Yeah, the fact One Piece is so long to the point of scaring potential new fans is one of the reasons this live action was made lol
It's a way easier introduction to the world and characters, especially to people who aren't anime/manga fans already.
The original is way richer, they had to cut out a lot and changed many things too, but the core soul of the story is still present in the live action.
This is the take I needed today
At this point, I'm saving watching all of One Piece until I retire😂
Good to see Netflix get something right, even though it's rare
They did a great job this time!!
Alot of people hate it for not being "100% similar to the manga/anime" even though that's stupid and that Japan has already tried that and failed
They have a few good show.
This is their 3rd attempt at anime adaptation, not really rare.
Also most ppl like it, not too many care it's 100% adaptation, just IGN. Harry Potter wasn't 100% accurate to the books either😅

This is what happens when something is adapted with love and care by people who love the source material.
YES
I think 1 of the main reasons why this One Piece live action works and is so good is because the creator of the original One Piece manga Eiichiro Oda is heavily involved in its production, he was responsible for casting all the actors & every detail of the show from the script and writing to the costumes & makeup, everything had to go through him first, and if the writers wanted to change anything from the manga they needed Oda's permission first. For the creator of the source material to be so heavily involved in the production really helps in making an adaptation that is true to the source material, you can just tell that this show was made with alot of love and care from the casts and crew. Sadly I cannot say the same for most other live action adaptations of mangas & animes in the past.

I think that originally, Netflix wanted to add some sort of "romantic tension" between Zoro and Nami. Glad to see that never happened.

You'd think a live-action adaptation of an anime wouldn't work. But somehow it does.
It really does, because they put a lot of care into it!!
I'm so glad you are reacting to this!!!! I binged it so fast. It is a decent live action which we anime nerds can't say very often. It's so hard to recommend One Piece as it is a great story, but super long and not even finished. I still think you should try it as Oda sensei hits ALL OF THE FEELS.

I feel like this is manga accurate, because when I watched it, I immediately remembered important parts of the manga and anime that I had read and watched when I was a kid. I've watched all 8 episodes. Only if you say it's better than the manga, no it's not. If you say it's worse, no, it's not. You can't compare them because they have their own interests. So far, this is number 2 the best. Number 1 is still Alice in Borderland Live action netflix series. and number 3, Rurouni kenshin movie 1-5.
Alice in Borderland is ELITE I have all the manga available in English for it so far!!
Please do more of One Piece. I put the first episode on just to kill an hour and then binged the whole thing in a day. I loved it so much.

This show is one of my favorite things I’ve seen this year, alongside Renfield and Across the Spider-verse. A western adaption of an anime is actually wonderful. Who’d have thought?

This show is amazing, I had never seen it before(the manga) but heard about it, and fell in love with the live action, love to see you continue the series, it's incredible.
I never understood "I dont have time" argument for not reading or watching One Piece... it is not like you need to do it in a month, there is no time limit.
Just start and chill, there is no hurry and you will catch up sooner than you think

They’ve done well adapting it. Sure, stuff got left out… it wasn’t super consequential… and some flash backs don’t happen that fast in the anime. And some characters are introduced a lot earlier, but it doesn’t ruin the story… just foreshadowing the future

Omg yesss 🤩 I'm a huge One Piece fan and i absolutely loved the first season of the live adaption. The characters are portrayed pretty damn well. Of course there are a lot inaccuacies but what adaption doesn't have them so...eh? I love it anyway ❤

For the fact that I only saw 1-2 seasons of this show years ago, this is still one of the best live action adaptions (after Rurouni Kenshin movies). 😊

Just like how Dragon Ball Z has power levels, the wanted poster bounty amounts give you a clue on how strong a pirate is.
The larger the bounty the more deadly and dangerous you are considered. I won't spoil anything of course, but it is worth remembering.

This was the only time I heard someone say the CGI was good on that stomach stretch dodging Alvida. Everyone else (about 5 people) said it was kinda goofy looking but specifically at that part only.

I just got into One Piece a few months ago cuz I caught up on Detective Conan (another series with over 1000 episodes) and I needed something to fill the void.
It's alright. Lots of emotional moments (Oda hands out tragic backstories like Halloween candy)... my only real problem with it is the pacing. It drags a lot at times. But when it's good, it's really good. The live action is obviously much quicker paced and the over the top slapstick comedy is replaced with sarcasm and deadpan humor but it still works pretty well, imo.

I watched Bleach, some of Naruto, D Gray man, but not one piece. The funny thing is that I know the general plot and know the characters, but I do not have the will to watch the anime. I should definitely read the manga though I feel like I would like it. I usually read the manga first and then get into the anime if animation is decent.
