    Love this video carol ! I’ve never never done a soft cover but have used “heat and bond” (in the US) on heavy card board for fabric covers. I used to volunteer at a primary school and the children would write and illustrate their own stories and myself and a group of ladies would use this method to cover then we would bind them into a book for the children to keep or gift. Thanks again for a great tutorial. 💕

    Thank you for sharing your technique, Carol! As a lifetime stitcher and quilter, I prefer this technique to using folders. My only concern is if the needle gets gummy from the adhesive on the pellon and the fabric glue (?). Another technique for covers I just started using is printing on inkjet art canvas available on Amazon. I love the results!

    Thank you for sharing! Here in the US we have a product from Pellon that I have been using for my soft cover journals. Peltex 72F ultra firm stabilizer, double-sided fusible. I am not sure if it is available in the UK. I had been gluing the fabric on with fabri-tac which gets pricey as you have said! It's our quilting background that is showing!!! When I make my paper bag journals I fuse the fabric using Steam-a-seam 2 and that works great! I had an entire roll of the stuff left from quilting days so was really happy to find a use for it. I laughed when I saw your cover because I have that newsprint fabric from making a cat quilt. I might have to make this using my leftovers and I think Mrs. Cog has a cat set as well. How did you make your pictures full size? I don’t remember them being this big. I love all three of your books. Have a nice day.

    Hi Carol, new subscriber here! I love how you make your soft journal covers! I'm new at journal making and I really don't want to use paper for my journal covers as I've seen in so many videos. I learned how to sew at age 13 by my mom, so I won't have any issues with sewing. I want to use this beautiful piece of black velvet fabric that I have without messing it up, being as I'm new to journal making. Would this method work for the velvet fabric too? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🤗 Thank you for this video!

    Hi there Miss Carol I wanted to let you know that I’m a huge fan of yours! I love your journals!! I do have a question though. I’ve been working on a fairy journal and it’s 18 pages folded in half making it 36 pages. I’ve embellished it heavily so it’s very chunky. Do you think this method would work for my journal or would you suggest splitting it and making two journals? I have also considered making the soft spine but that’s not what I had envisioned for the journal. I really like the soft cover. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I have even wondered if it would work if I used the soft cover method and tried sewing in two signatures.

    • @carollaws838
      @carollaws838  2 года назад

      Hi, so if you have 18 sheets of paper, thats 72 sides (front and back). My journals have 20 sheets in, so 80 pages front and back - I do fill my journals, and the soft cover works just fine. You could split the pages into 2 signatures, I have made the soft covers with 2 signatures - just be sure to add a enough to wrap around, and a gap between the signatures, same as you would with a hard cover - hope that makes sense - good luck!
