"Green, do I have the car in the right spot so the clamps can grab the bars?" "Uh, Kato you need to move it over to the left about 4 thousandths of an inch." "Okay Boss"
Black Beauty is the coolest car Chrysler ever built, not before or afterwards. What a beautiful ride. I like the saxophones right after Van says, Lets Roll, Kato, as the car goes through the Building and when it gets outside. When they rotate the cars, the Saxophones play and I like that part as well. Very Cool Video! .
Not a "Chrysler" . an I M P E R I A L. The IMPERIAL was launched and registered as a SEPARATE MAKE beginning in 1955...some 11 years BEFORE this T.V. series began. Thus , this 1966 model is an IMPERIAL....not a "Chrysler Imperial" . It was not even MARKETED OR VIN'ed as a Chrysler. IMPERIALS had their OWN DISTINCT VIN numbers from all Chrysler models . All Chrysler models (300, New Yorker, Newport, etc) used the "C" make code. All IMPERIAL models ( Custom, Crown, Le Baron, Ghia Limousine) used the separate "Y" make code designating them as IMPERIALS. Thus, IMPERIALS were NOT Chryslers....they were IMPERIALS....Plain and simple.
@Robo1415 I remember it, too and my mother was so impressed by the show that when we bought a green AMC Rambler in 1968 she named it "The Green Hornet"!
This was such a cool show, and a great counterpart to the fun, campy nature of Batman. It's a shame it didn't last longer and isn't available on Blu Ray.
The show was good but was on the same time that Batman was big. The Green Hornet was actually a very popular radio show through the 30's & 40's and was a also in a couple of Serial movie productions.
There was also a tow part episode of Batman, where i n the 1st part, the Dynamic Duo, thought The Green Horent and Kato were bad guys. In the second part, they team up to defeat the "real Bad guys."
Dude lives in that nice metro/suburban setting, drives Black Beauty out of his garage (no one ever notices) emerges from trapdoor on the seedy side of town... What TF... !?! I ate this stuff up as a kid tho
The Black Beauty was an 1966 IMPERIAL LeBARON....an IMPERIAL of the same year will be used in the upcoming 2010 GREEN HORNET MOVIE ...but this time it will have twin MACHINE GUNS on the FRONT FENDERS !!!
What the Green Hornet called a “Scanner” back in 1966..is today known as a “DRONE.” And WHO KNOWS? Maybe the Green Hornet and Kato’s “Scanner” may have indeed been the original INSPIRATION for Today’s DRONES in the FIRST PLACE !!
@d4seasons You are correct, also in Ace in the Hole, and the Green Hornet appeared on Batman on TV as Bruce is watching. See other video titled Green Hornet on Batman, Batman on The Green Hornet
It would be really awesome if Micheal Gondry & crew choose to show a 2-3 minute prologue during another movie, like they did with the dark knight & I am legend....
...sorry I must have accidently deleted a reply that said that the GH was on Batman but never on the GH show. Well actually in one GH episode, thugs were changing a TV/Closed Circut screen and what was on the TV, Batman and Robin ( Adam West and Burt Ward) in a Bat-climb up the side of a building!
As kids, we thought that the Hornet and Batman was, at least, competitive. We all knew that Kato would kick Robin's behind, and still have time to order out for pizza.
Yes,indeed, the coolest show ever made. Unfortunately, they are making a movie with Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet, what a total misinterpretation. He would have been better off as Mike ,the reporter who works for Britt Reid, the newspaper publisher.
I like the Black Beauty, but never thought much about the name. Black Beauty? It derserved a tuffer name than that - not something Kato's mom would call it. Too me it wasn't built for speed. Instead, it was a battle tank. It would probably take out the batmobile if they ever fought. That sucker had missle launchers, machine guns, bombs, protective coating from lasers, UAV and all the electronic goodies Batman never had. Don't get me wrong, I like Batman too.
The Black Beauty could take on the TUMBLER from the Dark Knight movies and win. yeah yeah I know the Tumbler was almost completely indestructible but it has a weakness: to take it out the Black Beauty could just fire a missile into the space between one of the rear wheels and the body and blow it up from the inside kinda like the death star. Even if Batman activated the Batpod, the Black Beauty would beat that to
