      I'm just going to use a Sylvan Language Arts workbook since we couldn't afford much but I like what your set teaches! I would've gotten something more like TGTB if I could've. Lol

      I pieced it together and I was never a fan of a one size fits all program. I still make my daughter read out loud and we read to them at night even though most people stop that. The comprehension and reading is actually strong for my two readers. Grateful for that.

    We’re halfway thru level 3 and love it. My son struggled with the books in level 2 so I was hesitant to move forward but so glad I did. Their book choices are beautifully amazing. Especially the Badger Hill Farms series. It got him reading on par and love reading. ❤

    Look into Key to the Treasure, sword in the Tree by Bulla. He writes lots of good books for this age.
    My son’s favorite right now is the InvestiGators. They’re super cute graphic novels. My son is older, but struggles with LA. I have a few lessons I want him to finish from LA 2, then I like the new LA3, but he doesn’t need to do all of it. I’m not sure how he can pick our way through it while reading the new books. 😊

    I am a new homeschool mom. My son is in third grade. I would reccomend Dinosaur Club series by Rex Stone. I am a teacher, who quit, to work with my son. The dinosaur club series has 7 books and I was totally impressed with the vocabulary in the books. Vocabulary is so important!

    I am so torn on choosing between TGTB or Gather round for homeschool language arts. My kids do a blended learning here in Calgary. They attend school 2 days a week for math and science and my responsibility at home is Language Arts and Social Studies. Anyways, I keep swaying back and forth between the two and only want to choose one as we also have separate spelling, HW (tgtb) along with our social studies curriculum. There’s just not enough time to add in too much and risk burn out…….do you have some insight or what you feel you would choose if if came to choosing between the two? I know you’ve tried both….do you feel GR offers reasonable language arts?

    • @lifewithginab
      @lifewithginab  6 месяцев назад +1

      That's awesome that you can do a hybrid! Good for you! I did feel like the unit I did the language arts was lacking and not sure if it would be enough for what we were looking for. It was very history focused. Which I honestly loved. I do think Gather round has free samples... I would give them a try... and same thing with the good and the beautiful.. language arts curriculum is completely free. Try it out and see which one fits best!

    If your child does struggle with reading, what resources do you suggest would be a good option to add to the good and the beautiful?

    • @lifewithginab
      @lifewithginab  Год назад +1

      Great question... first, I would make sure my child was at the correct level. That's really important... if there is progress as we go a long ... even if it's slow progress that's a good sign. I would actually take it slow and figure out what my child is struggling with... is it the Phonics portion? Fluency? Etc. I actually could make a whole video on this... which I plan to do. If this curriculum wasn't working for my son... (maybe because of the all in one aspect) I would maybe try and take a look at a different curriculum that focused on what they were struggling with ... but I think it depends on the child and what the issues are. I wouldn't try to add more but maybe meet the child where they need to be and focus on what they are struggling with if that makes sense! Sometimes less is more :)

    • @lifewithginab
      @lifewithginab  Год назад

      Thank you so much!! So usually you can do a lesson a day (there is 120 lessons) and they recommend 4 x a week, which would equal a normal school schedule for a year. I just go with the flow and sometimes do more lessons in a week and other times less... until we finish... hope this helps :)

    This might sound like a silly question, but do you read the literature study books like “Heidi” or do they just reference the book in the course work?

    • @lifewithginab
      @lifewithginab  5 месяцев назад

      Just want to make sure I'm understanding right... the "Heidi" literature book... is the one for the good and the beautiful? (Heidi and the highland pony? I forgot the name of the book. ... The book that comes with the good and the beautiful? Or are you talking about another study?
      They books are used for vocabulary, Phonics, reading, and challenging words.

    How long does each lesson take? aside from the reading

    • @lifewithginab
      @lifewithginab  Год назад +1

      If I had to break it down, I would say (for my son)
      1.lesson anywhere from 5 to 7 mins
      2. Lessons practice anywhere from 5 to 8 mins
      3. Independent work 5 to 10 mins
      4. Shared reading 6 to 8 mins
      5. Personal reading (20 mins)
      Hope that breaks it down ❤
      The lesson, lesson practice, Independent work, and shared reading would be anywhere from 30 to 40 mins depending on the lessons and concept my son was learning. (This isn't including independent reading for 20 mins)
