    We don't get to see Trains of such length in terms of general freight, the biggest we have in Australia are in the Northern parts of Western Australia with the Iron Ore trains and probably the only place we see American Heavy Locomotive power as well,

      That Alco PA-1 is the ex Santa Fe 62L, then sold to D&H as their 18 then went to Mexico where it was eventually wrecked and retired. 20 years ago Doyle McCormack of SP 4449 fame led rescue effort for it (and one other) and he has since been restoring it (rebuild, new trucks, new prime mover, etc) as childhood fave NKP 190. It has just been sold to Genesee Valley Trans in, appropriately, PA where they, as currently the leading Alco experts, will finish the restoration job so it can begin a new excursion career on their Scranton area, and other, lines.

    • @kennethhanks6712
      @kennethhanks6712 Год назад +8

      If you go back and study the early history of railroad development, when the rails were THE primary transportation method, many towns wanted the lines to be as centrally located as possible. Especially for passenger service, and sometimes freight as well, central locations were desirable, even necessary.
      Over time many such layouts changed, modified and/or abandoned but a few, like La Grange, due to town layout, surrounding geography, etc where the cost and necessary effort excessive original layout remains. In La Grange they have embraced the arrangement and made it a surprisingly large tourist "cottage industry"-note the VR noteriety!