Jo-Han Models provided the 1/25th scale replica of the 1966 Chrysler 300 as it rotated and revealed the Black Beauty, which was a heavily customized 1966 Imperial (also a replica for this scene). Great posting video clip, thanks!
by the way, in 1955 , the IMPERIAL was SPUN OFF of the Chrysler line ...and became a SEPARATE MAKE ... still made by the Chrysler Corporation , but no longer a Chrysler....so the term "Chrysler Imperial" is errorenous for all Imperials made from 1955-1983. For more details, please go to Wikipedia and look up " IMPERIAL (automobile). also , go to GOOGLE , and enter "IMPERIAL SEPARATE MAKE 1955" .
They have some cool shows on TV now, but none of them had this cool car switch. Can you imagine if they had "Human Target" with a switch like this? Or if Jack Bower did this on 24? Nope. No cool gadgets on TV anymore. Not even Doll House.
@gaIIery well the ratings were low & that's important. if only it continued lots of more action & features of THE BLACK BEAUTY were to be shown. it was fun while it lasted. Van Williams is the only living soul .
@rentatrip1 Maybe Kato was awesome enough to modify it for inverted storage. Given all the other modifications he made to the Black Beauty, would that really be beyond his abilities?
That always was a concern of mine; you hang a car upside down, all the fluids like the crankcase oil, are going to flow down into the cylinders, so when you fired it up, you'd have smoke billowing from the exhaust, provided the plugs weren't fouled, preventing it from starting at all!
Not sure about Jo-Han providing the '66 Chrysler 300 model for the show? The BB and Chrysler 300 models were 1/6th scale. Jo-Han did make a 1/25th scale 300 model (I have one) Check out my other video on the garage scene!
It's a good thing that the producers chose to go with an *IMPERIAL* to be *The Black Beauty*...instead of Cadillac or Lincoln . IMPERIAL could out-accelerate and out-handle *both* of them !!!
@eimb1999 - oh thank GOD - I have not slept one night since watching this because i know everything is real even wrestling- besides why didn't the original developers of this concept give this consideration ? my original question, of course its a model - but there are alternative methods of "hidding" a duplicate sleeper car , LIKE ...evevator lift into a basement or up to a upper level .... thanks for your comment -I can finaly get some rest
@elvis3700 Oh yes..I've seen the Batman movie serials. They drove a regular car! BTW on the TV show out of all the villians thta appeared only 5 came from the comic book storylines..The Joker...Penguin...Riddler...Catwoman....can you name the 5th?
@45corleone - Suggest when turning a 1966 auto upsidee down all the fuel & all the oil will drain "UP" into the CARB & drip out of the vehic;e - why do you think they call it the OIL PAN ? only aircraft are built to sustain inverted operations - Hay Kato why does the inside of the Black Beauty smell like gasoline ?
Kato: the first sidekick to go down in history that everyone wanted to be
Kato's the first sidekick who was badder than the main guy.
Gotta love this mostly forgotten about tv show. When television was great
Best thing about this classic 20-some episodes: The series never got bad!
I worked with Van Williams when he was a Sheriff's Reserve working out of Malibu Sheriff Station. Great guy to be around.
That's great

black beauty. pure awesomeness
100% correct. I am 48 years old and am still a die-hard fan. I had the opportunity to see this car in person. It is a 1966 Imperial Crown.

I like the idea of the Black Beauty pulling out of a grimy dark alley

Depending on the version, the Tumbler is pretty great
Not really, but if you think so, nothing is cooler than the Batmobile.

it was 26. just a darn shame it couldn't have lasted longer like Batman. it was a great, fun series. my favorite car is the Black Beauty.****
Dean Jeffries chose a 1966 Chrysler Crown Imperial for the task. Very possibly Chrysler's first prominent TV/Movie car.

Kato ready to kick @$$: Check. 😎
The best Kato of all.

with class & style. i wished i purchased that power machine.
It was so cool the way Kato removed Brit Reid s car to replace it with the Black Beauty.

Black Beauty had a "drone" (scanner) way back in 1966..........................................way cool
@mottledbrain Me too! These were our "Standard Definition" days. The Green Hornet in color. Now the Green Hornet in high definition!
Odd how some comic-book heroes take their identities from creatures that most people detest: bats, spiders, ants, hornets.
Just saw the movie an hour ago. It was PRETTY COOL!
