So a train is coming towards you and you cannot get your car far enough to the right to get out of its way. La Grange really needs to rework that road. It wouldn’t be very difficult to do something where the railroad is in a median and vehicle traffic only goes on the sides
Not enough room for two separate lanes with a center median. Local businesses and the town itself have resisted, and will likely continue to resist, anything that restricts access to the storefronts along the street. The railroad right-of-way's land rights pre-date the existence of the town, so the town, or more likely the state of Kentucky would have to foot the bill to move the rails and pay any lost revenues to CSX. Whish, yes, has been looked into. Total bill works out to a bit over half a billion dollars, and thats assuming that all parties involved can buy land for the new right-of-way to bypass the town, which is ..... questionable.
I've said this a few times: Eliminate the parallel parking and the lane on that side. Move the rails towards where the parking was. Then make the left side a one-way street, with a curb to keep the cars out of the rails while allowing pedestrians across for the businesses. It is either give up the parking and a little accessibility, or continue to deal with regular wrecks in this section.

Newton's first law applies here: Every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. This tendency to resist changes in a state of motion is inertia. So basically, if a train is rolling, it takes a very long time to stop.

Let me see if I got this right? A car double parked again and get bopped and a Wedding Party comes out and shows off ! And poor CSX saying nobody paying any attention to me ! Why LaGrange KY😂
The car was not double parked. It was looking for a parking spot. Driver not from around there so had no idea of this unusual situation where trains and cars share the same space. Also, if the barrier at the corner had worked correctly the driver never would have made that turn. Bad situation all round and just a tragedy waiting to happen.
I am amazed at how often I see long consists of military vehicles. Would they be shipping new vehicles to depots or transferring units for reallocation. This is something I don't think I have ever seen here in Australia, and I lived a great many years beside the railway bridges over the Brisbane River. The other thing I was wondering is about the double stacked containers. Is there a specific protocol in weight allocations so the wagons are never top heavy?
Military units in one region have their equipment transported to training bases in other regions, especially in California. It's very routine and commonplace. Well cars are designed with weight distribution in mind. The lower container is essentially a platform for the upper container, regardless of individual weights. As long as the gross tonnage of the overall car and its load aren't exceeded there is no problem.
0:52 Wow, Klemme hasn't shipped by rail in a long time now. IIRC, Uncle Pete pulled up their siding a year or two before trying to abandon the entire segment from Belmond, IA to Forest City, IA.
Same as last time, the car turned into the road with no warning there would be a train there (the alarms started right as they were doing the turn, not before) and no immediately obvious method of escape. They could have backed into one of the carparks on the westbound side of the road and waited for it to pass, but one doesn't always think of things like that in moments of stress such as being face to face with a train and no room on your side of the road to dodge it. Really they need to do one of 3 things, close the road to eastbound traffic altogether, remove the carparks on that side of the road or install a no turning arrow that comes on when the train is about halfway along the siding so turning cars have enough of warning to not turn in front of it without having to activate the main crossing too early. They have those arrows in Ashland. The Ashland ones do activate with the main crossing, but there's no reason why they couldn't program a set at La Grange to activate in advance of the crossing.
@@richardbause2453 And get a ticket for driving on the wrong side of the road? One could argue that getting a ticket is better than getting hit by a train, but having a road layout that forces you to make that choice isn't really acceptable.
2:02 That's an odd arrangement for an Amtrak train. I've never seen the baggage car in the middle of the train/ Maybe they want to isolate the first car from the rest of the passengers.
Actually, it's great railcar management. The Amtrak shops are located in northern IN, so the car is either going to be repaired or is being sent back to its normal home yard. This is somewhat rare, but, it happens all the time.
Once again the driver of highlighted car, people will risk a head on collision rather than god forbid hit the mirror on the passenger door , darwin person for sure
I’m confused. Is there not enough room on the right hand side? If not, what is a driver supposed to do if they take the right hand turn and the train is coming toward them and they can’t get far enough right?
Small town USA twith a freight line smack down mainstreet where people deal with 21st century time stamps. It's not the 1800s anymore. Nobody drives around in a horse and buggy.
I don't understand, why the car driver in La Grange hold the line? On the other side, no car coming. So would i change the side his car would be alive....
Humanity must question the logic of even allowing this to be possible. It’s not the driver’s fault for making a perfectly legal right turn, only to see there is a train coming at them and no place to go. Could have been so much worse…
the car turns while barriers are up. How does he know a train is coming? His only option is to flip in reverse and start the action movie. Could have made a U turn if he was quick. Probably get a ticket for that. 😀 Barriers need to come down as train makes the turn. Better to stop traffic a little longer. Then is definitely drivers fault if he runs the barrier.
Really ? An ambulance was needed ? For a Sideview mirror ? I know the RR was there first, but, why didn't they make the road wide enough for driving, and parking on both sides ???
Theirs really no place for the driver to go once they turn right and find out the train is coming towards them! And you really can't tell until after you make the turn. I wonder how many times this has happened?
Notice driver could have made a U-turn to other side, pulled into one of open park spaces on other side or even backed up to open space at intersection they had just come from. Also you could see that once they finished turn and saw train they did worst option, slowing to stop and doing nothing, sign of a possibly normally hesitant and unsure driver (going ahead and turning right at next intersection was probably too much to expect or even wise).
The folks recently rehomed from Ashland to La Grange are settling in really well.

