from weekly caps if your week does not run from a Monday to a Sunday. It seems the weekly travel card is a good option for Zones 1 and 2: at 42 pounds it is a lot cheaper than 7 x the daily cap of 8 pounds.

@loveandlondon - sure, but it's still cheap - you have places where beer can cost £14 now!

I didn't find it expensive to visit at all...I'm not posh though. I found Switzerland expensive.

I would not recommend an Oyster card at all, you have to buy one & that thing used to eat all my money compared to just using contactless.
If you’re visiting from abroad though then there will be charges for using your debit card abroad so you’ll need to put your money on a travel card or something

Yup! Lots of options for cards that don't charge foreign currency fees ❤️
