I have two Zojirushi bread machine love them. You don’t need to warm ingredients. It does it all. I make bead weekly. I gifted my granddaughter one also. She loves it.
I’m learning to use it. I stopped heating thing up and it’s doing much better. I still don’t love to bake in it but the dough cycle has been doing wonderful for me
I had an original Zojurishi bread machine . Gave it to my daughter. Bought the one you now purchased , had it for five years and one day it just died. I now have a cusinart convection bread machine and love it. You can take the paddle out while after kneading the bread. Game changer.
I just purchased the Patioer 15-in-1 bread machine from Amazon. I chose it not only for price but because it had two paddles and great reviews. 4.3 out of 5 stars. Does larger batches. $129.99 full price. Decided to start with an inexpensive model to see if I would use. Want to use mostly for the dough cycle. It arrived today and I am very impressed so far. EXCELLENT instruction manual! Full of recipes. Gives measurements for 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 & 3 pounds loaves. Thank you for all your videos!
Good to see a comparison. Ive never heard of your new bread machine. I bought a cheap bread machine from an electrical and it broke the first time I used it. I took it back to the shop and they gave me a new one, this happened 4 times and they were rude to me so I took my husband in with me. They took the old one off me gave me dirty looks and brought out a more expensive one and I’m still using that one now. It was stuck in a cupboard for a couple of years but now I just use it for dough and cook the bread etc., myself in the oven. It’s much better than in the machine. Good luck using your new one.
I love my breadman for the price. I have had three because the paddle thing has issues when you do use it three to four times a week. I got an old zojirushi from buy nothing and I love it. Vital wheat gluten is what you are talking about to make it bread flour. Maybe you can add more vital wheat gluten to the Sams flour. My fancy one preheats so I press go before I start adding ingredients 😂 I keep both on my counter to use together. I love the zojirushi for baking bread and not having to scoot the dough down.
I’m still in the hospital. Hopefully I’ll get discharged later today. I’m glad you got your bread machine. If you use it like you do, it’s worth spending the money. Keep your personal info. Once you put it out there you can’t stop people from sharing it. I love your channel, but you have to keep boundaries. It keeps you safe, & it’s just better. You just had someone using your info to make another channel on another platform if I’m remembering it correctly. Keep doing your thing. Have a great day ❤🙏🏻❤️
OMG you’ll LOVE it I found 2 at yard sales 1 for 5.00 the other for 3.00 They are older ones but GIRL you will be in LOVE. the Zo will heat up your wets, you’ll get used to how it works, once you do you will wonder why you have gotten it sooner Read your book, I had to get from off line bc it didn’t come with the book
I have one arm so the dough cycle on bread machine is perfect and I use it for everything bread ,rolls, pizza crust bread sticks actually everything about we love it. We have had the same machine since the 90’s I actually just bought one at thrift store before it’s starting to squeak like something is going out but not a worry I have my $4 back up.
Thanks for video. I too have an old bread machine which I used just for dough. I purchased the Zojirushi to actually bake loaves in the machine. I want sliced bread and multigrain for sandwiches or too toast. My plan is to be as self sufficient as possible and $3-4.00 for a loaf of bread no longer works for me 😊.
My grandmother would only use White Lily flour and Martha White corn meal. Nothing else would do for her. She could give you a basic shopping list and you would always know what to buy. She liked what she liked. ❤❤❤
Ali my husband works at a Sod farm. I used to say "cut grass" until he explained to me that on the Farm mowing grass makes it shorter and prettier. Cutting grass meant that the guys were getting the sod ready to sell. Who knew there really was a difference ❤😂❤ I still say cut grass 😂❤️😂
This was so much fun - thank you! I have a Breadman, thrifted for $4.50. I use it all the time - for dough and to bake. I also have to convince the ingredients down at the start of mixing, but love the machine overall. Now I will stop looking for a thrifted Zojirushi!
I found a Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme at thrift shop for $4.99. I was in a rich neighborhood, those are the best thrift stores😊. I was so excited I’ve made some bread but the only flour I had was all purpose. My bread was heavy and I like light and fluffy. So I will get the bread flour like you recommended. Thanks for sharing.
