In 2013 I visited Ukraine. I rented a one room apartment near the city center of Odessa for $45 a night for a week, but the exchange rate was 8 grivna to the dollar then. I stayed at the Slavutych hotel in Kiev for a week, and it was about the same price daily too. Slavutych was a 3 star hotel. Food in supermarkets was very cheap. Food at restaurants which cater to tourists was higher priced.
Yeah it was in the United States but I lived in dormitory for several years. It was crowded but wasn't that bad. The biggest con was lack of privacy and very limited room, not much room for personal belongings. Also, restrictions on what you can do in the dorm (no drinking or smoking, for example). The big pro, however, was it was very easy to make friends and do things together/ hang out together. I have both good and bad memories about dormitory years, but there are more good memories.
Olga I like our videos . They are always informative. You carefully explain everything. And you are effervescent ! It is also endearing that when ever you can you incorporate your family. Every little thing you do shows and illiterates Ukrainian people, culture ans society. Great job Olga !! Thank You -------
i ben here in dnipropetrovsk since Wednesday its Saturday i not even spend $50. transportation going out to eat with 3 friends at nice restaurant and i know i know stop smoking but 10 packs of cigarettes .thank you for video and my you and your family have a blessed day
A suggestion my dear Olga Reznikova. If you can to write in English what you are talking about in your videos below. This would be great for us beginners
When I think of Japan, Canada, the US or Australia, the cost of living is much higher than in Ukraine for foreign students. I found Britain an expensive place to be a tourist when I was there, with the high pound (relative to most currencies) a big factor.
not everything is true about dormitory. I have studied 6 years in Kharkiv and lived all the time in a dormitory. We had a really nice dormitory. Besides, it helps you very much to find new friends and to establish social contacts!
For people with a little higher standard of living- Ukraine is a haven. If you have 6-10K$/month to spend (depending where- cities only) on living costs- you can live like a oligarch. But if you're short on cash and want good food for your money, here's a lifehack: find out where the best shawarma place is in your city. (In Dnepropetrovsk it's "Turetskaya Shawarma" in the Avtovokzal. Pick up a litre of grapefruit beer from More Pivo and dig in: you're welcome.)
I think I can survive here easier here. I had been living in India for some times and with what i had been going thru there, guess I can overcome to live here bcs once you can survive in india, you can survive anywhere
Very good video!!! Many university students live together in apartments near campus and they divide the cost of the rent and the bills, many of them become vegetarian because they can't buy meat or fish, but the most important thing for students is internet, we can't live without internet hahaha.
I'm doing you a favor... avoid the buses at all cost. It's nut to butt standing room only. They won't open a window because they think a breeze will make them sick. Budget for cabs only.
I currently live in Ukraine and i hate it. So difficult to get a place to stay or they will over price and try to cheat you. if they cant cheat you they will tell you to live. And this is happening in kiev. You call to get a place and someone tells you they dont want foreigners in their house. Can you imagine that. And not just once but all the time. And it is so wild spread that you hardly get a place. But they want to go to usa and uk and live like its normal. Imagine trying to get a place in Uk and someone everytime they tell you no foreigners allowed. Wont that be crazy?
thanks Olga to explain a lot of things , in fact I plan to study in Ukraine lets keep in touch to know in details about universities and living and traveling inside Ukraine , could you ?
+amaromem1 I almost went with a woman from Ukraine who had birthday on Valentine Day. If I married her I would have wished her Happy-Valens-Birth-Versary ;- )
Nice video description, I have a friend that lives in Kanevskaya and she told me that with $10 her family & her can eat for a whole week. M question to you is would you say that's true, how far is it from Kiev?
+Borreguito Torices I don't know where is kanevskaya... Yes, it's true, you can eat with 10$ whole week, but it depends what you eat)) For example, I spend 10$ every day in shop. You know, nobady in Ukraine is hungry. Even with very law salary, high quality products cost expensive, but law quality products cost cheap.
Could you add me on Facebook? I understand but she said with $10 she can buy eggs, bread, milk, water and essential items to eat good. Now she doesn't work much but when she does she gets $1.00 a day.
1400 UAH or something like that. It's 55$, If devide it into 22 working days, it's 2,5$) Yes, it's not so much..... but it's minimum... This minimum has people who work in state organization and establishements.. If you work in privat company, you have much more)))
I have a question about taxes if a foreigner like me buys a house or an apartment in Ukraine. What taxes would I have to pay the government if I bought a house or an apartment in Ukraine. What would be my yearly costs after buying the property? Not including bills of course.
