Arch support, turnout, and aesthetic preference to name a few. I absolutely hate floppiness in my shoes so if there’s any air pocket at all, I can feel it and it’s distracting. I’ll do just about anything for a tight fit, especially with old shoes. I also have oddly shaped feet so getting a good fit is hard. Anything helps. And not that it should matter, but I’m 31 years old, so it’s not “a generational thing.” It’s whatever feels good for you and makes you a confident dancer.
Why on earth would you want to envelope your shoes in tape? Danced for 15 years and never once had to tape my shoes. Maybe it's a generational thing.