I use my zojirushi to make our bread. I use the quick bread setting that’s 45 minutes, then I take it out, divide the dough to get two loaves of bread. I grind wheat to make the flour and use this recipe…. 1-1/2 cups hot water 1/3 c olive oil 1/3 c honey 2-tsp salt 1- tsp gluten (opt) 1 egg 3 cup flour(4-1/2 c wheat if grinding your own flour) 2- tbsp yeast . You can also use the homemade setting for 20 minutes… this just mixes and kneads the dough. This can be for pizza crust and cinnamon rolls. Anyway enjoy your new machine.
I got my Zo from a thrift store for $20…the rest period is when the machine is bringing your ingredients to the correct temperature, for example you can add your cold ingredients right from the fridge, the rest period will bring the ingredients to temp. Also you can use the homemade settings to setup your own settings for example you may not need to have the rest period and it can be removed…one more thing, my Zo you can life the top and the machines still mixes which I like…i didn’t like the bread that was actually baked in the machine, so I only use mines to mix my doughs, enjoy yours
I also have the Breadman Plus . This is my second one . Love it , but like you now can only make dough. I have made Jam in this machine also. The resting time on your new machine would drive me crazy. I went through that with another machine.
I like the bread made in the oven better than in the bread machine. Only use the bread machine , in the winter, as a dough machine, too. Love the hogies breads . We call them hero bread here.😂
Jess from roots and refuge just did a similar video. She bought Neretva from Amazon to compare to the Z brand because the Neretva is decently affordable. It runs about $120. Just for another idea of those of us who can’t find thrift store scores. I can’t believe I sold my old one 20 years ago in a garage sale. I just didn’t have capacity as a new mom and wife and working to be making bread.
Appreciated seeing the comparison. I have an older bread machine that I finally decided to try using, and wow, have I been missing out. Homemade bread is so good. Mine does bake the bread so I don't think I'll get a new one. But with as much as you make bread, and since your old one doesn't properly bake the bread, I think you did good with the price on your new machine. Not sure if it made a difference in the dough texture, and not sure if you noticed during editing, but you did add an extra tsp. of salt to the new machine when adding the ingredients. Overall, though, both batches looked really good. Makes me want to go make some more bread now. 😉
I have 2 zojirushi bread machines ... I went thru 12 cheap bread machines I do not bake in them I use it for dough for anything bread dough only. I have now had my first zojirushi for 15 years used almost daily and I love love love it. I never got leaking oil or in mixed anything ...hope you love it too!! Oh second one is in case I need 2 or if it ever breaks I have a spare haha
I’ve had a zojirushi for about 7 years. You really need to read the manual end to end, both to understand the programmed cycles and how to program your own. It preheats…that why the wait. Understand what the beeps mean in the cycle if you want to make bread with add ins like raisins or olives etc. set your preferred crust..then walk away. Enjoy!
Thanks for your comparison on the machines! On your flour - please take a look at the nutrition information on your flour bag. Sam's Club bread flour has the same protein content as their all purpose flour. Bread flour needs a much higher protein content - 12% or higher for protein. To figure that out, you take the number of grams of protein from the nutrition label and divide it by the total number of grams. Their supposable "bread flour" has VERY low protein percentage. I buy it, but I still add gluten to the flour to improve the percentage. I have been baking sourdough bread for ten years and just use AP flour and add gluten. For every 100 grams of Sam's club flour in a recipe, I use 92 grams of flour + 8 grams of gluten = 100 grams of flour. It makes a HUGE difference in bread. King Arthur's bread flour has a high protein/gluten content - that's why it works so well!
I.live way above "high altitude" I buy vital gluten because if I I don't I have really heavy bread, and I love to make whole wheat and rye bread. My family really does not like store bread anymore they call it air bread.
I love making bread and bake goods. I have some health issues so I can’t make it from scratch like I use to. We had three bread machines. Wolfgang puck and Cooks Essentials. The Wolfgang one made the bread tough, no matter what flour we used. The cooks one worked great until it died. We used it almost every day for years. My son said mom, buy a higher price one. So we did. He loves it, so do I. We only use King Arthur flours now, Unbleached versions. The bread is so good.