+Jon J The food in Ukraine is AMAZING. You won't need food from US or Europe. I lived in west Ukraine for 3 years and I think I went to Macdonalds in L'viv twice.
I lived in Indonesia for 2 years as a kid. Trust me, you miss your fav snacks and food from home. I have not eaten at McD's since 1990 Christopher Haist
Is it really from 50 dollars per month in the dorms? I know you said you didn't know exactly but I am asking because in Russia I paid about 10 dollars per month. And I assumed (probably wrongly) Russia would be more expensive. I mean, most students in my country, the Czech Rep. manage to live quite comfortably on about 300 dollars per mont total and I thought in my country the expenses would be much bigger than in Ukraine.
Yes i am wondering a bit too, about the prices - just like in slovakia . I thought it would be cheaper in ua, i mean food and accomodation.. Greetings From slovakia :)
Given that the average salary in Ukraine is less than 350$ how are the flats in microdistricts so expensive for rent (I assume you have to pay for utilities as well on top of the 350). Is there a big income inequality betwean places like Kiev and smaller citys? How do the average Ukrainain participates in the rent market, do Ukrainian people rent flats a lot at all?
Having multiple generations in a single household is likely more common than it is in the west, and it's possible that working under the table is more common which wouldn't show up in official average income statistics.
any chance you can reveal to me the price of whiskey and cigarettes? over here in canada its outrageously overpriced. so i guess you can assume id like to spend my college years where boozing a little isnt going to break the bank
Good whiskey are mostly imported from the other countries, so the price probably the same, as in Canada. Like 0.5 L bottle of Jack Daniels costs about 14$. You can find cheaper propositions but I don't recommend you to drink that bootleg moonshine bullshit or whatever, if you don't want to die. Box of cigarettes (20pcs) costs 0.5-1$.
Hej Olga, is it easy to rent a room among Ukraines? like in a small house? I know it´s possible in other countries(Poland,Denmark, slovakia) The problem is that they most likely don´t speak english, but is there a site , where you can see people renting a room for a month or something? thanks
But firstly I would like to recommend you find some friends in Ukraine. Maybe they will allow you to live in their apartments. Anyway, if you will walk around on your own probably you'll be ripped off everywhere. Many people are poor here so they won't loose a chance to earn more from the foreigners. So watchout. Find your kinda "guide'. Buy stuff in chain supermarkets, it's safer and they have the same price for citizens and foreign tourists.
Advice*. If u want to visit or study chose liviv if u want to live in a place that resamples the EU. Kiev is also modern and nice, Odessa for tourism. And that’s it don’t go anywhere else, all other places r full of corruption and the worst education especially Kharkiv, if u want cheap nearly free beautiful girls and alcohol that is cheaper than bottled water (REALLY) sure go for it but for education and making money u better off going to Somalia or North Korea.
No doubt u r helpful .. some say let me show u my apartment ..never tell u how much he is paying/utility bills/food as ur pocket ..the area n city name .. just wasting ur time ..showing u door locks...Thanx Olga ...Khan
And can plz explain us more about that company or services that in Ukraine they asked us to come to Ukrain and join to study most of them r Arabic ppl They call us to Apply by them if we want to study there while we don't even know if it's true or fake , so is that right the Universities in Ukraine can not receive any student from board only if he/she comes by that services who make Inscription for Students ?

Can you help me out in renting an apartment like 1 room with attached bathroom for a month I the cheapest price? Please please pleaseeeeeeeeeee help me out
People who are involved in tourism like tour guides to Chernobyl and drivers will sometimes only accept dollars or euros. But the average business only accepts UAH.
You can easily exchange your money here. Probably all the popular currencies like us dollars, euros, russian roubles, pounds, other stuff.. gold bars.. everything

+Andrej Lenčéš I think people must understand English, because everybody study it at school.
in Uzhgorod flat can be a little bit cheaper
+Olga Reznikova Thats good, anyway I would like to learn ukrainian / russian language. And about long-term renting of flats - how cheap per month ? I just wonder how can an ukrainian earning 100-120 EUR equivalent per month rent a flat for 150 EUR equivalent per month plus expenditures for food and other basics ?????? Thanks :*
people who earn 100EUR don't rent apartment)))) Or they earn more money It's simple math ;-)
(100EUR is less than average salary, especially for Kiev)...
Mostly people has their own apartment.. So they don't need to rent it. It happens if they earn a lot of money and want to live apart from parents (if they are adult alreadty) or when they go to other city.In that case they can rent one-room apartment and live 3-4 person there...
