    The thing that impresses me most about this performance is the lightness in her jumps; they are feather-light, especially the two triples, and the flow out of them is truly spectacular.

    Sasha was brilliant in this short program. This and her 'Malaguena' were my favorites.
    Today's skaters don't come close to Sasha's artistry and power - though they can whip out pre-rotated quad jumps.

    I have never seen anyone so talented as Sasha. Her skating is absolutely exquisite. I just wish she would have been more consistent in her jumps.

      She's not strong enough that's why. She's more delicately built then most. Most skaters with strong jumps are mesomorphs. She doesn't have the typical thick legs of skaters needed to execute triple jumps. I'm built like this and I was a skater. My coach used to tell me my legs weren't strong enough. She's built more like a dancer or model then a skater.

    I always forget how Sasha didn’t always have that weird hitch on her triple flip, where she would switch to an outside edge at the last minute. She’s always flutzed the lutz, switching to the inside edge, but here she does the flip properly. She picked up a bad habit at some point with both of those jumps. Otherwise, what a program. I love the music. Very haunting and beautiful

    • @dumdeedumlalala

      Yep, those bad techniques were picked up as soon as she switched to Tarasova. Here is how her flip looked like just a few months after this competition: ruclips.net/video/wxW1aGxOWL0/видео.html (vs here at 1:26)

      Judges were still under this whole "wait your turn" policy. They wanted to put Kwan into the Olympics as the US champion, even if she fell once or twice, which she didn't of course.

  • @sherryanng19
    @sherryanng19 8 лет назад +3

    She was marked according to the rules, flutzing, she doesn't complete the circle in her required footwork and she hunches over in her sit spin. Her spiral positions have a complete split, but they're supposed to carry speed thru the sequence and be in the shape of a circle or serpentine. If you don't know these things, you would think she would be in first, otherwise... No!

    • @juanalmanza3536
      @juanalmanza3536 7 лет назад +7

      I am not a specialist, but compared to Kwan's performance this same night, Kwan's Axel looked double footed; she just held the first spiral for a long time, but she didn't held the other two positions for long; Kwan's combination spins were good, but weren't perfect either. However, Kwan's Lutz was really good. Still, I think Sasha was a bit underscored.

    • @fong03
      @fong03 5 лет назад +9

      I would agree with you if the judges consistently marked those mistakes. The truth is they only did when it suited them. Even now the skaters don't get called for flutzes or pre-rotations when they should.
      And hunching over in her sit spin? Compared to the other ladies, Sasha was one of the better spinners. Michelle never had a good position in the layback and I don't think she was ever penalized for it.