I would love to have a Zo-one. I have an Old Oster bread machine and I use for dough cycle and then bake in oven. I would love to see more of your recipes you love for your bread machines. I’ve watched a channel on RUclips, she has 3 Zo…. Machines and explain that machine in detail … I believe her channel is Bread Machine and Bread Making with Ellen…I enjoy her channel…. TONS of information on Zo…Bread Machines She said the reason Zo machines do REST, is it warms your ingredients
First bread machine was a gift and was a sunbeam. Wore out the heat gasket for the beater paddle shaft and would leak ingredients out. So second sunbeam wasn’t as good a machine, even though they were the same level. And that one stopped working. (The pans were not interchangeable, I did try). So my last bread machine is my favorite. We ended up being celiac and had to go gluten free. Found a programmable Breadman Plus that has a gluten free setting plus could program the dough setting. Makes beautiful dough, but don’t like the cooked bread in it. The bread cooks better in a oven
I always cook in the oven. The crust gets weird like you are saying. I love my breadman. It’s been great to me for years! Still getting to know the new one. I told my hubby that the new machine and I aren’t on a first name basis yet. 😂
I’m sad that I had to get rid of my bread machine….hubs said I didn’t use it enough to keep it…..that was then…..this is now….SIGH….making bread isn’t easy for me but it makes me so mad that they put extra crap in it we don’t need and it’s SO expensive! I’m just going to bite the bullet and try making it myself…..I love fresh baked bread! I love the way it makes the house smell…..I’m going to use your recipe and make some on my own…..after 53 years, he knows I’m gonna do ME…bahahahahahaha! I hope your new machine works out as well as I think it will! ❤❤❤
I have a 23-25 year old Zo and I love it. It has double paddles. Take time to review the manual and recipes; the Zo is different from other machines and has multiple option/programs. Does your model automatically add mix ins? I have to do it manually. Yes, these machines are expensive. I agonized years ago over spending $259. I think it was a good investment. I would have loved to have found one at a yard sale or thrift store! 😊
I've heard someone on YT say the Zojirushi rest cycle warms up the ingredients to the right temperature before it starts. I guess you can throw everything in cold, but you have to allow the extra time. There should be an override for that.
I just ordered my Zojirushi virtuoso plus machine tonight! I’m wondering how it will compare to my ancient machines too! I think I will give away my oldest one because I don’t need three.😳
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa I’m taking the oldest one to my craft room and it will keep my digital pressure canner company. That room is turning into a prepper pantry/craft room.
Oh yes, I forgot. Because you can make multiple loaf sizes in the Zo, I definitely recommend the recipe book “The Artisan Bread Machine: 250 Recipes for Breads, Rolls, Flatbreads and Pizzas”. Each recipe has the breakdown for 1, 1-1/2, and 2 pound loaves. And the recipes are great!
Silently whispering, Splurge.......Splurge........Splurge!!! Are you convinced yet??? It IS almost Christmas ya know!!! Early Christmas gift for the home??? That's what my husband and I do. We wait until Christmas (or just before) to get things for the home, and then we say, THANK YOU SANTA!!! 😉😉😉 😊
Only mentioning because you said you didn't read the directions, make sure both blades in the Zojirushi are set the same way before you start (if one blade is set to an 11 o'clock position, make sure the other is set to an 11 o'clock position.
Have u tried hard white wheat berries. It’s wheat bread but light. I like it because it’s not the heavy whole wheat bread but like a lighter wheat bead that is white. I usually just order the berries from azure since I can’t get the brand I used to get
I have but not much to be honest. I have the berries and grinder but it’s overwheming and I need to just jump in and go. I figured I’d start with half hard white and half regular bread flour so I don’t feel defeated.
