Actually, when I was checking the channel today, the last time a "tutorial" went up by Rodney (before today's) was on December 3, 2020. I think Rodney wanted to take a break from tutorials for the holidays, but he made sure that some videos still went up on the channel in December 2020. At least we got to see some videos we didn't expect, like the board game table review, and the livestream where he tried to learn a game if Watch It Played and/or the internet didn't exist. It would be nice to see some non-tutorial related videos again by Rodney in the future, but it's also nice that we're able to watch the tutorial videos again for a while (and when I checked the schedule, it looks like we can expect a few this month.)
Awesome! I’m glad we’re branching out but I’m also glad we’re not getting rid of the tutorials cuz if makes t a little easier for me to judge if I like a game or not. Can’t wait to see wat the new yr brings to the channel
@@shadowwolf2192 Yeah. Rodney's videos are always to decide if a game is right for you or not. You get to see what the game looks like set up, and be directed about what the different features are used for in each game. Plus, he makes the basic rules clear to understand with a lot of visual examples, and a lot of people like to wait for him to put up a video before deciding whether or not to buy a game. (In other instances, it can also cause them to dust it off their selves and play it, or buy it if it's the first time they heard about the game.) For me, even thought I couldn't afford every game that got a tutorial on this channel in the last 10 years, it's nice to hear games explained clearly on his channel, hence why I like this types of video. That's most likely why this channel survived the 10+ years it's been on.
This looks fun! Reminds me a lot of the tile placement from Castles of Burgundy and the limited placement options of Tiny Towns. Great video as always, Rodney.
I honestly have to disagree. Having played with both I would always pick the first edition. It's so strange that after 3 editions they still can't make the looks of this game worthy of a Feld. Misalignments and punchmarks on tiles all over the place while it was perfect and clean in my edition, I find the art on tiles and frames worse alltogether. Okay the box is way nicer, but that's really it for me.
I picked up this game, not knowing anything about it. So i watched your video on the how to play. All i have to say is you put out great videos. And thanks to you i was able to start playing the game right away without any issues. Great job. Thanks a lot.
This looks better than the first two editions, colors are more vibrant and the backs of the tiles aren’t confusing. Really good game, might pick this up now that it has actually fixed some issues.
The publisher making the back of the tiles white and black is the most hilariously passive-aggressive thing ever! "Well NOW can you tell the tiles apart? Different enough for you?" :)
Hey this is great!! Just got the game for Christmas. My wife understands your teaching waaaaay better than mine, so I know what we will be playing next . Thanks!
So glad you enjoyed and welcome to the channel! And thanks for the interest in War of the Ring! I talk a bit about that here: ruclips.net/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/видео.html&t=342
Nick has it right below, I tend to avoid giving personalized recommendations. What I like, someone else might not - but hopefully you see a few games on here that might be what you are looking for! Now that said, sometimes on my It's Live live shows I'll offer some opinions. I tend to be a little more casual on the live shows :)
Hey Rodney! I’m super curious: since your channel has a lot of tutorial videos on a vast variety of games, what percentage of your viewers are Subscribers?
Can you mix requirement filling Through bread and normal way... For example, for 2 x fish requirement could I pay 6bread and 2fish to fulfill three times?
Can you give me a time stamp to the section of the video you are asking about? I shot this long enough ago I don't recall what specific aspect of the game rules you are referring to.
Great Feld game! You should consider doing one for Bonfire as well ;) Side question: Does this edition have a "4" or "5" on the box? I think the new edition of Puerto Rico was supposed to be number 4 but apparently has some serious production issues. Just curious, thanks!
To confirm its number 5. Las Vegas Royale is 1 Castles of Burgundy is 2 Castles of Tuscany is 3 Puerto Rico was 4, Puerto Rico 1897 is now 4 (yes there are now 2 different versions of 1 game, both numbered 4) Carpe Diem is 5 Council of Shadows is 6
Dang this game seems cool, but my game group is too big for 4-player games. I don't suppose there are any expansions or alternate versions that can support more players? Either way, very good video.
Not that I know of. I know in some larger game groups, players will agree to split into smaller groups temporarily to enjoy games that don't have higher player counts. Not all groups want to do this, but maybe a possibility?
Hey Rodney , I was looking to buy an engaging and exciting game and I have Carpe Diem , Power Grid and Concordia as my options. Do u have a recommendation ? thanks in advance
Hey, thanks for the interest. I tend to avoid giving personalized recommendations. What I like, someone else might not - but hopefully you see a few games on here that might be what you are looking for!
A very quick question - are there any other rule changes apart from not being able to change direction when you move in the blueprint board? To clarify, in the first two prints, you can go back to the spot where you started if the first place you move to is empty, regardless where you move through a star pattern (first print) or to adjacent spaces (second print). I didn't notice anything else, but there may be some small things I have missed. For instance, is there a change in the forum cards that you have noticed? Thanks in advance. Other than that, art has indeed improved visibly. I have the second print and I personally don't find it that problematic, but this one certainly looks better. I do agree with other posters that it is a pity it took them three prints to work out all these issues. I consider this a gateway game, a Castles of Burgundy light of sorts, and I have seen much more willingness from family members to play it, compared to heavier euros, so a better art increases appeal.
Hey Zhivko, I never played the original, so I can't easily confirm this for you. What I share here is the complete rules for the new edition, so hopefully that helps you find any changes from what you know from previous editions.
This was actually changed with the second edition. The designer commented on BGG that without the star pattern, the concept of "bouncing" back would be hard to explain to players.
@@PandaOfElastic Then it is my mistake, I have obviously not read the rules carefully enough - thanks for correcting me. I don't see this concept hard to explain, but I suppose people new to the hobby would find it difficult to grasp. Besides, it does keep bread value toward the end of each round, as you may still need it to hop around at will. Also, thanks a lot Rodney for replying so fast. I had the wrong memory that you were part of BGG's GameNight episode when they showcased Carpe Diem, but it turned out it was Jackie. I thought it was you because you were the one to teach Castles of Burgundy, another Stefan Feld game, an episode I enjoyed a lot. I must say, you are sorely missed on GameNight, I wish you that you can be able visit the guys in LA sooner rather than later :)
@@zhivik I agree. I don't think it's a hard concept to grasp either. I also like the idea of indirectly increasing the usefulness of using bread to move. So either ruleset works for me.
Looks great but I don't know if I like the change in moving patrician. I liked the diagonal move mechanism. I guess it isn't that different, you still get 2 options, just not directly beside.
I really don't understand why Stefan Feld changed the movement mechanic in this edition, I really prefer the original one, following the lines. Anyway, this is game is great and very fun. I recommend to buy it to everyone.
