He was the greatest and the most talented, in fact he was gifted .I feel sorry that we wont be seeing him surf ever again...watching him surf makes you realise that he was dancing with the waves...everyone has some type of demons, he should have sought help from a therapist/medical prof. if he had done that I would still be watching him surf with great pleasure...great shame!

@91Surfergirl I wish everyone thought like you, love to Andy despite it all, he still carries on a style very few modern surfers these days could ever compare to.

Kinda fitting the editors of both magazines were named Slater and Irons...

I remember seeing him surf in a movie for the first time. I was thinking, man, that guy is a tube monster.

The World Surfing Champion has made his final statement with his death scene. Dropping out of competition dope sick, alone, on drugs, dying in an airport hotel room just trying to get back home. Sorry for your lost.

@mattandpatti222 You have no idea what demons this man struggled with. It now looks like he had alot, and they got the best of him. The man won 3 world titles; beating surfings greatest athlete of all time, but lost his battle to drugs. I am deeply saddened that he lost his life due to drugs but would never label the man a loser. I label him human.