So, your bread recipe makes two regular-sized loaves? I have a bread pan (that I’ve never used) that makes a “sandwich-sized” loaf. Would your recipe make one of that size? Love your videos, by the way! I watch you daily!😊
I have the both the thrift store a the and zojirushi . The zojirushi is better you have 3 crust setting . Also instead of reading the manual RUclips has videos on how to operate it.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa I had the same problem with sinking in the middle, so I started baking in the oven. I found a Bread Becker video that said to adjust the rise up or down 5 minutes to fix it, but haven’t tried it yet. Has something to do with the temp or humidity or something. 😂 (Bread Becker is awesome. They’re a store selling all things bread, etc. in Woodstock, Ga. Sue explains all the chemistry and does in person classes, etc.). Love, love, love your channel btw. I’m sure we’d be besties if we ever met! 😆
Thank you for sharing, I’m going to try your recipe today, post Hurricane Milton, just got power back last night (others in the area still without power). Grocery store shelf’s are still bare. How did the inside crumb and crust and texture (mouth feel) compare when you cut into them?
You were having trouble with the best feature of this machine. It heats the ingredients so you don't have to figure out how warm the water is. That's why it takes so long for you to hear any movement. You just put everything in and it takes a little time to heat things up. This is the best bread machine I have ever owned and it make beautiful bread both appearance and flavor. One of the best channel to watch for this machine is "Bread Machine and Baking Videos with Helen Hoffman." check her out she is very thorough. BTW, take the beaters out immediately if not they will stick and be very difficult to remove.
Thank you. Someone else just told me about her as well. The other lady is her neighbor. I’ll go check it out. I’ll have to make a loaf and no preheat anything to see how it goes. Thanks!
Right?!?! It’s a little complicated. I am so use to the old one the new one and I are not friends yet. We’re working it out and having a daily coffee meeting until she likes me 😂
What I love about the Zo, it pre-heats the liquids in the bottom of the pan, takes about 20 min. Then the mixing kicks in. It is about 1 hr 50 min. I should have given you that heads up last week when I saw it on your countertop. No, it doesn’t stop when you open the lid, otherwise you could not add in nuts or raisins. You’ll get the hang of it, just a little different.
I dont have a bread machine. I was wondering if you could do a video sometime on yeast rolls and cinnamon rolls not with a bread machine for those of us who dont have 1. I do have a large 13 cup food processor. Ive only tried the yeast rolls and cinnamon rolls 1 time. It took 4hours and they were a flop so i would love to see a video to walk me thru. Also, Do you have a homemade bisquick recipe? I have to buy it every year atound the holidays to make tons of sausage balls. You are so smart and thrifty i know you can help. Thank you so much for your awrsomecreative easy videos!! ♥
I haven’t used the book since I didn’t have it either. I use the dough function the most. Let me know what you are trying to do and I’ll see if I can help.
I have a bread machine and I just can't make good sour dough bread for some reason the bread is hard even if I take the dough out and cook in my over instead of the bread machine .. Please help I want to make bread so bad . What to do maybe I just can't make sour dough...
I used to make all of my own bread and bread items, that was many many years ago. I am no longer able to do the mixing and kneading required so I purchased a KitchenAid mixer to do that for me and regret that immensely because having a very small kitchen with extreme limited kitchen counter I am unable to keep the kitchen aid in the kitchen and unable to Move It from one location to another. I have been looking for the last 6 months for a bread maker similar to yours for the simple purpose of mixing and meeting and then bake it off myself. I really appreciate your bread making videos and I'm anxious to get a bread machine myself to be able to have fresh bread again. Thank you so much for all you do
@@LittleHillHomesteadGathank you. I have been looking for a bit at the thrift stores near me. I will keep looking and put it on my Christmas list lol. I am in central New Hampshire.
Will your bread recipe work in a machine that is for 1 or 1 1/2 pound machine? I just got a machine at the local thrift store for 10 bucks (cheapest one) got it home and discovered it is only for 1 to 1 1/2 lbs and there is no exchange or refund. Help! I have an Oster machine
It will! You can do a half recipe and make one standard size loaf in it. Perfect if you have a smaller family. You will love it. I’m here if you get stuck! Email me if you do.
I bought the same machine, it was very expensive and I don’t use it, I didn’t like the texture or taste of the bread. I use my old one from the 90’s instead.
It’s strange that the texture is so different. It’s like learning again. I did finally get a loaf in the new one but I still prefer to bake in the oven.
Use your Sam’s club flour for cookies and such for Christmas baking. Waffle and pancake mixes. Gravy, things like that.
