FAQ's
Q: I have to perform this static discharge every time for my computer to turn on :(
A: Your most likely looking at a bad charger or battery then. Also, make sure that your using a surge protector instead of plugging your charger directly into the outlet. Make sure its healthy and still working well. If thats not it, you can try replacing the battery and charger one at a time till you find the one that is the cause.
Q: I dont have a battery thats easily removable :(
A: For help accessing an internal battery, refer to this video; • How To Fix - Asus Lapt...
If you know your computer's model number, I can help you get inside your specific computer :)
Q: My computer is overheating and wont turn on. Will this help?
A: So to troubleshoot a computer that wont turn on, I would usually say to start with this video. However, an overheating computer can damage multiple components, make multiple components act in weird ways, and therefor makes it very hard to troubleshoot which components are the cause of the computer not turning on. You should try to address the overheating first. You can see that process here; • How To Fix Overheating...
Q: Why does this power build-up issue happen? How can I prevent it?
A: Make sure your using your computer plugged into a surge protector and not directly into the wall. Also, make sure to not use your computer around large sources of static like in bed, on pillows, etc. Repair tech wear anti-static bracelets when working on computer or put the on anti-static pads. Even though the computer case means you dont have to go that far, try not to use the computer around heavy static sources.
Q: I tried this and it didnt work
A: If none of these troubleshooting steps were able to identify the parts being tested as the issue, then you have identified the Motherboard as the most likely cause of the computer not starting. It would then have to be replaced or repaired. Let me know if you would like assistance with that operation :) Наука

Hello, as you might recall, a week ago, my friend who’s visiting, lost his luggage, after his laptop failing to work back on July 8, just a few days shy of his visit. The power cord and supply have been purchased from Dell as of Monday of this week, and as of today, the shipment arrived, including the power cord and power supply for the laptop. Shortly after 9:00 PM Eastern this evening, I sat down, listened to this video I’m commenting on, and after following the first 3 minutes of steps in this video, I had his laptop fully operational and working again. Thank you for providing such a useful tutorial in how to fix a dead laptop that won’t turn on. In my case, it really helped a lot.

WOW thank you! It worked!! I would have never thought about this. I completely removed the battery and now it works. I had an old HP laptop I didn't turn on in years. I could see the logo, the sign-in button but then after pressing the sign-in button, it was switching off. It looked weird...it wasn't just turning off instantly, it looked like loosing luminosity at first and then was turning off.
Glad your all set :) Always here if needed !!
Amazing video! Thank you so much!! I managed to get my laptop booted. There is one glitch, it doesn't STAY working. I followed your steps and I can get it started by: disconnecting the internal battery AND CMOS, then hold down the power button for 1 minute. Finally, I leave the batteries unplugged but connect the A/C and it boots and works perfectly! So, I power off, connect the battery and CMOS and it powers up. On just battery, it works. Then I connect the AC and it charges the battery. All looks good. However, overnight, I am back to square one and have to open the case and disconnect batteries, hold power and start all over.
I tested the RAM and hard drive and they pass the HP tests. I have an old HP Elitebook 840G3 (problem laptop is 840G5) and the A/C adapters are fine.
The BIOS was updated and I used HP Support Assistant to install all the latest drivers. I tried Win11 and Win10 -> same issue.
Thanks again for your amazing videos!

Thanks for your informative videos. Here is my situation.I was recently given a Lenovo G570 laptop, with 4 gigabytes of ram and an HDD.Another stick of memory was added. It showed and was working fine. Then a new SSD was purchased, but during cloning, which was taking a long time, the charger stopped working, the battery drained and the computer shut down.
After buying a new charger and letting it run overnight, the laptop didn't start. The steps of discharging, like in the video, were performed, but with the same result.
Right now,the back cover and keyboard/palm rest are taken off, showing most of the motherboard,to do a bios reset.
My question, where is the CMOS battery on model?I've looked online, but haven't found a picture or video, showing the location, only people stating that it's soldered to the motherboard.
That's where I'm at and thanks for any help.

I am impatient and wanted to try a short cut and just held the on/off switch down for a minute without removing the battery or power supply and BOOM! my computer came right up and I am watching it charge. 29% so far. I need to finish a school application and I only have a couple days left I'm finna cry
What brand and model computer do you have and whats the issue with it?
I fixed it! Even though I did the multimeter test, the problem was still the charger.
First, thank you for your excellent video! My Lenovo laptop showed no signs of working at all and this video led me in the right direction to fix it.
Second, sometimes a charger fails, and even though a multimeter reads 20V of potential, there is not sufficient current to supply the computer with enough power. This is what happened in my case, so for those of you who are worried that it might be your motherboard even after you've done all these tests, it might not be.
Here's how I solved my problem:
I took a separate power adapter that fit inside my laptop's power port, and with aligator clips and stripped wire, connected the power adapter to a verified working laptop charger with a 20V output. I then plugged it into the laptop and saw a light come on, verifying that it was a problem with the charger.
At this point, I wanted to know if it was a problem with the charger's power supply or with the connecting adapter, so I cut the cord in half, stripped the wires on the side of the sliced cord that had the connecting adapter, and using alligator clips, connected the sliced cord up to my working 20V laptop power supply and plugged it in. This powered on the computer, allowing me to determine that it was the charger's power supply and not the connecting adapter that had failed.
My last step was to solder the connecting adapter to an old 20V power supply, using heat shrink to keep the internal cables from shorting out. This gave me a good as new power charger, which turned my laptop on, and solved the problem.
Thanks again!
Glad your all set :) Always here if needed !!
