As I've mentioned before, this song was my first experience of Sleep Token. I actually heard it totally by accident back in late 2018. I was busy doing decorating and had left autoplay enabled on RUclips and this was one of the random songs played. Thing was even months later, I still couldn't get that synth line out of my head. So after a lot of searching I finally tracked down this song only to discover other songs by them. The next one I heard was The Offering from Sundowning and that was it, I was hooked! Great reaction guys! Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
Jaws has always felt a bit like for the first time, the brakes were off for ii. The EPs were out, their world was built and now he can push the envelope. And not being tied to anything else as a stand-alone, there were no concessions. Style-wise this was the line of delineation between "will they like this" and "you will like this."
Yeah i don’t think that’s true at all lol been a fan for years and never heard that😂 I have always heard that the videos should be switched and it’d be more fitting lyrically so i get that. As for the studio messing up, that would be fixed immediately and especially since both videos are released a year apart from another
It was fascinating to see how both of you instinctively reacted to the gun and blood coming into the story visually. Yet Vessel had already sung about showing someone their own insides, watched her eat tape in a bathroom mirror, and said he was going to teach her what a hollow point bullet would do to a naked body. It was jarring for me , too, at first. How do you pull away from the music, and that voice, though? Such is the conundrum of loving Sleep Token, whether you buy into the lore or not. I'm so grateful i am able to revisit the music in order with you two. My experience began in the most disordered way. Glad to have you two sharing the experience with me. Love and light!
Same for me! Have not been so in to a band since…..well, maybe ever. I heard the track the Offering a couple years ago on a reaction channel, and it blew me away. Next listened to this track and I was hooked. In the span of 2 years they have become my all time favorite band, pushing aside bands like Pink Floyd, Tool, The Cure. I come back to watch these reactions to help me relive the 1st listen I had to all these tracks. Enjoy the journey, they don’t have bad songs!
Jaws is the first time we hear a chorus that could be easily digested in mainstream radio. We are seeing growth musically from all the parts and it’s becoming tighter. II definitely is starting to stretch his drum verbiage. So the video to this is depicting the scene described in Nazareth. I don’t buy this was a mistake from the studio. Jaws was released a year after Nazareth so I don’t think it was a flub. Everything with Sleep Token is calculated and intentional. As in Jericho he says “Until I wake I dine on old encounters.” This is what he is doing here. Sleep has just taken it to a new level and has started muddling the memories more. Because I think we are seeing her insert herself into the memory too. So not only is Vessel grieving the loss of Eden with every replay, he is cementing that Sleep has been around longer and longer than she actually has. All to get him broken internally, maybe a little afraid of life without her. She is a calming presence through everything and maybe blurring the lines between who Eden was and who Sleep is. “Stand under the stained glass and I will know it’s you.” He’s seeing Sleep as a heavenly being. A literal Godsend and he’s aware at least that she is in the room as all this is playing out. He is being consumed by Sleep. He wants this. He wants her pretty white jaws to sink in. He wants to feel the passion inside her. He’s desperate for the level of affection he feels for her to be returned unto him. This is going to be a common theme for the entirety of the story because Sleep is incapable of love. And furthermore Vessel is incapable of real love. He says the right things and the romantic things and he has real romantic feelings but like Calcutta’s video showed Sleep is wearing a mask and Vessel doesn’t know it, as Vessel is wearing a mask because Sleep requires it. Neither conducive for a healthy relationship. “I’m not here to be the saviour you long for only the one you don’t.” Vessel is saying he is not worthy to be with Sleep. He is acknowledging his humanity and his flaws and he is trying to push through anyway. Not really dealing with the trauma swirling around him just kind of going through it. More red flags on Vessel’s part. “I believe we are caged and always provoked by prey left unattended” this is Sleep calling Vessel literal prey. I’m assuming Vessel would see that as “yeah, come get me baby!” While Sleep is literally saying she is feeding off him. She has decided to spend more time with him. She will come and be more permanent and Vessel is floored. I love that both Nazareth and Jaws end with that high synth pattern that sounds like emergency vehicles. Jaws is a bit more disjointed where as Nazareth is more straightforward. But I think that could be a hint that the memory is the same but Sleep is corrupting the data. Worship.
Jaws was the first ST song i heard and was hooked on the voice, atmosphere and those freaking drums. Then I listened to sundowning. 5-ish years later and i still listen to sundowning regularly as well as everything else they've released since. Enjoy the journey.
So cool to see your excitement grow for this band - they will take over your music life! 😊🤘🤩 ….and gotta get some merch! I heard they broke the all time merch selling record at their Wembley gig, outselling the previous record holders The Rolling Stones!!
Hi, have you two ever heard of a band called Nightwish? If not i would recommend watching them perform a song called Ghost Love Score and to watch the "Live" at Wacken video. If you do i hope you will enjoy and be prepared for the Nightwish army of fans to invade you lol. (Watch out for the drummer in the band towards the end he is giving it his all)
Ha, when you make it through the discography, you need to watch the video that II did with Drumeo. Basically an hour long set, and the first time any member of the band has done a live interview. Absolute master at his craft.
I don't know if you are going to read me but. 1st, Sleep token is art, their music is a care to the soul. 2nd you might be full of requests for your next videos, so if it's not a bother i'd like to make another recomendations. 1. Three days grace. 2. Breaking Benjamin 3. Loathe 4. Starset 5. Chevelle 6. RED. 7. Spiritbox

hahaha love it! He went for it and it paid off! What a tune! Thanks for the comment 🙂
The rumor is that video was supposed to be Nazareths video and the studio messed up, I have no proof, though.

That's so interesting! I wonder what actually happened! Thanks for commenting 🙂

There’s still the single for “The Way That You Were” before the albums. They also did a cover of “Hey Ya” before Sundowning.
The Way that You Were gets overlooked far too often!
The Way That You Were should never be overlooked. It's such an integral piece to the flow of the story.
Couldn't agree more!! @@froggie1
We will be doing this one very very soon! Can't wait! Thanks for commenting 🙂
Fantastic reaction guys, you can really get to hear II'S incredible drumming in this song... WORSHIP 🫶
Thank you so so much for your lovely words 🙂
The drumming on this track is on another level. Can't wait until you start on the first album 🥳

As always we are floored by your responses! This is so epic stuff! Thank you for your time and effort to share this with us all 🙂
"You never really love, you just hate to be alone"
Also I love how the lyrics almost always have two meanings.
@@Bibyte this is facts. And it is just so brilliant.
I feel like this is your most accurate analysis yet. Insane!
