  • An intriguing book, quite unlike any other The Marrow of Modern Divinity defies pigeon-holing. It was written in the 1600s by an author of whom we know little, yet it proved to be a critically important and controversial theological text.
Penned as dialogue between a minister (Evangelista), a young Christian (Neophytus), a legalist (Nomista) who believes Christianity is a set of rules to be obeyed and Antinomista who thinks it’s okay to sin because God will forgive him anyway, it makes for a wonderfully insightful book that remains tremendously relevant for our world today.
This newly laid out and eagerly awaited edition includes explanatory notes by the famous puritan Thomas Boston, an introduction by Philip Ryken and an historical introduction by William Vandoodewaard.

Thanks Thomas Boston is one of the greats of philosophy even if not recognized as much and has given me a relationship with God and my heritage and past that cannot be seen as anything but a small miracle and the grace of God Thomas Boston has blessed me with a relationship with God and fate and the future as well as forgivness as well as a better understanding of nature or natural law by simply referencing the Bible in the crook in the lot taught me so much

I recently purchased this edition of the book and can’t recommend it enough . Always amazes me how the reformers knew their bibles so well . So many insights and very thought provoking .

Dr. Ferguson has additional lectures on The Marrow, available on line, to help you navigate this great Christian classic. Faith, repentance, good works, and perseverance are the fruit of the Holy Spirit's regeneration and indwelling of Christians. We are His workmanship. We are not saved BY faith, repentance, good works, or perseverance. We are saved BY grace alone FOR God's purpose in redeeming a peculiar people who will glorify the Son.

Thank you to Christian Focus Publications for all your good work. This is a very good video.
I loved Dr. Ferguson's point about the book being a dialogue. I have heard others state that Socrates and Plato both worked out their thoughts through dialogues whereas Aristotle published his work as a treatise.
Everything is in God's sovereign plan but humanly speaking, the Reformed world could have avoided a lot of divisions, self-deception and ignorance if our spiritual leaders had followed the dialogue model.

Love this book. Just can't say enough. I'm more and more interested in Edward Fisher and his life. Ferguson mentions there was a reason he didn't put his name, only initials. Can anyone fill in why that was the case? I had assumed it was just humility and not wanting recognition. Someone in film should produce a movie on this story, from Edward fisher the unknown layman barber-surgeon to Thomas Boston and the controversy, what an incredible story.

Please share whatever you can online or through email I feel a strong spiritual connection and am greatful to experience God's Grace in this manner to be honest I've experienced God's grace before in answered prayers and experience but I've never felt so comfortable knowing God really does have a plan for me it's not the plan others have pushed on me for years but it's is god's Will and the laws of nature which are almost the same thing

Loved these books, “The Morrow of Modern Divinity” and “The Whole Christ.“
May I give a worthwhile critique? The music was distracting. No need to eliminate it, just please turn it down next time.

I do wish they would release re-written, modern language versions of some of these classics. Not all of us have time, energy or skill to read 17th century English.