That is the Amtrak office/inspection car "Beech Grove" behind the loco on a ferry move.
Once again the driver of highlighted car, people will risk a head on collision rather than god forbid hit the mirror on the passenger door , darwin person for sure
I’m confused. Is there not enough room on the right hand side? If not, what is a driver supposed to do if they take the right hand turn and the train is coming toward them and they can’t get far enough right?
back up, turn around.
If you look carefully, there are cars parked on the right hand side.
@@nycfeat but my question remains, what are you supposed to do when you take a right and a train is coming.
@@devtrash Not a great plan. LOL. I'd imagine a visitor would think backing up on Main Street is not legal.

Why was there Amtrak at Kearney?
7:37 Norfolk Southern 755
6:17 Just for anyone's info, that's a steel coil car.
Senc when does Amtrak go through Kearney
Heavy rains washed out its normal route.
Amtrak goes through Kearny?
No. They do the BNSF from Lincoln to Denver. This was a reroute.
Heavy rains washed out the normal route.
Why is there an Amtrak train in Kearney, Nebraska?
Inclement weather detour.
Flooding on the BN in south Nebraska.
Small town USA twith a freight line smack down mainstreet where people deal with 21st century time stamps. It's not the 1800s anymore. Nobody drives around in a horse and buggy.
1:06 Sand?
I don't understand, why the car driver in La Grange hold the line?
On the other side, no car coming. So would i change the side his car would be alive....
The crew at Lagrange had to be questioning humanity ay some point
Humanity must question the logic of even allowing this to be possible. It’s not the driver’s fault for making a perfectly legal right turn, only to see there is a train coming at them and no place to go. Could have been so much worse…
ok i have seen about everything
the car turns while barriers are up.
Driver of car could have gotten out of the way but decided to stop. The train could have stopped in time but didn't.
Why was amtrak running in Kearney
Weather/flooding issues on normal BNSF route.
So weird to see Amtrak at Kearney.
It's part of the California Zephyr route. The stop is in McCook, NE.
@@jackieheidorn5875Amtrak takes the BNSF from Chicago to Denver. This was a reroute on the Overland Route.
Why were they rerouting?
I think there was some flooding thst forced the rerout.

Must have been a very interesting day there at La Grange.
You didn't notice the carshow going on at the square too.

Yet another reason not to blink. If you do, you miss half of what is going on.
I'm sure every engineer dreads Lagrange. 🙄
Really ? An ambulance was needed ? For a Sideview mirror ? I know the RR was there first, but, why didn't they make the road wide enough for driving, and parking on both sides ???
Pure speculation, but perhaps the driver had a panic attack and the authorities decided to send him/her to the hospital to rule out a heart attack.
@Sarah Renz True, or a concerned citizen called just in case. Or maybe, it's RR rules. Who knows.
@@SarahRenz59 I know I would panic if I had that kind of a close encounter!

@@kennethhanks6712 I was kinda wondering why the ambulance was there!
@@kennethhanks6712 Probably a driver that doesn't know how to drive without a navigation system telling them where to go.