I believe the flour you’re thinking of is White Lily
Bread paddles should face the same way for a nice loaf. Course, bread type, crust color, then start. Perfect bread or dough.

You got this!
If you have a BJs club near you (it is similar to Costco or Sam’s), they carry 10 lb bags of several King Arthur Flours for great prices.
i am very thankfull for a bread machine , as i can not touch the dough , i kill the yeast when i do
Awesome video
I've heard someone on YT say the Zojirushi rest cycle warms up the ingredients to the right temperature before it starts. I guess you can throw everything in cold, but you have to allow the extra time. There should be an override for that.
There has to be!
I just ordered my Zojirushi virtuoso plus machine tonight! I’m wondering how it will compare to my ancient machines too! I think I will give away my oldest one because I don’t need three.😳
You might need three 😂🤣❤️
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa I’m taking the oldest one to my craft room and it will keep my digital pressure canner company. That room is turning into a prepper pantry/craft room.
Just FYI i think you did extra salt the Z brand bread ...
Oh goodness. I’ll have to go back and watch. My brain!
@LittleHillHomesteadGa I just went back to make sure that I was not having a loonie moment, and yes, you gave it one more serving of salt
Did you ever do a video showing how it cooked in the machine. I looked but didn't see one
I haven't yet. I have a few times and so far I don't love to bake in it.
Thanks for the book idea
lol your new machine has a preheat before it starts. I want that machine to but still trying to convince myself to splurge.
Good point. I swear the manual is like a college text book. I gave up trying to understand it.
I would guess the 1:50 hours includes baking time.
Nope. It has a delay start to heat up the ingredients. I’m going to set up a custom setting to skip that step I’m thinking. Thanks for chiming in ❤️
Have u tried hard white wheat berries.
Baking in the older bread machine the crust is softer the next day
I throw them in a ziplock to get the crust to soften but we like it like that
al!!
So, your bread recipe makes two regular-sized loaves? I have a bread pan (that I’ve never used) that makes a “sandwich-sized” loaf. Would your recipe make one of that size? Love your videos, by the way! I watch you daily!😊
It sure would! It fills a Pullman large or two smaller loaf pans.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa Thank you!!
White Lily
I have the both the thrift store a the and zojirushi . The zojirushi is better you have 3 crust setting . Also instead of reading the manual RUclips has videos on how to operate it.
Have you compared loaves by letting the machines bake them? That's what I'm curious about.
I have. The zo has a big learning curve and my loaves sank in the middle. I’m still trying. It did well with a date bread we made.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa Thank You!
Thank you for sharing, I’m going to try your recipe today, post Hurricane Milton, just got power back last night (others in the area still without power). Grocery store shelf’s are still bare. How did the inside crumb and crust and texture (mouth feel) compare when you cut into them?
They were super close when we ate them. The zo was a little more airy so a few more holes. Overall it did well.
Thanks!
I got a Zohrushi for $18 at a thrift store I work at. Had to print out the instructions but I need someone decipher it for me😂
Could you wheat gluten in the other bread flour to make it better
I can!
You did add salt to your new bread machine.
I’ve been trying to fit making the bread machine recipes without the machine but haven’t done them yet. Same with the biscuits. I’ll have it soon.
Could it be White Lily?
Yes!
My aunt gave me the bread maker like you white one but don't the book so I don't know how to use it
I haven’t used the book since I didn’t have it either. I use the dough function the most. Let me know what you are trying to do and I’ll see if I can help.
How do you store your bread in what type of container or sack?
I tried a bunch and the only thing that works for me are two ziplocks. I put one over each end since it won’t fit in one.
❤️😋❤️
Rest period is that the machine is warming up your ingredients so you can put in cold items. You can skip this step.
How?!?! I think this is messing with my rise.
I have a bread machine and I just can't make good sour dough bread for some reason the bread is hard even if I take the dough out and cook in my over instead of the bread machine .. Please help I want to make bread so bad . What to do maybe I just can't make sour dough...
I’ve never been able to get sourdough to work well either. I usually will do a standard loaf and add some discard for the flavor.
Thank you so much for all you do
Thrift stores! Just keep checking. Where are you located? Maybe someone on here has an extra or knows of a location for you.
